Schagen - Cozy provincial town with many events
This little town is situated in the middle of an attractive area, only about 60 kilometers from Amsterdam.
We show you the colorful bulb fields in spring and the attractive coastal villages with beautiful white sand beaches in the area near Schagen.
Along the city runs another attraction: ‘De Westfriese Omringdijk’ which means something like ‘The Westfriesian Surrounding Dike’.
This historic dike winds through the beautiful landscape of Noord-Holland with breathtaking views.
Near Schagen is an 18 holes golf course.
Schagen’s Market Square with its beautiful large church is surrounded with terraces, restaurants and bars.
There are a few shopping streets and the city also has an indoor shopping centre. Schagen once had a castle. The remaining towers were recently renovated. Opposite, on the corner of the Market square houses the cultural centre, named ‘Markt 18’.
Schagen organizes many events.
Very famous in the region is the Paasvee Exhibition. It starts in the morning with a traditional cattle market.It is an exhibition of a special breed of cow. Watch the party in the afternoon when youth takes over the market square till late in the evening. From across the region and beyond people come to Schagen for this event.
Every Thursday in summer you can enjoy the ‘Westfriese Folklore’. An event with music, dancing, singing and a parade of antique carriages and people in traditional costumes.

During summer there are music and culinairy events around the Market square.
For example Paasvee (Eastern Cattle), Noordzee op het Noord, Popweekend and many more.

Amsterdam - Part 2 - Holland Holiday
Amsterdam, You will fall in love with it!
In Part 1 we ended at the lively Museumplein. But Amsterdam has more interesting squares. Like the Leidseplein with the City Theatre and a big cinema. In addition, the Americain Hotel and Cafe where artists and intellectuals come together.
Nearby other attractive places like a casino, the Hard Rock Cafe and poptemple Paradiso.
The Rembrandtsplein, is named after our most famous painter. His statue is in the middle. The statues around him are figures from his most famous painting, the Nachtwacht.
Walk of Rembrandt Square towards the Munttoren. You will come along this famous cinema, Tuschinsky. Completely build in Art Deco style.
When you have reached the Munttoren, shopping street the Kalverstraat is on your right side. Enter the flowermarket on the left side.
An old flea market is at the foot of a characteristic church on the waterlooplein. We’ll come along Amsterdam's town hall. It also houses a theatre.
We are taking a look inside the house where Rembrandt lived and worked.
Another nice square is the Nieuwmarkt. In the middle the monumentual weigh house, surrounded with other historic buildings and cosy terraces.
Alongside Belgium and the Scandinavian countries the Netherlands is the most gay-friendly country in Europe. Every year Amsterdam organizes the Canal Pride. It is a huge celebration of devotion towards equality for the gay, lesbian, and transgender.
Another big party is Kingsday. It is one of the largest open-air festivities in the city. From all over the country people come to Amsterdam for second-hand shopping on the streets. Hundreds of small boats sail along the canals and the beer flows freely.
Amsterdam is also famous for its many coffe shops where you can buy cannabis and marijuana, but beware, there are strict rules. And they change occasionally.

What is the difference between Holland and The Netherlands and between Dutch and Deutsch?
All over the world our country is wellknown as Holland.
In fact this is not correct.
We show you the map of The Netherlands. Two provinces in the west are called Holland, divided in North and South Holland. But our country has more provinces. A total of twelve. Al together they are called ‘The Netherlands’. So the official name is The Netherlands.
It means The Low Countries. The name refers to the fact that half our country is below sea level.
Even more confusing is the fact that the people in The Netherlands are called ‘The Dutch’. When a foreigner asks for our nationality we have to answer ‘Dutch’. Generally the reaction is: ah ‘Deutsch’.
No Dutch, from Holland we make clear.
When you are Deutsch you are a German.
When you are Dutch you are from The Netherlands (or Holland if you like).

Going Off The Grid, Living In A Camper Van: Alone In The Woods & Belgian STONEHENGE!
We have visited the mystic Dolmen in Wéris, Belgium, it is truly like being at Stonehenge!
In the first part of the week we were mainly in the Netherlands, our homeland and now we are in Belgium, nearby Durbuy.
A couple of weeks earlier we were testing out our classic Hymer S580 nearby Schagen, in Zijdewind. We went there with Luz' parents and had cosy moments and visited Vlindorado, a butterfly garden. And we met up with family and friends, like Anthony’s sister and her husband, his friend and his daughter and her boyfriend, and my parents.
In the first week we gave ourself the time to get used to the camper van and figure everything out. We hadn't packed a lot of stuff properly so we set up the van during these days and gave everything a place and to settle a bit. Also it was a time to test out our solar panel setup. When we were alone in the woods and off grid we discovered that the hot water boiler was not working. So no hot shower, but a little splash with boiled water and a cold shower at the end.

Mercado de San Miguel Рынок Сан Мигель Мадрид Испания
Рынок Сан-Мигель (Mercado de San Miguel) – не самый большой, но довольно интересный – самый оригинальный рынок Мадрида. Его построили в 1914-15 гг. Это единственный рынок начала прошлого века, построенный из металлических ажурных конструкций (каркас рынка изготовлен из чугуна). Двухуровневые ларьки внутри помещения украшены керамикой. Зимой здесь горят газовые фонари. Недавно здание отреставрировали по инициативе испанских инвесторов; старые прилавки переоборудовали в тапас-бары.
