Featuring author and cultural sociologist Sarah Thornton and artist Kerry James Marshall. More panelists forthcoming.

Renowned author and cultural sociologist, Sarah Thornton, will interview Chicago-based artist Kerry James Marshall to align with the closing of his retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (April 23 – September 25, 2016). Considered one of America’s greatest living painters, Marshall explores African American identity in American history and Western art historical movements—from the Renaissance through twentieth century abstraction—in his signature large-scale interiors, landscapes and portraits. Kerry James Marshall: Mastry, a survey of his paintings from the last 35 years, will soon travel to The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Collector Talk | Changing Times, Changing Collections

Our times have been defined by radical political shifts. They influence most of our society’s sectors, from technology to culture, and also have an impact on the economic situation, which has affected the buying behavior of institutions and collectors. So what factors are patrons and museums currently taking into account when they decide to support a new artist, and how are collections responding to political change? Have high-level art advisors witnessed a significant change in the choices their customers are making? And what role are new artistic and curatorial voices playing in the shaping of collecting institutions?

This video is about Kerry James Marshall Kerry James Marshall,
Manages to create an indispensable presence in the none negotiable, or undeniable art narrative. Kerry James Marshall navigates Art School guidelines and art institutions. Breaking all the rules and forcing them to look.
What you're trying to create is a certain kind of an indispensable presence, Marshall says. Where your position in the narrative is not contingent on whether somebody likes you, or somebody knows you, or somebody's a friend, or somebody's being generous to you. But you want a presence in the narrative that's not negotiable, that's undeniable.

Tales From The Trails and The Royal: 2023

On Friday November 10th, over 400 lucky fans joined us for an intimate hour of heartwarming stories and acoustic melodies in The Royal’s Animal Theatre with some of their favourite members of the cast of CBC’s Heartland.

In this special show, Amber Marshall (Amy Fleming), Shaun Johnston (Grandpa Jack), Kerry James (Caleb Odell) and Graham Wardle (Ty Borden) gave us an inside look at their friendship and tales from over 17 years of working together.

A special thank you goes out to Shaun Johnston for providing his beautiful acoustic music and convincing Amber to join in on a little duet. We are so grateful to the entire cast, staff at The Animal Theatre and host Katie Brown... it was an unforgettable afternoon ♥️ We hope you all enjoy this recap and look forward to bringing this event back for #RAWF102.

KING23 AMBIENT VLOG - #0011 : FALL IN CHICAGO. ADVENTURES ON THE CTA. FIREHOUSE DREAMS.

I went to the MCA to see the Kerry James Marshall paintings. These paintings were so great!

Take a trip on the CTA Brown Line! Some day these automobiles will look old (Stephen Shore called cars in photos time bombs). They'll probably tear all these buildings down, eventually.

Anyway, I was here, on 25 September 2016. I had a phone. Here's what part of the space / time looked like.

Thank you,
Mr. King
