Disabled Persons Railcard Explained

The Disabled Persons Railcard is a discount card that allows those living with disabilities and their travel companion to save 1/3 on their rail travel.

The Disabled Persons Railcard costs just £20 for one year and £54 for three years. You can even link your Disabled Persons Railcard with an Oyster Card to get 1/3 off travel around London.

► LEARN MORE about the Disabled Persons Railcard:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you’re a disabled person, or you care for someone who is, you’ll be pleased to know that you could get 1/3 off train tickets for up to three years with a Disabled Persons Railcard and it’s perfect for People with any or all of these disabilities:

• Have a visual or hearing impairment
• Have epilepsy
• Receive either PIP (Personal Independence Payments) or DLA (Disability Living Allowance).

You’re also eligible if you receive:

• Attendance Allowance
• Severe Disablement Allowance
• War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement
• War or Service Disablement Pension (disability of 80% or more)
• or if you use a vehicle through the Motability scheme.

Before we start, it’s important to remember there are quite a few different Railcards to choose from. Click on our general video to learn about them all or stick around to see what the Disabled Persons Railcard is all about.

Now we don’t yet sell the Disabled Persons Railcard but we are working on it.
It currently costs £20 for the year, or a bargainous £54 for three years. So, if you take the train a lot, this Railcard will pay itself off in no time whatsoever.

Paisley. Port Talbot. Plymouth and beyond. You can go pretty much anywhere across the UK rail network for less with a Disabled Persons Railcard. If you’re off to London, or you live there, link your Disabled Persons Railcard with an Oyster Card. That way, you can get 1/3 off Anytime Day Travelcards when thye’re bought as part of your journey to London from outside London Zones 1-9, subject to a minimum fare which right now is £19.60.

A Disabled Persons Railcard can be used at any time of day to buy discounted train tickets. The only thing it isn’t valid for is use on Season Tickets.

If you’re travelling with an adult family member, carer or friend, both of you can get the discount, but it’s only for the two of you at any one given time, so you’ll need to travel together.
Right now, you can only apply for the Disabled Persons Railcard online. If you’re renewing it though, you can do it online, over the phone or by post.

We don’t yet sell the Disabled Persons Railcard but we are working on it. In the meantime, to buy a Disabled Persons Railcard you can still apply online at
Now you can sit back, relax and pull a smug grin frankly, knowing you’re going to be buying discounted train tickets for at least a year. So, where to next?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trainline is the leading independent rail and coach travel platform, and we're selling rail and coach tickets to millions of people worldwide.

With our website and app, people can seamlessly search, book and manage their journeys all in one place – nifty!
