Zagreb (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Zagreb is the political and cultural heart of Croatia, an amiable capital city located at the intersection of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe and a city that holds many memories of the Danube Monarchy. Zagreb originated in the Middle Ages from two rival settlements on neighbouring hills, the bishop's seat of Kaptol which is dominated by its cathedral and the free city of Gradec which was its political centre. They both formed the city’s Upper Town. The cathedral dominates the Kaptol district, its two steeples towering above the old city. The city’s marvellous Botanical Garden contains an array of wonderful natural sights. It boasts ten thousand tree and plant varieties including alpine, Mediterranean, and the exotic. Small ponds with water plants are also included in the four point seven hectare gardens. An imposing arcaded facade forms the entrance to the Mirogoj Cemetery which is laid out as a park and is an artistic masterpiece. Here, leading sculptors built tombs for the country’s most famous personalities from the arts, culture and politics, including the grave of Franjo Tudjman. A narrow mountain road leads up to the Medvednica Nature Park, outside the city gates. The mediaeval Medvedgrad Fortress is a most striking and interesting attraction located in twenty three thousand hectares of natural landscape. Zagreb is a special city, unique, with a never-ending story, a city that has witnessed a thousand years and, due to its historic values, has become a European Capital Of Culture.

Zagreb, Croatia’s northwestern capital, is distinguished by its 18th- and 19th-century Austro-Hungarian architecture. At its center, Upper Town is the site of the Gothic, twin-spired Zagreb Cathedral and 13th-century St. Mark’s Church, with a colorfully tiled roof. Nearby is pedestrian-friendly Tkalčićeva Street, lined with outdoor cafes. Lower Town has the main square, Ban Jelačić, plus shops, museums and parks.
Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia, is a country at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe on the Adriatic Sea.

10 Things to do in Zagreb, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Our travels in Croatia brought us to Zagreb known for its lively street markets, vast green spaces, and varied architecture that spans numerous movements, we reached the capital and hit the ground running. In this video we’re going to show you some fun things to do in Zagreb, as well as share our favourite place for sampling the most delicious truffle dishes:
From the main square you have the Flower Market, and if you head up the steps, that leads to Zagreb’s Central Market.
Zagreb Cathedral is one the city’s main landmarks. This is the largest sacral building in the Gothic style southeast of the Alps, and it’s pretty easy to spot the spires wherever you are in the city.
Our walk through the Upper Town eventually lead us to Tkalčićeva. These days you’ll find a lively street lined with restaurants, cafes and bars.
We reached what may be the most memorable museum in the whole world: The Museum of Broken Relationships. The museum is a global crowd-sourced project that deals with heartbreak. Inside you’ll find curious objects with a corresponding story.
St. Mark’s Church bears the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left-hand side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right.
To enjoy city views of the Lower Town there are some great vantage points along the promenade.
On our way down from the Upper Town, we walked through Zagreb’s famed Stone Gate. Once the eastern gate into the medieval settlement now houses a small chapel.
Let’s take a break from all the sightseeing to introduce you to one of our favourite restaurants in Zagreb when it comes to truffle dishes
And craving more views of the city, we then went up Zagreb 360.
Known as the Green Horseshoe, this park was named after Milan Lenuci who came up with the idea of creating connected green spaces right in the downtown. The horseshoe is home to several museums, galleries and archives.
If you’re into hockey and you visit Zagreb during the season, you can catch a game in the city. We watched Medveščak Zagreb play.

The Kaptol district has been its Catholic heart since the Middle Ages. An atmospheric place, Upper Town is a gem Zagreb’s historic past. North of Zagreb on the western border with Slovenia, the picture-perfect Veliki Tabor Castle rises on a hill, its Renaissance courtyard with columns and arcades possessing a touch of southern elegance. Kumrovec, birthplace of the former President of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, is located south of the castle and is now a museum village. The historic centre of Rovinj is located on a shell-shaped peninsula, further south on the Adriatic coast. Seen from the sea it is one of the most stunning of the Adriatic’s harbour cities. Situated close to the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula is Pula, the oldest city on Croatia‘s eastern Adriatic coast. The largest square of the Old Town, and today‘s main square, was originally located on the site of a Roman forum. The historical centre of Split is a cultural work of art, its palace, sea aspect and bay a harmonious blend of both ancient and mediaeval times. Dubrovnik‘s historic centre possesses many treasures such as the Onofri Fountain, the Saint Spas Chapel and the Franciscan Church. Due to its magnificent location, unique Old Town and beautiful buildings, Dubrovnik has become tantamount to an amazing work of art. Croatia is a country of timeless Mediterranean beauty, a place in the sun where history reflects in the Adriatic and Occident meets Orient - a Balkan paradise!

Within the southernmost archipelago of Dalmatia is one of the most fascinating harbour cities of the young republic of Croatia, Dubrovnik, a breathtaking Mediterranean city with a great history. The city of stone had its heyday in the Middle Ages and was one of the most important economic and cultural centres in the Mediterranean. An ancient courtyard gate leads to the Old Town and to Luža Square, the city’s main square that contains a fine clock tower and splendid palace Loggia. The sixteenth century Sponza Palace consists of a combination of designs, including both Gothic and Renaissance, and once contained the Customs House and Mint. Despite much foreign rule, the city largely succeeded in being autonomous. Velika Gospa Cathedral was built between 1672 and 1713 on the ruins of a Romanesque basilica. According to legend, Richard The Lionheart was shipwrecked in the city on his return from the Third Crusade and his financial donation made it possible to build the city’s first church. From the thirteenth century the city was fortified with powerful walls that now rank among the largest, and also the most beautiful, in the whole of Europe. Dubrovnik is, amazingly, still a storybook city with all the flair of the Middle Ages. A treasure trove of history and undisputed Pearl Of The Adriatic.
