Zimbabwe Here I come.
*I dedicate this episode to my Dad.
In the first part of this episode, I travel with Bruce from @OverlandingwithBruce to camp for 2 nights on the Old Hunters road, in Botswana. This has always been an adventure I've wanted to do, and serves as a great reccie, for the second part of this series, where I travel the Old Hunters Road Solo. From Hunters Road to Hwange, I overland travel to the Northern part of Hwange, where I visit the newly built lodge, Chakabika.
This turns out to be a great adventure, in the newly upgraded and kitted Ford Ranger 2.2 XL. It's come a long way, and whilst excited to travel this route, I am nervous. Will the additions work, and what lays ahead? Enjoy the episode legends.

ROAD TRIP ZIMBABWE: Travel Guide by 4x4 Camper for History, Culture and SAFARI
Welcome to Zimbabwe! This country has great nature, lots of wild animals, but also a lot of history and interesting cultural sights. We drive through the country from Botswana to see ancient rock paintings, rock formations, beautiful mountain landscape and many safari animals. We stay in the town of Bulawayo, experience the Zimbabwean culture and drive down south through Matobo National Park.
In the previous episodes you saw how we started this road trip in Cape Town South-Africa. From there we drove the Cape Namibia Route along the West Coast to look for animals in the Kalahari Desert. After that we crossed the border into Namibia, where we drove straight through the world's highest sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. We saw all the sights in Namibia and wend on a safari in Etosha National Park. After that we drove to Botswana and found ourselves stuck in bad weather. Luckily we got towed out of the mud, to continue the road trip among wild animals everywhere. Now we visit Zimbabwe and head on to the Kruger National Park, to finally deliver the camper in Johannesburg South-Africa again.
Our journey through Africa is part of a one and a half year trip around the world. We can even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Zanzibar & Tanzania, South-Africa, Namibia and Botswana, Zimbabwe is already destination number 25 on the big trip. We have also been away from home for over a year now. Follow us on this world tour, first in Zimbabwe and then to many more beautiful destinations in Africa! I Just Became A Trillionaire In Zimbabwe (#176)
Maybe you've heard about inflation in Argentina or Venezuela, or 1920s Germany if you're old school. Yeah, those countries had a crazy situation, but none of them come close to Zimbabwe, a country that really puts the hyper in hyperinflation. The largest bill they ever printed, which is also the largest in history, was 100 trillion dollars, which at it's peak was worth $0.80. Nowadays it goes for much more as a collector's item.
This was all I had ever heard about Zimbabwe. But that was more the result of one man's poor economic policies. What were the people of Zimbabwe like? What does the country look like in 2024? How is the food and matakos? Due to the turbulent history the country had with race, I was a little nervous flying in. But there was only one way to find out..

????????GANGO: In a wok, add ox kidney and beef then water and salt. In a separate bowl, clean chicken gizzards then chop. Add to the wok. Allow it to cook for 10 minutes.
Separately, Cut chicken parts and add to the wok. Add water. Stir and allow to cook. Add heart, pork belly and spicy pork sausage. Add cooking oil. Add onions and tomatoes and mix. Add rape, kovo and chilies. Serve with sadza.

???????? FRIED CHICKEN INNARDS: In a pot, add gizzards, water, and salt. Boil. Add intestines and fry. Add liver and continue frying.
???????? PIG HEAD: In a pot add beans, peanuts and Mutakura. Add pig head, beans, onion, garlic, tomato and green peppers. Place ground Kapenta and mopane worms into a powder then mix it with spice, aromatics (curry powder, ginger, garlic) then turn into a paste. Allow it to cook. Place the pig heads on a tray and pour beans and sauce over them.

Welcome to Zimbabwe! It's time to continue my journey through another country and I'm very excited because I have never been to Zimbabwe before. Well, I was in Hwange and Vic Falls before, but that was not long enough. I will show you how crossing the border at Beitbridge is, a long and arduous procedure. From there I drove through the Nuanentsi Game Ranche on my way to Gonarezhou. But taking the fastest road is not in my style book and I took a few detours first. On one of them I went all the way to the Limpopo River, following a road that was more a warthog trail than a proper road, I met a group of people who live by the river, and chances are they were doing something illegal there. Getting to Gonarezhou from that area proved not to be easy and I even ended up in a different country. My journey through Zimbabwe does not disappoint me, at all.
