Want an adventure to lead to another? If you’re into great sceneries, culture, and history the city of Santa Fe might just be for you. At 7,000 feet above sea level and being the oldest capital in the United States, this city would surely be an exciting escape from the metro.

Here are 10 Things To Do in Santa Fe

#10 Enjoy a stroll at Canyon Road

Take time to explore this historic site. Canyon Road is Santa Fe’s historic arts district. Home to over 80 art galleries, as well as boutiques, restaurants, and historic adobe homes, it is the cultural central district of Santa Fe. Check out Canyon Road’s vibrant Friday night art openings, an enduring tradition. It would be an art lover’s dream and even if art is not your cup of tea there is something for everyone here.

#9 Discover the Santa Fe Opera House

The world-renowned Santa Fe Opera House sure lives up to its name. Its stunning architecture that includes an open-air design would surely be an experience. The beautiful outdoor venue offers music festivals between July and August. It is recommended to book your tours ahead of time to secure your spot.

#8 Tour the historic site of Santa Fe Plaza

Bordered by San Francisco Street and Washington, Palace, and Lincoln avenues. The heart of downtown Santa Fe for nearly 400 years, the Plaza remains the central part of the city, hosting Indian and Spanish markets and other annual events as well as community gatherings, concerts and more.

#7 Love the thrill at Ski Santa Fe

New Mexico’s Rocky Mountains offer the best skiing in the southwest, whether you're a thrill-seeking skier or a novice snowboarder. Located 16 miles from downtown, Ski Santa Fe offers 83 trails for skiers and snowboarders, with 1,725 feet of skiing. When you need to fuel up, La Casa Lodge offers a food court with grill items, pizza pasta, and other family favorites, you can also chill out on the mountain at Totemoff’s Bar, where you can grab a burger and catch live music in the outdoor deck on Saturdays.

#6 Get into the beer scene at Santa Fe Breweries

For a small town, we have some great beer in Santa Fe. The business started more than 30 years ago. Today that brewery is New Mexico’s largest, producing delicious brews like 7k IPA Java Stout and a whole host of other tasty brews.

#5 Explore nature at Santa Fe National Forest

Hiking trails leading into a spectacular wilderness area, you can explore to your heart’s content. The scenic Santa Fe National Forest, sprawls across a staggering 1.6 Million acres, containing the headwaters of three rivers as well as lakes and streams offering terrific trout fishing. During the summer you can ride the Rio Grande on a whitewater rafting trip and fall is beautiful too, as golden aspens shimmer in the sunlight.

#4 Unwind at Buffalo Thunder

You don’t have to go to Vegas to find high-stakes thrills. A 15-mile drive north of the Santa FE Plaza to Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino, a world-class resort set on 587 stunning acres. The Pueblo-inspired architecture houses a 61,000 square foot casino with 1,200 slot machines, 18 game tables and a poker room. The resort’s restaurant showcase the flavors of the Southwest and the elegant hotel rooms and suites feature Native American Decor.

#3 Immerse in the art at The Ghost Ranch

Steeped in history, Ghost ranch today serves as an educational and retreat center for the Presbyterian Church but its grounds were once wetlands, roamed by dinosaurs. The striking rock formations and landscape were formed over millennia by water and wind. Georgia O'Keeffe was a famous guest at the ranch before 1955, when Ghost Ranch owner Arthur Pack gave the property to the Presbyterian Church. The center offers a wide range of creative workshops on the arts, spirituality, social justice and more. Day visitors can explore Ghost ranch on tours, hiking trails, and horseback rides and visit museums.

#2 Jam at the Santa Fe Bandstand

Bringing diverse music to the historic Santa Fe Plaza each summer since 2003, Santa Fe Bandstand is where the community gathers to shamelessly shake their collective groove thang. Both local and national bands of a diversity of genres play here. Get there early with folding chairs in hand to claim your prime spot.

#1 Admire the beauty of Loretto Chapel

One of the architectural jewels of Santa Fe is the Loretto Chapel, located just south of the Santa Fe Plaza. According to the legend, a mysterious man came to the unfinished chapel after the Sisters of Loretto prayed for nine days for help to complete the project. Behind closed doors, the man built the Miraculous Staircase with only simple tools, then disappeared before the sisters could pay or even thank him. Regardless of the origin, the chapel and its staircase are beautiful.
