After a wonderful drive with a hitchhiker, I am back with Guy as we explore the beautiful city of Yamoussoukro. In this video, we're going to take a look at Yamoussoukro, a small town in the north of Ivory Coast. We'll explore the village and have my first impressions of it.

Yamoussoukro is the capital city of Côte d'Ivoire, in West Africa. It's inland, northwest of the country’s economic and cultural hub, the coastal city of Abidjan. It's known for the enormous Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro, with its stained-glass windows and towering dome. The city is the birthplace of 20th-century president Félix Houphouët-Boigny, whose former palace has a crocodile-filled lagoon.

Yamoussoukro is the de jure capital of Ivory Coast and an autonomous district. #Yamoussoukro is the fifth most populous city in #IvoryCoast. Located 240 kilometers (150 mi) north-west of Abidjan, Yamoussoukro covers 3,500 square kilometers (1,400 sq mi) among rolling hills and plains.Yamoussoukro became the legal capital of the Ivory Coast in 1983, although the former capital Abidjan retains several political functions. Prior to 2011, what is now the district of Yamoussoukro was part of Lacs Region.

IVORY COAST: Man to Yamoussoukro to Abidjan. ONLY PROBLEMS! // EPS 14
Overland traveling is always full of surprises - good ones, and bad ones. Mostly it’s about exploring foreign countries and cultures - but sometimes the challenges you meet on the road need nearly all your attention. Here is what happened in Côte D’Ivoire:
My travel partner had the worst crash of the journey so far: A local motorcyclist crossed his way and he fell when breaking - his side pannier crashing on his ankle. He was stuck under his motorcycle until I lifted it up. The next days we were trying to rush to Abidjan as fast as possible to get him to a proper hospital because his ankle was swollen on twice the size. From the city Man we drove to the capital of Ivory Coast: Yamoussoukro. After a short visit of Notre Dame de Yamoussoukro we continued to Abidjan - where my travel partner decided that he is fine again and doesn't need to get to the hospital anymore. But another challenge was waiting for us: The tires we had sent from Europe were lost by DHL and we had to find new rear tires for our big motorcycles in Abidjan. Watch the episode to find out if we managed and join some sighseeing to St. Paul's cathedral and a rubber tree plantation!

Yamoussoukro | The city with biggest Church In the World. #ivorycoast #
The abandoned capital has the Ivorians calls it, is the governmental district of the country.. it was where most of there political revolution started from and the home to their first ever president and freedom fight felix
The city might not be as bubbling and busy as Abidjan which is the Business capital but Yamoussoukro is a diamond in a rust..
With the presence of the largest world Church in the world, right in the capital center, it sure does command a lot of attention from tourist all over the world to the so called “Abandoned”..
Business activities might not be booming at such but the peace & tranquility would make you appreciate the simple and priceless of things of life.
The Basilica of our lady of peace , Yamoussoukro, Côte D’Ivoire.
Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro Basilica is located in Yamoussoukro, which since March 1983 been the capital of Côte d’Ivoire (the Ivory Coast). It is the largest Christian church in the world, according to Guinness World Records. The basilica is not to be confused with a cathedral, which is the principal place of worship and where the ruling bishop is seated. It was constructed between 1985 and 1989 and is locally known by its French name, Basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix.

Ivory Coast Has The BEST Road Transport System In West Africa? Cote d'Ivoire #Africa Ep.14
One of the things that stands out about #Ivorycoast / #cotedivoire is the road transport infrastructure. Some publications have ranked it no 4 in Africa after Namibia, South Africa and Rwanda.
I enjoyed my road trip from the political capital #Yamoussoukro to the commercial capital #Abidjan. It is one of the country's 4 laned highway covering 224km from Abidjan to Yamoussoukro. It is built with modern technologies and under international standards of security.
Ivory Coast invested remarkably in its transport system. Transport Infrastructures are much more developed than they are other West African countries despite a crisis that restrained their maintenance and development.
Since its independence in 1960, Ivory Coast put an emphasis on increasing and modernizing the transport network for human as well as for goods. Major infrastructures of diverse nature were built including railways, roads, waterways, and airports. In spite of the crisis, neighbor countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Guinea) still strongly depend on the Ivorian transport network for importing, exporting, and transiting their immigrants to Ivory Coast.

In November-December 2023, Colonel Anand Swaroop and I embarked on a month-long expedition - THE GREAT WEST AFRICA SAFARI - to 11 countries of West Africa.

Yamoussoukro is the capital city of Côte d'Ivoire, in West Africa. It's inland, northwest of the country’s economic and cultural hub, the coastal city of Abidjan.
It's known for the enormous Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro, with its stained-glass windows and towering dome. The city is the birthplace of 20th-century president Félix Houphouët-Boigny, whose former palace has a crocodile-filled lagoon.

We visited The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace Catholic church dedicated to Our Lady of Peace in Yamoussoukro, the administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).
Guinness World Records lists it as the largest church in the world, having surpassed the previous record holder, Saint Peter's Basilica, upon completion.
