Sailing Lagoon LIFE EP78

Sailing LAID Back Lagoon LIFE in the Marshall Islands
LAID Back Lagoon LIFE- Ailuk atoll, Marshall Islands
Ailuk atoll, Marshall Islands
This week, we start our lagoon life at Ailuk atoll!
We were given permission to travel to Ailuk Atoll to deliver essential food suppliers on behalf of Mayor Typhoon, so along with Mark and Angie, the crew from our buddy boat 'Uno Mas' , we waste no time in dropping off lots of flour, rice, sugar, coffee and spices, before sharing a drinking coconut and morning tea with locals ,Pumpkin and Emily

We spend time diving within the lagoon where we sadly discover the much of the coral has been badly damaged and bleached, but we do see a couple of schools of fish and have a really relaxed swim-by from an eagle ray,
We also enjoy a beach picnic and sundowners with the crews from 'Forever' and 'Offshore Haven'.

Footage from June 2020

Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel!
Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world.

Bikini Atoll, The Marshall Islands

Lost somewhere in the ocean, this island looks like a paradise, doesn’t it? But Bikini Atoll was actually home to numerous nuclear testing programs that turned the picturesque island of Bikini into a radioactive wasteland. The inhabitants were forced to abandon their homes, and even today this remains hazardous for living organisms: the abnormally high level of radiation recorded here can cause cancer.

Between 1946 and 1958, 23 nuclear devices were detonated by the United States at seven test sites located on the reef, inside the atoll, in the air, or underwater.

In 1996, the Bikini Council authorized diving operations as a means to generate income for Bikini islanders currently and upon their eventual return. The tours, limited to fewer than a dozen experienced divers a week, cost more than US$5000 and include detailed histories of the nuclear tests.

Sailing in Majuro Atoll - Marshall Islands - Ep #50

I touch land for the first time in 22 days on Majuro Atoll, after sailing from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands. I fracture my heal and then watch as my boom separates from my mast at the gooseneck.

Let's Go To Arno! (v#5)

Iokwe aolep!

This is a short video showing my two trips to Arno Atoll from Christmas 2016 and spring break 2019. Special thanks to my good friend, Pin, for allowing me to come and visit her beautiful island. If you ever get a chance to come to the Marshall Islands, be sure to hop on a boat and take a trip out to Arno Atoll. The island is absolutely beautiful, and the people are so friendly.

The music in the video is titled: Komol Iroij Kon Aelon in Ao. It is my first Marshallese song. I wrote the English version, and my good friends Elvi, Xyrus and Lyle translated it, and Lyle sang it.

Thanks for checking out the video!

Fishing in Majuro Lagoon

Iokwe!

This past month I headed out to Majuro lagoon to go fishing along with my church, Majuro Independent Baptist (aka 'Rita Baptist'), to compete against Rairok Baptist to see who can bring in the highest weight of fish. We had a good catch that day, so it's worth making a video over. ;)

Alone at Sea from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands - Bird on board - Part 5 - Ep #47

I'm sailing solo from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands in a 1968 Alberg 30. A bird visits and I finally go for a swim. Singlehanded sailing a small boat on the Pacific Ocean is awesome.
