The Lion Walk at Fathala Wildlife Reserve/Senegal: with THE DEE'S

First, every journey that we've taken has all been without the aide of a professional. I must say that we would do it all exactly the same way again. This has been one of our most breathtaking moments to date! Yessssss we were nervous but, we had fun!! I was extremely impressed with Senaga’s presence. Especially when she sneezed and my chest vibrated. On our return trip, we were supposed to visit Kunta Kinteh island on the way back but were exhausted and decided to do this on our return trip to The Gambia. But we did stop at off at a local market in Barra to try to find some spicy peppers… What an experience this was! This market was so busy that it was hard to take in everything, but we found some really HOT peppers and made some new experiences.

Lion Walk in Senegal - Fathala Wildlife Reserve (4K)

The Lion Walk in Senegal's Fathala Wildlife Reserve is a unique and unforgettable experience that offers visitors the rare opportunity to walk alongside majestic African lions in their natural habitat. Located in the heart of Senegal's diverse and beautiful landscape, the Fathala Wildlife Reserve is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including the magnificent lions that are the stars of this incredible adventure.

Under the watchful eye and guidance of experienced wildlife handlers, participants in the Lion Walk are provided with a comprehensive safety briefing before venturing into the reserve. The handlers ensure that both the lions and the visitors remain safe and comfortable throughout the experience.

During the walk, participants have the chance to observe these powerful and graceful creatures up close, learning about their behavior, social structure, and the important role they play in the African ecosystem. As you follow the lions through the reserve, you'll be immersed in the beauty of the surrounding savannah, where you might also spot other fascinating wildlife species, such as giraffes, antelopes, and various bird species.

Fathala Wildlife Reserve is located 6 km from the border of Senegal and Gambia, so it is convenient to combine visiting the park with moving between countries.
In Fathala Wildlife Reserve you can spend the night and take part in a safari, but I only had time to walk with the lions.
It is better to pay for interaction with lions with local money, participation costs 25,000 CFA francs (about 38 euros).

WHERE TO VISIT WHEN YOU COME TO SENEGAL.....( Fathala wildlife reserve)

In this video, I want to show you a Wildlife reserve in Senegal.

Senegal, country in western Africa. Located at the westernmost point of the continent and served by multiple air and maritime travel routes, Senegal is known as the “Gateway to Africa.” The country lies at an ecological boundary where semiarid grassland, oceanfront, and tropical rainforest converge; this diverse environment has endowed Senegal with a wide variety of plant and animal life. It is from this rich natural heritage that the country’s national symbols were chosen: the baobab tree and the lion.

The region today known as Senegal was long a part of the ancient Ghana and Djolof kingdoms and an important node on trans-Saharan caravan routes. It was also an early point of European contact and was contested by England, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands before ultimately coming under French control in the late 19th century. It remained a colony of France until 1960, when, under the leadership of the writer and statesman Léopold Senghor.

Although Senegal traditionally has been dependent on peanuts (groundnuts), the government has had some success with efforts to diversify the country’s economy. Even so, the country suffered an economic decline in the 20th century, owing in some measure to external forces such as the fall in value of the African Financial Community (Communauté Financière Africaine; CFA) franc and the high cost of debt servicing, as well as to internal factors such as a rapidly growing population and widespread unemployment.

Almost two-fifths of Senegal’s people are Wolof, members of a highly stratified society whose traditional structure includes a hereditary nobility and a class of musicians and storytellers called griots. Contemporary Senegalese culture, especially its music and other arts, draws largely on Wolof sources, but the influences of other Senegalese groups (among them the Fulani, the Serer, the Diola, and the Malinke) are also evident. Wolof predominate in matters of state and commerce as well, and this dominance has fueled ethnic tension over time as less-powerful groups vie for parity with the Wolof majority.

The most important city in Senegal is its capital, Dakar. This lively and attractive metropolis, located on Cape Verde Peninsula along the Atlantic shore, is a popular tourist destination. Although the government announced plans to eventually move the capital inland, Dakar will remain one of Africa’s most important harbours and an economic and cultural centre for West Africa as a whole.

Senegal is home to several internationally renowned musicians and artists. Other aspects of Senegalese culture have traveled into the larger world as well, most notably Senghor’s espousal of Negritude—a literary movement that flourished in the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s and that emphasized African values and heritage. Through events such as the World Festival of Negro Arts, first held in Senegal in 1966, and institutions such as the Fundamental Institute of Black Africa (Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire; IFAN) and the Gorée Island World Heritage site, Senegal honours Senghor’s dictum We must learn to absorb and influence others more than they absorb or influence us.

Walking With Lions In Africa. Dangerous Encounters at Fathala Wildlife Reserve in Senegal, Africa.

We decided to take a day out from our Gambian holiday, to tick off another West African country.

So we decided to go to Fathala in Senegal, West Africa. This is where we walked with and took some really cool photos of lions. There are only a few places in the world that still allow people to walk with Wild Cats, this is one of them and they are not sedated.

So we had a crazy idea of going to another unique place in the world where you can still walk with lions that are not drugged. This is our second time being with lions. The first time was in Mauritius with a white lion and a 2 year old cub. We went back to Casela in 2019 and after seeing the condition of some of the Animals, we decided not to walk with them.

This is part of a series of videos from Gambia and Senegal, with its amazing wildlife. Search our channel to see the vultures and what made our Gambian trip a bit of a disaster.

Senegal Fathala wildpark 野生動物園 อุทยานสัตว์ป่า

Fathala Wildpark in Senegal
During this trip you go 3 km across the northern border to the neighbouring country, Senegal. By a paved road and the ferry, Fathala is easy to reach.Within two hours you can go from Banjul to Fathala (provided that the ferry works). Fathala is a large wild animal reserve of about 2.000 hectares with original and protected African wilderness. Enjoy the lions, giraffes, antelopes, giant mahogany trees, high savanna grass and wild bush while you drive around by jeep in search of rhinos, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and many other animal species. In nature reserve Fathala you can walk with real lions. The presence of these majestic kings give you an unprecedented feeling of fear combined with deep admiration and emotion. Guaranteed, this is an unforgettable experience that you really should do during your Gambia vacation. Your walk with the lions at the African savannah is accompanied by specialised rangers of Fathala. You can do this safari in one day, provided you leave early and that the ferries are working. It stays Africa: always a surprise! It is also possible to stay overnight in the park. Discuss the possibilities with your guide from GambiaSafari.
Because you are heading to neighbouring Senegal you should not forget to bring your passport and vaccination booklet. The border formalities here are still a daily ritual that we already have forgotten in the EU.

Traveling to Fathala Wildlife Reserve/Senegal: with THE DEE'S

Our trip started at 5:30AM, but was interrupted when our driver was detained (40 minutes) on the Senegambian Strip (walking distance from the Kairaba) because he ran over a clearly visible orange .5 meters (1.5 feet) high traffic cone that was next to the police officer’s guard shack, continuing on to Banjul we noticed that his windshield-wipers were not working and it was dark & raining moderately, then we just missed the ferry to Barra and had to wait 45 minutes for the next ferry, but this was ok, it gave us a chance to eat breakfast and take in the scenery. From Barra we drove to the Senegal border where you have to deal with the immigration process of exiting The Gambia, to enter Senegal. We were lucky to have a guide that sped up the process by performing the exit (from The Gambia) process for us while we were in the Senegal entrance/depart line (we saved 30-40 minutes in each direction). Other than vendors trying to sell you their stuff it was a very smooth process

This is the second video from Fathala in Senegal, West Africa. The first was where we walked lions. Here we are on a jeep safari in the reserve where we see a White rhino, wild pigs and zebra's. The Rhino almost charges the jeep, which takes off leaving dangerous fumes from its exhaust.
