VIDEO: Megalodon Shark Talk With Darin Croft at CMNH

Another video exclusive.

Dr. Darin Croft may have one of the coolest jobs in the world.

He's a research associate at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and he's help prepare for their new exhibit Megalodon: Largest Shark That Ever Lived.

Listen to this interview as he talk about this fascinating and massive and prehistoric shark that lived for 15 million years and has been extinct for about 2 million years.

Have a look at their cool exhibit, with jaws of increasing size showing adolescent and mature shark jaws, and a huge display that allows visitors to actually walk inside this 60-foot long sculpture the size of Megalodon.

Also on display is Sharkabet! A Sea of Sharks from A to Z, an exhibition of fantastical but scientifically accurate paintings of sharks in action by artist Ray Troll.

100 Megalodon Teeth Found Near Charleston South Carolina

We have an epic megalodon tooth hunting spot near Charleston South Carolina. It has produced a plethora of fossils, including teeth from all kinds of extinct sharks, from the tiniest hound shark to the giant white shark Megalodon. We found fossilized remains of other marine creatures such as rays, fish, porpoise, dolphins, dugongs, and whales. There are ice age land mammal fossils here also. We have found horse, tapir, extinct elephants including mammoth, mastodon, and gomphotherium, and giant sloth. Diva called the spot Sloth Party because we found so many sloth teeth at the spot, and the variety of finds sure does make it seem like a party from back in the day. The sheer quantity of megalodon teeth has been what makes this spot so special, at least in the context of this video. When we first stepped foot into this place, I never could have imagined the treasures it contained. Early on though I realized that there were a bunch of meg teeth here so I started keeping count. Over the months of digging the count started climbing and today I hit number one hundred, and that doesn’t even include all the megs Diva found, which you can see on her @AncientAdventures channel. This video is a celebration of the march towards 100 meg teeth - watch as I recover each tooth from the ancient ocean floor, exposed by modern excavation. This is not the end, just a milestone. The count is going to climb higher as we continue to hunt this location of locations, the current leader in the race of my lifetime for the best megalodon tooth hunting spot ever.

Find out all the fun and fascinating facts about Megalodon by visiting the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman. They have an exhibit called “Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived.” There is so much interest in the Megalodon in recent years, that it’s created something the last few years called Megalomania! This is an interactive exhibit that will delight both adults and kids alike as you will walk away with an impressive amount of information!

The Best Megalodon Tooth Hunting Site I Ever Found

I don't throw around the word best especially when it comes to hunting megalodon teeth because there have been so many good spots during my 30+ years of collecting, but I feel confident in using it here. I can't believe how lucky I got finding this spot. It was completely untouched and the bottom of the dig was just at the top of the fossil bearing formation. That meant all I had to do was look down in some spots to find teeth, and in the rest, I only had to dig off a foot or two of overburden. There were bones everywhere which is the tell-tale indicator of megalodon and other fossil shark teeth. It didn't take long to dig one out, then another, and another. Then when I walked on the piles after heavy rain there were more big teeth. All together I was able to collect this site for about a week and I found 17 complete megalodon teeth in that short amount of time. I'm not planning on retiring anytime soon, but it is going to be very difficult to top this spot. Summerville, I love you!

Megalodon Shark Tooth Diving in Florida at Venice Beach

Its that time again! Fossil Diva, da fossz, and I headed south to sunny Florida from equally sunny South Carolina for some megalodon shark tooth diving in water where we could actually see further than a few inches. We've never gone this late in the year before so we didn't know what to expect but were gladly surprised that we were able to fossil dive every day and that none of our planned dives were cancelled. As far as megalodon teeth go, this was my best trip ever with several really nice specimens. Diva was next to me on almost every dive and she did pretty good too and found some ocean megalodons to satisfy her goals. Now that we're back, and the video is done I already wish we were back down there! We LOVE Florida! Thanks Captain Jamie and the Aristakat crew for having us onboard for the week. See y'all next year!

What Were Ancient Builders Fortifying Against? | How the Pre-Cataclysm World Was Strangely Different

When people imagine what the Earth was like in the distant past, they generally think about megalithic stone structures and the artifacts that have been uncovered. However, these creations of ancient civilizations existed in a world that was far different than the world we are familiar with. In order to comprehend why builders made their structures so large and well-fortified, it is necessary to understand the types of lifeforms that once existed, which ancient people would have needed to contend with and fortify against. Moreover, so that we can understand why the diverse range of megafauna that once existed are now gone, researchers such as ourselves need to study how the Earth's atmosphere was drastically different in the distant past, and what unusual events occurred to cause these ancient species (and the lost societies that built such impressive stone buildings) to suddenly go extinct.

Megalodon Quartet

Some days hunting for shark teeth are better than others and today was at the upper end of the quality scale. Finding one megalodon tooth is a good day, no matter how big the tooth is. I bagged a quartet in this video - 4! FOUR complete megalodon teeth! The first two are around 3 inches and are complete with good color. The third is a little under 4 inches and by itself would constitute a great day collecting in my book, but the fourth tooth is a stunner. Its definitely of my best megalodon teeth finds in a year at least. The tooth just a hair under 5 inches with remarkable preservation for a land site in the Charleston South Carolina area. Diva couldn't believe it. She had dug for days across where I found it and didn't really find much, but I popped into this spot and just started digging down. There was about 4 feet of overburden, and the top half was pure slop - that's why nobody had dug there yet. But when every other place had been dug out, it was the only choice. There was nothing to either side of it either, so I'll attribute this awesome find to just plain ol good luck!

Zebra Sharks - Amazing Life of Mini Documentary

These incredible endangered Sharks flock to Julian Rocks at Byron Bay every single year in enormous schools. Their 'lack of teeth' means that diving with these sharks is incredibly safe. They feed on small shrimp and invertebrate, and are incredibly curious and relaxed towards humans.

Oddly enough this shark species is also migratory (in some regions) and is known to follow warm water currents. Interestingly, this species of shark also does not have to swim to breathe! They have an unusual ability to funnel water over their gills through their mouth, meaning they can breathe while stationary or on the sea floor.

To answer the never ending name question, you American scuba divers or snorkelers will know these sharks as Zebra Sharks, whereas Australian, South East Asian and New Zealand divers know them as Leopard Sharks. Americans have another species of shark (that Australian and the Indo-Pacific region do not have in our waters) which they refer to as Leopard Sharks hence the naming confusion! But here you have it. When in doubt, scientific names exist to solve all these issues! Scientifically these sharks are: Stegostoma fasciatum.

This film was shot in summer in Byron Bay, NSW, Australia.

This video belongs to my series of videos (Amsterdam Facts, Information, Things, Bicycle info) which are all in the playlist linked down below! I cover things you should know about Amsterdam or things you don't know about Amsterdam (aka some nice Amsterdam information / facts). All these Amsterdam mistakes are placed in random order, so it's not an Amsterdam Top 5, just Amsterdam facts & information in the order which came to my mind while filming. Some will be things you wish you knew before going to Amsterdam (and did I put this sentence here for you or for the YouTube algorithm? I might answer that question in another video!).

There are just SO many bicycles in Amsterdam. There are truly more bikes than people over here. That's why I decided to make a few Amsterdam bicycle information videos. Maybe one day, bicycles will take over the world, if that happens, the bicycle revolution will probably start right here in Amsterdam.

Some of the Amsterdam facts are common knowledge to all Amsterdam locals, but other things come from my personal experience (loophole: I'm also an Amsterdam local).
