MAP OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA

salutations my friends. this is a map of the south china sea. The South China Sea is a marginal sea of the Western Pacific Ocean. It is bounded in the north by the shores of South China (hence the name), in the west by the Indochinese Peninsula, in the east by the islands of Taiwan and northwestern Philippines (mainly Luzon, Mindoro and Palawan), and in the south by Borneo, eastern Sumatra and the Bangka Belitung Islands, encompassing an area of around 3,500,000 km2. It communicates with the East China Sea via the Taiwan Strait, the Philippine Sea via the Luzon Strait, the Sulu Sea via the straits around Palawan (e.g. the Mindoro and Balabac Straits), the Strait of Malacca via the Singapore Strait, and the Java Sea via the Karimata and Bangka Straits. The Gulf of Thailand and the Gulf of Tonkin are also part of the South China Sea. The shallow waters south of the Riau Islands are also known as the Natuna Sea. thats all for now. thanks for listening. please subscribe for the best maps. goodbye. The South China Sea contains over 250 small islands, atolls, cays, shoals, reefs, and sandbars, most of which have no indigenous people, many of which are naturally under water at high tide, and some of which are permanently submerged. The features are:

South China Sea
The Spratly Islands
The Paracel Islands
Pratas Island and the Vereker Banks
The Macclesfield Bank
The Scarborough Shoal
The Spratly Islands spread over an 810 by 900 km area covering some 175 identified insular features, the largest being Taiping Island (Itu Aba) at just over 1.3 kilometres (0.81 mi) long and with its highest elevation at 3.8 metres (12 ft).

The largest singular feature in the area of the Spratly Islands is a 100 kilometres (62 mi) wide seamount called Reed Tablemount, also known as Reed Bank, in the northeast of the group, separated from Palawan Island of the Philippines by the Palawan Trench. Now completely submerged, with a depth of 20 metres (66 ft), it was an island until it sank about 7,000 years ago due to the increasing sea level after the last ice age. With an area of 8,866 square kilometres (3,423 sq mi), it is one of the largest submerged atoll structures in the world.

Trade route

Millions of barrels of crude oil are traded through the South China Sea each day
The South China Sea is an extremely significant body of water in a geopolitical sense. The sea has historically been an important trade route between China, southeast Asia, and going to India and the west. A number of shipwrecks of trading ships that lie on the ocean's floor attest to a thriving trade going back centuries. Nine historic trade ships carrying ceramics dating back to the 10th century until the 19th century were excavated under Swedish engineer Sten Sjöstrand.

it is the second most used sea lane in the world, while in terms of world annual merchant fleet tonnage, over 50% passes through the Strait of Malacca, the Sunda Strait, and the Lombok Strait. Over 1.6 million m³ (10 million barrels) of crude oil a day are shipped through the Strait of Malacca, where there are regular reports of piracy, but much less frequently than before the mid-20th century.

Natural resources
The region has proven oil reserves of around 1.2 km³ (7.7 billion barrels), with an estimate of 4.5 km³ (28 billion barrels) in total. Natural gas reserves are estimated to total around 7,500 km³ (266 trillion cubic feet). A 2013 report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration raised the total estimated oil reserves to 11 billion barrels. In 2014 China began to drill for oil in waters disputed with Vietnam. The area in question is known as Vanguard Bank and which Vietnam officials claim lies within their country's 200-mile exclusive economic zone. China, however, disputes this fact.

According to studies made by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippines, this body of water holds one third of the entire world's marine biodiversity, thereby making it a very important area for the ecosystem. However the fish stocks in the area are depleted, and countries are using fishing bans as a means of asserting their sovereignty claims.

Indonesia's maritime waters have been breached by fishing fleets from Vietnam and the Philippines leading to said ships being seized and sunk by Indonesian authorities.

China announced in May 2017 a breakthrough for mining methane clathrates, when they extracted methane from hydrates in the South China Sea. #southchinasea #southchina #southchinaseanewsupdate #mapschool #mapsolo #mapas #maps

Which country dominates the South China Sea?

The South China Sea, a vital nexus for global trade with an annual value in trillions, has become a geopolitical flashpoint where economic interests intersect with territorial disputes. This strategic waterway, facilitating one-third of the world's trade and the transit of millions of barrels of oil daily, is marred by contested claims from nations like China, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Brunei. China's expansive new ten-dash line claim, covering over 80% of the sea, coupled with aggressive island-building initiatives, raises concerns about militarization, adding complexity to the geopolitical landscape. Beyond maneuvers, the South China Sea holds broader significance, impacting the livelihoods of millions, as overfishing and territorial disputes threaten food security. Unresolved dominance entails potential consequences such as military conflict, trade disruptions, and environmental degradation. The intricate web of territorial claims, featuring China's audacious New ten-Dash Line claim, faces opposition for its lack of legal foundation, requiring a multifaceted approach, including diplomacy and international cooperation. The region's fate hinges on ongoing dialogues, diplomatic resilience, and shared responsibility for a stable and prosperous future in this geopolitical hotspot. China's Artificial Island: Uncovering Its Impact on the West Philippine Sea

China's Artificial Island: Uncovering Its Impact on the West Philippine Sea
#travelvlog #philiphines #westphilippinesea

China has created several artificial islands in the South China Sea, which has been a source of tension between China and its neighbors. These islands are built on top of submerged reefs and rocks, and the construction process involves dredging sand and other materials from the seabed and piling them up to form an island.

The largest of these islands is called Fiery Cross Reef, which has an area of around 3 square kilometers and is home to a runway, military installations, and other facilities. Other notable artificial islands include Mischief Reef, Subi Reef, and Spratly Island.

China's creation of these islands has been controversial because they have been built in waters that are also claimed by other countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia. These countries argue that China's actions violate international law and threaten their territorial sovereignty.

The Chinese government has defended its construction of these islands, stating that they are for civilian purposes and serve as a way to provide safety and security for Chinese vessels in the region. However, the military capabilities of these islands are widely known and have led to concerns among other countries about China's intentions in the region.

Qilian Yu of South China Sea| CCTV English

Qilian Yu, a subgroup of China's Xisha Islands, South China Sea, is the overall name of other islands including Zhaoshu Island. Located in the northeast of Xisha Xuande islands, Qilian Yu linking with the reefs looks just like a string of pearls hidden in the sky. Anyone who is lucky enough to stroll on the white sands of Qilian Yu will forget the urban troubles and melt into peaceful holy islands.

South China sea dispute 2019

The South China Sea dispute is one of the most dangerous friction points in the world today.

The South China Sea conflict revolves around the issue of territorial ownership of the South China Sea, island groups residing there, oil exploration rights, fishing and goods transit.

*********** PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL **************

The South China Sea is a region of top strategic importance. Each year, goods worth trillions of dollars are transported, and its control is control of the central maritime artery of East Asia and Southeast Asia.

For many years, China has been claiming ownership of the South China Sea and its neighboring countries, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, refusing to accept its position.

But not only do they refuse to accept China’s position, but the Hague International Court also ruled in 2016, following a Philippines claim that China has no territorial rights at the South China sea.

The superpowers do not accept China's claims either, but all this does not stop China from realizing what it sees as its right and to build civilian and mainly military facilities on various island groups.
The main South China Sea islands are Spratly islands, Paracel islands and the Gulf of Tonkin.

In addition, China threatens ships or aircraft passing where it considers Chinese territory, without requesting upfront approval and this another factor that raises the South China Sea tension.

Over the past few years, the United States has been sending regular, naval and aerial forces to exercise its freedom of navigation and movement in the South China Sea that China claims to own.

There are quite a few YouTube videos with recordings of Chinese inspectors warning the troops about entering Chinese territory but the warnings did not help.

Many people wonder if South China sea war is the real option of war between China and the US, and if the US will get involved in a war with China, how south China sea war scenario will look like?

In this video, I review the history of the South China Sea dispute now, and try to assess whether China would risk initiating a war against the United States, and if so, what could be the implications of this war on China and its future.

What will happen to the South China sea islands built by china
To try to assess correctly, I go back to China's history, its main ethos and what is guiding it today and out of this comes a prediction of a possible war between China and the United States.

The South China sea news explained in this video in a very easy way.

Why we are in 'the age of artificial islands' Why building more islands than ever before.

Hundreds of years ago, the Lau people of the Solomon Islands built around 80 artificial islands in a lagoon, placing bits of coral and rock into the water, piece by piece. It took them centuries.

Throughout history, humans have sought to create dry land within lakes, rivers and oceans, which they could then populate. But the 21st Century has brought a new ambition – and perhaps a touch of hubris – to this endeavour.

We are living in an age of islands, according to the social geographer Alastair Bonnett of Newcastle University, UK. New islands are being built in numbers and on a scale never seen before.

The geographer visited human-made islands all over the world, exploring a variety of constructions. Giant artificial archipelagos, created by pouring millions of tonnes of sand into the ocean. Concrete-coated Frankenstein atolls, designed to consolidate military and political power. And dizzyingly tall oil rigs extending hundreds of metres down to the seafloor.

While some artificial structures have been reclaimed by nature, that process takes time. Often, there's little life beneath the waters surrounding man-made islands. All too often artificial islands are dead zones. Trying to make them live again is hard work, writes Bonnett. In places like the South China Sea, once pristine and untouched reefs…have been horribly mutilated: squared off and concreted over.

What Does The High China Investments In The Caribbean Mean?

What do you think of the China-Caribbean relationship and the huge investments China is making in the Caribbean which will lead to huge China's influence in the region?

As the world’s second-largest economy by nominal GDP, totaling around USD18.32 trillion the past year, and the world’s largest economy since 2016 when measured by PPP – Purchasing Power Parity – China is a country that witnessed very rapid economic growth in the past decades. The two main factors explaining such are its rapid productivity growth and large-scale capital investment, financed by substantial domestic savings and foreign investments, too.

In 2022, China accounted for 18.6% of the global economy in terms of PPP. According to IMF – the International Monetary Fund – China is already the world’s largest economy, over 20% larger than the United States economy which used to be considered the top one globally.
Nowadays, China has foreign investments basically in every continent. Its economic superpower is unparalleled and constantly growing.

In the past years, especially in the 2005-2022 period, China has invested billions of USD in the Caribbean. This happened while signing tax and trade deals in several Caribbean countries. Is this to seize the region out of the West’s sphere of influence and bring it under the sway of Beijing?

China warns the U.S. after warships sail into the South China Sea

The US military said two of its warships sailed near islands claimed by China in the South China Sea today, a move that angered Beijing at a time of tense ties between the world's two biggest economies. The US guided-missile destroyers Preble and Chung Hoon traveled within 12 nautical miles of Gaven and Johnson Reefs in the Spratly Islands, a US military spokesman said.

Scarborough Shoal, also known as Huangyan Dao in the South Chinese Sea

116 Scarborough Shoal, also known as Huangyan Dao (simplified Chinese: 黄岩岛; traditional Chinese: 黃岩島; pinyin: Huángyán Dǎo), Democracy Reef (Chinese: 民主礁; pinyin: Mínzhǔ Jiāo), Bajo de Masinloc,[1] or Panatag Shoal[2] (Filipino: Kulumpol ng Panatag),[3] is a shoal located between the Macclesfield Bank and Luzon island in South China Sea.
It is a disputed territory claimed by the People's Republic of China, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the Philippines. The shoal's status is often discussed in conjunction with other territorial disputes in the South China Sea such as those involving the Spratly Islands. Since the 2012 Scarborough Shoal standoff, access to the shoal had been restricted by the People's Republic of China.[4] However, in 2016, following meetings between the Philippine president Duterte and his Chinese counterparts, China allowed Filipino fishermen to once again access the shoals for fishing.[5]
The shoal was named by Captain Philip D'Auvergne, whose East India Company East Indiaman Scarborough grounded on one of the rocks on 12 September 1784, before sailing on to China.[6][7]Scarborough Shoal Beautiful places to travel to game :

SAILING THE SOUTH CHINA SEA: DESERT ISLANDS & BEACHES Ep 82

▶ Check out my gear on Kit:

Heading into the South China Sea, we discover tiny and remote, desert islands, fringed in coral. Terns flocking around the rocks, sea eagles soaring overhead and colourful reef fish swimming in the shallows. We even saw a dugong!

Our 40 mile passage from Pulau Tinggi to Pulau Tioman was blissful, with a good broad to beam reach the whole way.
