Where to live in the Algarve, Portugal!

I'm an expat living in the Algarve (for over 20 years) and know every nook and cranny of the place. In this video I give you an overview of the main towns along with some great drone footage. I can dig deep into each place, just let me know which towns you'd prefer to investigate and I'll make a video about them and I can talk all about international schools, quality of life, the healthcare system, internet connections, proximity to airports with international flights, cost of living, active expat community and the low crime rate.

What's it like to live in Albufeira, Portugal during the off-season?

#albufeira #algarve #portugal #expatlife

What is it like to live in Albufeira, Portugal during the off-season? In case you didn't know, Albufeira is a city in the Algarve region of Portugal. This area gets 300+ days of sunshine each year. Albufeira is known for its gorgeous beaches, lively restaurants, and rowdy nightlife. In the summertime, its population swells to over 300,000. In the off-season, it shrinks to 40-some thousand. In this video, we share some of the pluses and minuses of spending the off-season in the party capital of the Algarve and a few tips about managing those minuses.

We've loved using Nice Rent our car rental

Some costs for the curious (please keep in mind that costs can change a lot and Chris is quite the negotiator):

- The house in the off-season has been about 2700 euros per month.
- The car rental in the off-season has been about 30 euros per day.
- Dining out at the restaurants we've mentioned can range from about 50 euros to about 200 euros depending on how much you want to splurge! We've even enjoyed 3-course lunches in the area for about 10 euros each.

Oh, the restaurants we LOVE in this area!!!

Paper Moon
Dom Dinis
O Amigo
O Lusitano
O Marineheiro
Italian Republic

We hope that by sharing what we've learned about living in Albufeira, Portugal that it'll help you decide if this is the place to you and/or prepare you for your move.

COST OF LIVING Portugal (Algarve) - is it AFFORDABLE?

Cost of living in Portugal - In this video, we will break down our cost of living in the Algarve Portugal for May and June in 2022. This is typically a time of year when you see the pricing start to jump up for the summer season. Did we still find that this area was an affordable place to live? We will share with you all our monthly expenses from Rent, Groceries, and Entertainment, as well as some medical and dental expenses. We spent two months in the Algarve, exploring from the east to the west coast, one month in Lagos, and another in Cabanas de Tavira. Each city offered something a bit different and we will break down the cost differences for each location.

ALGARVE, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Places To Visit In The Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. Thanks to its year-round sunny weather and beautiful rugged coastline, it’s one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of Europe. In this video we highlight 10 diverse places to visit in the Algarve:

10. Sagres
Sitting at the westernmost tip of the Algarve, Sagres is the wildest and most untamed destination. Windswept, barren landscapes, towering cliffs, and rough waters are what set this place apart.

9. Portimão
Visit the Portimão museum if you want to learn more about its fishing and canning tradition, or go to the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar for panoramic views. But the biggest draw is undoubtedly Portimão’s nearby Praia da Rocha.

8. Faro & Ria Formosa
From cobblestone streets and cozy squares to a wide range of lagoons and wetlands, Faro boasts a blend of city and nature activities. We really enjoyed a boat tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which is home to canals, marshland and small islands.

☑️ Book a boat tour:

7. Aljezur & West Coast Beaches
With wide-open beaches and sheer sea cliffs, the West Coast of the Algarve is a true hidden gem. It’s also another prime destination for surfing. We recommend Arrifana Beach if you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer.

6. Fishermen’s Village Ferragudo
With its white houses reaching down to the river, walking around this authentic fishing town is an experience in itself. But Praia Grande is also a great place to relax and enjoy watersports.

5. Lagos & Ponta da Piedade
Lagos has a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but also some historical sights, such as castle walls, churches, and a fort. Combine this with its spectacular coastline, filled with steep cliffs, caves, and grottoes, and you’ve got one of the most scenic destinations in the Algarve.

???? Watch Lagos video:

4. Serra de Monchique
Apart from beautiful beaches, the Algarve is also home to a rolling mountain range. The town of Monchique lies in pristine nature, surrounded by lush green forests. It’s an idyllic and authentic mountain town with sweeping vistas and a network of nature trails.

☑️ Book a tour to Monchique and Silves with Algarve Jipe Safari:

3. Silves
This historic town cascades down the hill, flowing out from beneath the beautiful Silves Castle (Castelo de Silves). Enjoy your time learning about the town’s history inside the castle walls as well as on the cobbled streets surrounding it.

2. The 7 Hanging Valleys
This 12km out-and-back hike takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete if you do the full route, and includes views of the Atlantic ocean as well as limestone rock formations. There is some elevation gain and loss as you climb up and down each of the valleys, but overall the hike is easy to moderate.

1. Benagil Cave
The Benagil Cave is a world-class natural attraction in the Algarve. Although it’s only a short distance from Benagil Beach, you still need a kayak, stand up paddle board, or guided boat tour to reach the caves safely.

☑️ Book a guided kayaking tour:
