This is a video of my recent Emirates flight in September 2020. What’s changed onboard an Emirates Flight? I flew with Emirates from Zurich to Dubai and the flight was really empty. The crew showed me what’s changed in First, Business and Economy Class on Emirates.

Lot of services have been modified to reduce touch points. Hygiene kits have been introduced. Hot meal services have been retained across all classes. Lots of items are now sealed and wrapped. The crew explained what’s really changed in the airline.

I did feel quite sad as there are so few passengers travelling on long haul flights at the moment, due to all the uncertainties, border closures and quarantine restrictions. I hope the government, and all the relevant stakeholders, can work to standardize travel rules and restrictions to enable more people to travel.

Inside the video, I have also given 5 hints and tips to help my fellow travellers fly during the pandemic. These tips are not encouraging you to fly, but are more to may help you to prepare better if you must fly.

The New Normal of Airline Travel - What’s Changed?

I have observed 5 ways that commercial air travel has changed, since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

1. Airlines are retiring 4 engine, less fuel efficient, airplanes such as the B747 and A380.

2. As a result of lower demand and removal of the B747 and the A380, there are less or almost no First Class seats available.

3. Airplanes are cleaner now than ever. There is strong emphasis on the hygiene of air travel at the moment. Does social distancing really work in the air?

4. We are seeing drastic changes in how the in-flight service is conducted. Some airlines are downgrading their in-flight meals significantly. Hot meals and trays are being replaced by sealed and pre-packaged cold snack boxes. I will discuss the different in-flight service standard of British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, ANA, Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad.

5. Flying will become a necessity only for those who need to, it won't be for fun any more and will not be as easy as before. A lot of cumbersome paperwork, travel approvals and Covid tests are needed for international travel at the moment.

Behind the Scenes - How Emirates Train Their New Cabin Crew?

I visited the Emirates Aviation Training College in Dubai where Emirates train their cabin crew. The new Emirates cabin crew (ab initio) went through an intensive 8 weeks of training and exams to be qualified to fly.

I was given a behind-the-scenes tour of Emirates new cabin crew training including safety and emergency procedure (SEP) such as sliding, aircraft ditching, smoke and fire in the cabin. Then I observed First Aid Training (GMT) including CPR and newborn baby delivery. After that, I visited the image and uniform to see how the new flight attendants get groomed to Emirates standard. Last, I went inside the mock-up aircraft trainer to observe the new cabin crew service delivery.

Emirates Aviation Training College is the world's largest Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 training facility— including flight simulators, pool for ditching exercises, emergency slides and real firefighting simulators. Mock cabin interiors, specialised training rooms and virtual, game-based training scenarios complete the immersive and realistic training environment.

On average, 120 new cabin crew graduate from the Emirates Aviation Training College each week.

Emirates New Premium Economy and Upgraded Cabin on A380

Emirates recently revealed their new Premium Economy seat onboard a new A380. I was invited to take a first look at the new Premium Economy cabin.

I interviewed the Chief Operating Officer of Emirates, Adel Al Redha, during my tour of the aircraft. I asked him why Emirates is launching such new product and whether more airplanes in the fleet will feature such a product.

Currently, Emirates is not selling Premium Economy seats until they have more airplanes equipped with the new product. For the time being they are giving complimentary upgrades for frequent flyers and full fare paying Economy passengers. More details of the soft product in Premium Economy will be revealed in the future.

Not only Premium Economy, the rest of the Emirates A380 cabin has also been upgraded. You can see the new fabric and finishing’s of Business Class and Economy Class.

This started off just like any other flight. Then it changed and before long we were back where we started but landing under full Emergency Landing conditions.

What Happens in an Emergency Landing and What To Do Next

This is the full story of my journey on Sri Lankan Airlines Flight UL605 from Melbourne to Colombo. Only 30 minutes out of Melbourne there was the smell of burning and smoke filled the back of the cabin.

What happened next is a text book example of how well the aviation industry is trained for these types of emergency events. In this video I cover the full story - how things where handled by the flight and cabin crew - what happened at the airport to prepare for our landing - what happened when we landed - and then I cover exactly what happened next as Sri Lankan Airlines handled 250 disrupted passengers.

Throughout the process I explain it from a passenger perspective but also as someone who works in the travel industry and has been actively involved in crisis management for many years. I'll tell you what was happening behind the scenes.

Then as each step unfolds I'll give you handy hints and tips so that if you find yourself in this situation you know exactly what to do to make it easier and less stressful.

Intertwined within this story is a full Sri Lankan Airlines business class flight review which I happened to be filming when the drama unfolded. So not only do we get to see what Sri Lankan Airlines business class is like these days but was also get to see how they handle things when things go wrong.

It's a fascinating story of the Sri Lankan Airlines Emergency Landing of flight UL605 at Melbourne Airport and what happened next. I hope you enjoy the video.

Hi guys, this flight review video is about my recent flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Amsterdam, The Netherlands on the Emirates Boeing 777-300ER in their economy class , this flight departed at 0815 (DXB time) and arrived at 1300 (AMS time).

This is my third Emirates flight in a row, I wish I could fly more but the pandemic is making sure that's not possible..
The hard and soft product is consistent even in though times like these where airlines have to reduce costs.

Travelling During Covid-19 pandemic: Emirates First Class Suite On An Empty Flight ✈️

This was our flight from Dubai to Singapore in May 2021. We departed from Dubai at 9 AM in the morning.

And YES, I was upgraded to First Class!!! ???? ✈️

We boarded from Seychelles the day before, and stopped over in Dubai for a few hours. We slept in a lounge sofa and were very tired. Nico slept straight away after take-off so I couldn’t bother him much ????

The flight last about 7 hours, which gave me enough time for brunch, lunch, snacks, afternoon tea and dinner! You’d better be hungry when you are on First class, because there is just so much to try! ????

After chatting with the crew, we understood that they were all vaccinated.
Let’s hope that with vaccination, things will, one day, return to “normal”.
