Steven Spielberg Gives A Tour of Universal Studios - Behind The Scenes of Movie Magic
Join renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg as he takes you on a guided tour of the legendary Universal Studios (Hollywood) lot in Universal City, Los Angeles, California (91608).
Steven Spielberg is gonna need a boat. Not a bigger boat. Same-sized boat, preferably.
Actually, the closer they can replicate the Orca fishing vessel from Jaws, the better.
We are sitting in a golf cart beside the lagoon at Universal Studios in Hollywood (Universal City), where — ever since 1976, the year after Jaws debuted — a mechanical great white has breached these depths to menace tourists on the famed tram (Studio) tour. (It works better than the prop shark on the movie ever did.)
This faux harbor, located just up the hill from Spielberg’s hacienda-style Amblin Entertainment offices, was once the mooring spot of the actual Orca fishing boat used in the movie.
Until, one day, it wasn’t.
“I used to come out for a couple of years after I made the movie to get over my PTSD,” Spielberg says, gesturing across the water. “I would work through my own trauma because it was traumatic. I would just sit in that boat alone for hours, just working through, and I would shake. My hands would shake.”
A psychiatrist might call this “exposure therapy” — confronting the thing that scares you. In Spielberg’s case: an out-of-control, over-budget, possibly career-ending nightmare production that nearly ruined him as a 27-year-old director just as he was getting started.
The troubles on that movie drove him, fueled him, made him tougher as he went on to make Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln, and countless others, including the new family fable The BFG. Forcing himself to sit on the Jaws boat in the middle of a fake lake on a dusty hillside in Los Angeles was how Spielberg reminded himself that whatever went wrong, he could handle it. He could fix it. He could make things work.
“Then I was fine,” he says. Time passed. “I hadn’t seen the boat in five years and decided to just come back and revisit it. And it was gone.” He shakes his head and throws up his hands. “They said there was dry rot, there were termites. Of course, there were termites and dry rot! It was an old boat!”
All that remains of the Orca now are the wheel, one propeller, and the flag. “I’m going to actually ask them to rebuild it and put it back here,” Spielberg says. “Because the tourists would love to see the Orca here.” So would he. The aches and pains of the Jaws shoot are exactly what Spielberg wants to face again, kind of like Robert Shaw’s Quint and Richard Dreyfuss’ Hooper showing off their healed-over scars.
Spielberg has made movies at studios all over Hollywood, but Universal has always been his home base. Not only is it the location of Amblin, it’s also where a baby-faced, teenage Steve Spielberg sneaked through the gates over the course of one long summer in the early 1960s, hoping to learn everything he could about moviemaking.
The BFG is Spielberg’s first movie released under the Walt Disney Studios banner, but its story of a little orphan girl and her adventures with a big friendly giant (played by Bridge of Spies Oscar-winner Mark Rylance) seemed like a good opportunity to revisit Spielberg’s own original stomping grounds.
While we’re gazing across the water, a tram rolls by and the 69-year-old transforms from legendary director…to theme-park attraction.
Spielberg grins and waves as the tourists try to get over their surprise in time to snap a few pictures.

What is This Loud NOISE?

Last night I was surprised to see that the Tallahassee, FL, National Weather Service admitted that the returns on the radar were military chaff, not rain. This area got bombarded on Monday and yesterday. See the second paragraph below.

What is this noise??? We thought for sure it was a Tornado, But it never changed it's position, and it lasted for well over 20 minutes or so... It was Soooo Loud, and it was shaking the house and the ground.
I called 911, They said they didnt know what it was, But that there were MANY calls coming in about the noise. They said they were sending patrols out to check it out...
There was a Flash of light that came from the same direction of the noise, then the noise just faded away. It was a relief obviously, I still thought it may have been a Tornado, But it also wasn't making any sense to me. We even put the kids in the bathtub and put a mattress over them just in case.
I called the News Station also, They told me it wasn't a Tornado, And that the police had told them to tell people it was an airplane revving it's engine at the airport. I live 4 miles from the airport, And I have lived here for 20 years, I have never heard an An airplane rev its engine at the airport, that was just insanity.
So when the noise was over, we drove down to the airport and stopped at a gas station nearby, They said they didnt hear anything. So it was not coming from that direction!
AND, on the 11 o'clock news that night, the weather man made a comment about all the calls that had come in about the noise, He said, Dont worry, It wasn't a Tornado, and it was confirmed that it WASN'T an Airplane, ALL You were hearing was THUNDER!!!..
If anyone has ever heard Thunder that was anything like that, Please let me know. It is just so Strange to me that the Stories kept changing.. Like we are stupid or something and dont know what Thunder sounds like.
Anyway, I Dont Know What it was.. But if you have any clue at all, Please do tell
Also, Very strange how after the Flash of light there was no thunder, the noise actually stopped.
Oh, and the NASA Space shuttle Discovery had already landed in south Florida about 5 hours earlier that day. It wouldn't have hovered for 20 minutes anyway, But just saying.
I had to load this video in a lesser format so that it would upload... If i can find out how to do a higher quality I will.

???? TORNADO in Washington D.C. from on Top of a Double Decker Bus (July 1, 2021) ⛈????
Towards the end of our Big Bus Double Decker D.C. night tour, a severe storm and F1 Tornado started rolling in. Our bus driver unknowingly drove right towards it before stopping at the end of the tour. We were attempting to evacuate off the vehicle when the storm hit. We rode out the worst of it from the bus which is actually NOT a great idea but we were caught. We did capture the tornado on camera right beside us. After the worst of it, the bus driver eventually (nicely) kicked everyone off the bus. With the businesses around us closed and no cabs or ride shares taking passengers, we were forced to head towards our hotel which was, thankfully, very close.

Florida June 2023 Day 13: Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort Hotel & Kennedy Space Center! ????????
Join us for an action packed day in Florida, starting off at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, enjoying a full day at the center, showing all of the exhibits and experiences available in an out of this world experience!
In the afternoon we check in to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort to experience a night in a luxury DVC Disney Vacation Club member room with stunning Savanna and animal Views! We show the room, the resort and experience some of the unique things on offer such as roasted marshmallows! Our first ever stay in a Disney World Resort.
For dinner we head to somewhere we have never tried before, Wing Stop on the 192! They have a variety of Chicken and Wings available and we could see why it was so popular with locals and tourists! After a nice bite to eat we relax in the Hot Tub at the Resort under a thunder storm!

Jeff Grunwald on the New Madrid Earthquakes
Early in the morning of December 16, 1811, residents of New Madrid, Missouri were literally shaken out of their beds. One of the largest earthquakes in United States history shocked and disoriented residents of the busy frontier town. For several weeks, earthquakes continued to tremble and terrify folks and, in the process, rearrange the land and reshape the Mississippi River. In this episode, I talk with Jeff Grunwald, the administrator of the New Madrid Historical Museum, about those earthquakes, what it was like to live through them, and their legacy on the area around New Madrid. In the Mississippi Minute, I talk about Bubbleland, the geographic oddity on the other side of the Mississippi from New Madrid.

Dam breach evacuation tabletop exercise
Discussion of what might occur if landslide caused a (hypothetical) breach of Hills Creek Dam above Oakridge, Ore., A catastrophic flood could destroy Oakridge and other Hwy 58 communities, other river dams, and flood much of Eugene-Springfield into the southern Willamette Valley. This program was presented as a preparedness discussion by Ready Friendly and Ready Eugene on Oct 20, 2022, the day of the Great ShakeOut international earthquake drill. The discussion followed the annual election of board members of Friendly Area Neighbors (FAN) neighborhood association in Eugene. Questions were taken to present to the US Army Corps of Engineers in a talk on dam safety Nov. 14, 2022, hosted by River Road Community Organization and NW Ready Eugene.
