Visit The Netherlands - The Don'ts of The Netherlands

Read the Blog: What Tourists Should Not Do When They Visit The Netherlands

Whether Heading to Amsterdam for a Crazy Night in the Red Light District, or to Haarlem for an architecture and art rendezvouses or to Rotterdam the Netherlands has a lot for people to do when they visit. This video goes over some things you shouldn't do when you go to The Netherlands.
The Don'ts of Visiting The Netherlands. Things Tourists Shouldn't Do in The Netherlands or Holland.
Filmed in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Copyright Mark Wolters 2017

Don't #1. Don't Call The Netherlands, Holland. Holland is actually only two of the twelve counties in The Netherlands.
Don't #2. Don't Think the Netherlands is Just Amsterdam. There are tons of other towns, cities and villages to visit. From the flowers in Keukenhof to the Beauty of Groningen.
Don't #3. Don't Be stupid with Drugs or Alcohol when you visit. The coffeeshops are world famous and you should never buy drugs off the street.
Don't #4. Don't just bite into hot food. The Dutch like their fried food hot as can be, so make sure you take a second to blow on it or else you might lose a few skin cells.
Don't #5. Don't Wander into the Bike Lanes in The Netherlands. Those bikes will get you.
Don't #6, Don't Take the Dutch Attitude Personally. The Dutch are very straightforward and will ask you anything. So don't be upset, just know that is just how they are.
Don't #7. Don't Forget to Bring a chip card with a PIN number for purchasing from person-less kiosks & shops.
Don't #8. Have coins with you so you can pick up a snack on the go.
Don't #9. Don't Be Surprised if you see all the Dutch Tourism Stereotypes when you visit. From wooden shoes to windmills to cheese to really tall people on bikes, you will see them.
Don't #10. Don't forget to buzz your train ticket card when you enter and exit the platforms/stations.
Don't #11. Don't Take pictures of the girls in the windows in the Red Light District.
Don't #12. Don't Take the Hop On Hop Off Bus in Amsterdam. The bus cannot go a lot of places in the historic center. You would be better off on the hop on hop off canal boat.
Don't #13. Don't think that Amsterdam is just the red light district. It is so much more with culture, food, art.
Don't #14. Don't forget to Bring a jacket. It will rain while you are there, even if it says sunny.

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

SURPRISING FRIENDS and FAMILY after 3 YEARS | They did not believe their eyes

This little short film is made out of footage that sat still on my hard drive for over a year.

So last year I came back home after traveling the world for about 3 years.
I told my Friends and Family that I would stay for at least one more year in New Zealand, while actually I booked my flight ticket home to give them the surprise of a lifetime.

When I first started traveling, at that time with my Ex, We intended to travel for a short time, but I never imagined to be away from home for so long, especially since I was always a family guy.

I have seen the most beautiful places on earth, but the most special by far for me has been New Zealand, I decided to start living here, so I found myself a house in Queenstown and job at one of the highest cliff jumps of the world, I fell in love with the crystal clear waters, the incredible mountain ranges and the fresh air.

I Made friends from all over the world and cherished every moment I had.

But 8 months into covid my visa couldn’t be extended, so I decided to have one last road trip around New Zealand, I took my drone and my camera and made this little short film about my trip, and take you with me at the moment I finally seeing my family after so long .

This whole trip changed me from a little boy in to a man, I had so many experiences from being chased by Thai clans to seeing volcano’s erupting. I had a lot of good times, but also many bad times where I felt alone and scared. But in the end, I learned from all of it and became who I am now.

For me this is just the start and I will keep expecting nothing and enjoy everything that comes my way.

I hope you enjoy this short film.

SURPRISE Trip: No Clue Where I’m Going!

In this experimental video, your Creative Director (my fiancée), Suzanne, planned an epic surprise trip. She booked a series of flights to interesting destinations she was certain we would all enjoy – you included, of course!

In this first episode in this three-video-series, you and I will find out our first destination. I’ll share how I felt “flying blind” as well as what the journey was like and, perhaps most interesting, where we went and what we saw!

Let me know what you think of this experiment. It’s way more “vloggy” than any video I’ve made before and it was fun to produce something so different.

In this series of videos, I cover things you should know about Amsterdam or things you don't know about Amsterdam (aka some nice Amsterdam information / facts). All these Amsterdam mistakes are placed in random order, so it's not an Amsterdam Top 5, just Amsterdam facts & information in the order which came to my mind while filming. Some will be things you wish you knew before going to Amsterdam (and did I put this sentence here for you or for the YouTube algorithm? I might answer that question in another video!). I guess a few of these will really surprise you! And the I Amsterdam City Card may not be the best option for you after all! Some of the Amsterdam facts are common knowledge to all Amsterdam locals, but other things come from my personal experience (loophole: I'm also an Amsterdam local). And I can't stretch this enough: respect everyone in the Amsterdam Red Light District.????Please consider subscribing for more videos about Amsterdam!

Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

SURPRISING OUR FAMILIES FOR CHRISTMAS (Emotional reunion after 10 months of travel)

We surprised our families by coming back to Canada for the holidays!! After nearly 10 months of travel, reuniting with our families and our dog was so exciting and emotional. We started our journey home in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, and made it all the way to Calgary, Canada. While we make the trip home from Mexico to Canada we explain all the challenges we had trying to get home (spoiler alert, we had to cancel and rebook flights three different times). While it was not a simple process, it was so worth it to see the surprised look on our families' faces when we showed up at Christmas celebrations to join them in the festivities!

Don't worry, we are not staying in Canada for good! We plan to spend a few weeks with our families and friends before getting back on a plane and continuing our international travels. We will be sure to film some of the beautiful, snowy Canadian landscapes while we are here and share them with you all soon!

Son's Surprise Return from Overseas for Christmas

Mom Surprised by Overseas Son Homecoming at Christmas

After being away overseas, son gives mother the best Christmas surprise I ever got.

This video was taken by me after a 32-hour trip from Taichung, Taiwan, to Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 17, 2011.

After being away on the other side of the world (Taiwan) for a year, I surprised my mother by coming home (to the USA) for Christmas - it took two months of planning with my father to keep her in the dark. She had no idea I was coming home.

You can see the look on her face - it's actual disbelief - she actually couldn't believe her eyes. She later told me that she thought it was so impossible for me to be standing there, she wondered if it was just someone who looked like me. It took a good 5 or 6 seconds for it to even register to her that I was really there.

Huge Surprise At the Dutch Food Market in Maastricht ????????

We are at the local Dutch food Market in Maastricht to try some delicious food. I was in for a big surprise when I ran into an Indonesian food truck selling sate ayam and sate babi. Omg the food was delicious. I also found some local Dutch snacks at the market which were simply amazing. I was more surprise to find Latin food all the way in Maastricht. I couldn't believe it. The diversity of foods in this market was simply amazing and I loved every bit of it. I can highly recommend the Dutch market in Maastricht to anybody visiting the city, specially the Indonesian food truck, they are simply amazing.
