FUNDRAISING FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE VOLCAN DE FUEGO ERUPTION NEAR ANTIGUA IN JUNE OF 2018:

Antigua is a beautiful colonial town that is easily accessible from Guatemala City. We flew from Mexico City to Guatemala City, and from there it is a 1 hour drive to downtown Antigua.

This trip might surprise some of my Mexican viewers, as we have been making videos in Mexico for the past 6 months. But don't worry, after the Guatemala trip we will soon be back in Mexico for more travel adventures. Watch the video to find out more :)

Getting LOST in Antigua, Guatemala | Day 1 First Impressions

It's day 1 of my Guatemala adventure, and I'm dropping my bags at the hostel and getting LOST! I just arrived in Antigua with no plan, no direction, and no idea what's in store! It's time to go out and explore all the beauty, food and culture that this slice of Latin America has to offer. On today's mission I explore a gigantic market, get a great view of the Agua Volcano, chow down on some amazing Guatemalan food like Caldo Tialpeno, and show you what the streets of Antigua are like in 2021. Stay tuned for daily videos of my adventures here on all of my social media platforms.

Have you been to Guatemala? Where should I go next?

Antigua Guatemala | Central America Travel Vlog | Things to do, weather, food, and more

See why Antigua is one of the must-see places in Central America in our travel vlog. A UNESCO world heritage site, for more than 200 years Antigua served as the seat of the military governor of the Spanish colony of Guatemala- a large region that included almost all of present-day Central America. First, we talk about the glorious weather in Antigua and some of the positioning of the city at an elevation of 5029ft. Then we walk to the very heart of Antigua: Parque Central (Central Park) with the fountain of the sirens at its center. Then we take a short walk to the Santa Catalina Arch, arguably the most famous landmark in all of Antigua if not all of Guatemala. The Santa Catalina Arch is not just a pretty tourist attraction, it was originally built with a very specific purpose. After lunch at the delicious Rincón Típico, we have a sweet treat at the Choco Museo (chocolate museum) while learning a little bit about how chocolate is made. Then it's off to another of Antigua's famous tourist destinations: the Convent of the Capuchinas (Convento Capuchinas). Like much of the historic city, the Convent of the Capuchinas was damaged during an earthquake many years ago, but it is still the perfect place to escape to when you want some peace and quiet. Lastly, we finish our day with some delicious Guatemalan coffee and catch a procession preparing for the famous Semana Santa. Unfortunately, Semana Santa (holy week) was canceled this year so we feel lucky to have seen this.

We filmed this episode of Antigua Guatemala in March 2020.

ANTIGUA GUATEMALA RUINS - A Video Tour

In this video tour of Antigua Guatemala, we visit six ruins that make the city so special. The city of Antigua is a UNESCO World Heritage site and when you visit, it is easy to understand why

Guatemala is prone to earthquakes. During the 1700’s, when Antigua was the capital, the area suffered several devastating earthquakes which left much of the city in ruins.

Some of those ruins still stand majestically around the town as a reminder of the resilience of this city and its people.

In fact, Antigua is a city of ruins. It is also beautiful with amazing architecture, vibrant colors, and some of the friendliest people we've ever met.

In this travel video tour, we visit:
1. Ruins of the Church of Candelaria, Antigua
2. Ruins of Santa Rosa de Lima
3. Casa Santo Domingo
4. The Temple of Our Lady of the Pilar of Zaragoza, The Capuchins
5. San Jeronimo Ruins
6. Ruins of Recolección

Hi, We’re Kim and Way, two over-50 travelers that packed up our jobs and hit the road to see the world.

We’ve been living a life well-traveled since early 2018.

And later that year, on top of the Great Wall of China, we decided to challenge ourselves to slow travel to 60 countries by 2024 – the year Kim turns 60. We’re calling it 60×60.

Visit ANTIGUA | What you NEED to see | Guatemala TRAVEL VLOG

Antigua, a UNESCO town in Guatemala. Bright houses and cobbled streets, surrounded by volcanoes and charm. In this video we show you what you NEED to see here in a short time. We pack in 24 hours of exploration into the city and cover all the main sites, and some that you wouldn't always see in a guide book.

We took tips from local people to see everything in a short time, from the hilltop view of the city, to the markets (the touristy ones and the local ones). We saw some chocolate making, the famous yellow archway and other stunning colonial style architecture.

There is also great food in Antigua, Guatemala. We checked out the typical local food and places to go and get healthy snacks (I could eat banana bread all day). These are the things you NEED to see, and in this travel vlog we hope it shows you some inspiration if you are planning on coming here, as there doesn't always seen like much to do on the surface, unless you are staying for Spanish Schools.

Join as we learn how to navigate this world, with a backpack on and camera set to record. Our day to day experiences, the highs and the lows. REAL backpacking, hostels, transport.

Casa Palopo is situated directly lake side with incredible views of Lake Atitlan and the volcanos. There are full hotel services at Casa Palopo. The ladies also go on a tour of the near by village of San Juan La Laguna. They goto a coffee farm and do lots of shopping in the colorful shops.

Travel Guide to Antigua/Guatemala

In this Guatemala and Antigua travel video guide, I head down to Guatemala and explore scenic Antigua, hike Volcano Pacaya, take a road trip to Lake Atitlan (and ride a horse along its banks), then head north to Tikal, home to the capital of the once mighty Mayan Empire, where I climb the many temples that have been discovered at the site.

ANTIGUA GUATEMALA: A tour around the city

Antigua Guatemala was a last-minute addition to our time in Guatemala. We are SO glad to have made the detour - especially during the week before holy week. The city was full of processions, sawdust carpets, and celebrations.

We had a charming Airbnb in the heart of all the action. Just down the street from El Cerro de la Cruz, three blocks from Parque Central and we were surrounded by many stunning ruins and historical buildings, including the Antigua Guatemala Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Joseph d' Antigua Guatemala).

In this video, we're walking about the city of Antigua.

“Let’s go” has pretty much been our life’s motto since we met nearly 25 years ago. We met in New York, moved to San Diego together, and married in Lake Tahoe – all within five months. When you know, you know – you know what we mean?

Now, after raising two adventure-seeking boys, we are ready to get out and explore some more. Our children have begun their lives and now it’s time to begin the second-half of ours.

We wanted a challenge and something fun, so we are starting an adventure of a lifetime. We’re calling it #60×60. Our plan is to travel to 60 countries by the time Kim turns 60 (that’s in 6 years by the way).

Travel Guatemala || Diving Into Semuc Champey

Semuc Champey almost didn't happen during our Guatemala trip. Evan (fiance/occasional camera guy) got an amoeba and dysentery infection less than 24 hours before this was filmed, but we had heard so much about Semuc Champey that he was determined to see it. It took us well over 9 hours to get there, but it was so worth it!! Some things to know before you go: bring water shoes, towels, and your patience...Semuc Champey is very hard to reach, so you'll be crammed into the transports with other travelers with almost no wiggle room. Also, it's remote, so there is very little internet access. My mom didn't hear from me for two whole days (gasp!) while I was in Semuc Champey, and she thought I had died. So, warn your friends and family, get your stuff together, and GO! - Nathalie
