Overlanding BOTSWANA | Okavango Delta & the Moremi Game Reserve | Adventure In the Wet season | Ep1

Overlanding BOTSWANA | Okavango Delta & The Moremi Game Reserve | Adventure In the Wet Season

The Okavango Delta is Africa's Garden of Eden. It's a place filled with mystery at every corner, an adventurer's paradise, and a wildlife haven. This is a destination that we continually find ourselves wanting to go back to. And in this episode, we make the excuse to off-road adventure travel this amazing place.

Overlanding in Botswana and adventure traveling in the month of February to the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, isn't alwyas advised when the rain is falling. But, ol Ed and I pack up and make this 18 day adventure one to remember.

We visit, Woodlands Lodge and bush campsites, make a stop at Nata Bird Sanctuary just outside of Nata town, spend a night at Planet Baobab, and then, finally, we make it to the Moremi where we spend our first night at South gate, Maqwee campsites in the wilds of Botswana. Waking up the following day we make the drive through mud and water to Third bridge, in the NW of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. This is a specail place to wild camp, and we are in our absolute element with widlife sightings and the bush at their best.

What an offroad adventure expedition, and a big shout out to the ladies from the Xomae group for assisting us with campsite bookings both in the Moremi and the Nxai Pan National Parks.

This adventure supported by Lacie, Indeflate, and Cross Country Insurance from the financial consultants Netsure.

Thank you to:

BOTSWANA in the rainy season | Moremi Game reserve, Khwai Magotho

As the dawn breaks, casting a luminescent glow across the green grass, the symphony of nature awakens. Welcome to the wondrous expanse of the Moremi Game Reserve, a haven of primal beauty and raw magnificence. Graceful giraffes stretch their necks toward the heavens and gentle giants traverse the landscape, leaving massive foot imprints upon the very earth itself.
In the heart of Africa's untamed embrace, where the golden sun paints the horizon with fiery hues, lies a realm where the wild reigns supreme and adventure awaits those with a daring spirit. Moremi truly is a place like no other
Deflating tired is a necessity when traveling on Botswana's corrugated gravel roads. It not only puts less strain on your vehicle but also protects the road.
The road was full of water pools, but most had a detour road which was dry.
The bridges always feel unsafe, especially with such heavy vehicles and caravans.
Third bridge is an open and wild camp where the animals roam free between the campsites.
The campsites are very spacious, with a boma and a braai, as well as a running tap.
The ablutions are also very well maintained, and we have never had any issues.
Third Bridge also has a shop that has some basic things like bottled water drinks, and toiletries.
Moremi's open plains and lush greenery serve as a sanctuary where the drama of survival unfolds daily.
The open plains are a haven for an incredible array of wildlife. Cunning predators like lions prowl the grasses while general plains game gracefully navigate the terrain. The air resonates with the symphony of birdcalls, from the lilting melodies of tiny birds to the sharp calls of fish eagles in the distant.
The Moremi does not have a shortage of wildlife, and the sounds are truly amazing
We had a very fruitful game drive after all the rains. On our way back to our campsite, we found some wild dogs on the move. They ended up heading in the direction of the campsites at Third Bridge
One of the most beautiful areas in the Moremi Game reserve is paradise pools. The entire area around was full of water, but this just added to the beauty of Paradise Pools
That afternoon, which was our last day in the Moremi, we finally got to see some proper Moremi Lions
They were proper lazy lions, and had a very full tummy
The Third Bridge area is always rewarding. The sightings were quite slow, but just being here and unwinding at the campfire makes it worthwhile
There were a few places that were badly dug out by other vehicles which made it a bit difficult with a trailer, but fortunately, the Landcruiser 79series has lockers in the front that made it possible to easily get through.
We left the Moremi game reserve at Khwai North gate. Just outside the gate is the Khwai village. Here we found a shop with a lot of basic goods, but most importantly we found what was considered gold at this stage, a few blocks of ice.
We continued on the transit road towards Khwai Mogotho, and as soon as we turned towards the campsites, the scenery immediately changed.
The drive from Third Bridge to the Khwai Community Campsites is a long one. But unwinding with a fire in the wild makes it all worth it.
The Khwai River is an overflow of the Okavango and forms the border of the Moremi Game Reserve. The area surrounding the river is very fruitful with a lot of wildlife, especially elephants.
The Khwai area is well known for its large elephant population and encounters in the campsites. After a proper bath, they throw dirt on themselves. The dirt acts as a barrier to protect their skin from insects, as well as some protection from the sun
The Khwai river boasts with some of the best elephant sightings that we have ever seen
We were in Khwai on Christmas day, so we did not drive around a lot and the ellies gave us hours of entertainment, after which we returned to our campsite and prepared a proper feast for that afternoon

Khwai Magotho, once again, did not disappoint. It is one of those places where you will always find… something new… something different, some other way to recharge your own mental batteries.

We were pleasantly surprised with the effort that the Khwai Community makes to keep the area clean. The ablutions were working perfectly and were always clean.
All the campsites are large and provide enough shade as well

Thank you for watching. Don’t forget to hit the like button. And please subscribe, not to miss the next episode as we head to Nxai Pans National park, and add some lasting memories, with some spectacular sightings

BOTSWANA Here We Come Again | Botswana in the wet season | Part1

Proper Wet season rain
Botswana Thunderstorms
More rain
Very slow driving in the rain
Plenty of water all around
AND EXTREMELY slippery track surfaces.
This is what you get when you visit Botswana in the Wet Season.

Come and join us on our Epic Botswana adventure in December 2022

We left a nice and dry Nelspruit after we filled up with fuel, which turned out to be our highest expense for the trip.
As we left Nelspruit the clouds began to gather and not long after that, the first drops started to fall.
We kept pushing forward and had rain for most of the way to Matamba bushcamp, our first stop of the trip. (

Hidden away in the heart of the Limpopo Province, lies the beautiful Matamba Bushcamp in an area classified as Savanna Grassland. Less than 300kilometers from Johannesburg, it takes around 3 hours to get there, and from Nelspruit, it is around 450kilometers, but due to bad road conditions it is more than 5 hours drive to get there
This unique destination offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
The ablution facilities are all very well maintained and clean.
For the more adventurous there are outside showers as well, and just like the main bathroom it is also very well maintained.
As the days can become quite warm, guests can relax at the small splash pool at Tau Camp.
Guests can enjoy hiking and mountain biking on a large stretch of sandy tracks, but no driving is allowed on the farm. For bird enthusiasts, the campsite offers an opportunity to spot some of the 300 bird species found in the area. Adventurers can explore the hides and waterholes that are along the 5 trails on the farm. Us, we enjoy sitting in camp and taking in all the wildlife that can pass through the camp

After 2 days of unwinding at Matamba, it was time for us to pack up. And today we are crossing the Limpopo into Botswana

We used the Stockpoort/ParsHalt Borderpost, as it has always been very quiet when crossing. The only downside is that the road turns into gravel as you enter Botswana.
We arrived at Khama Rhino Sanctuary around midday, and got allocated one of our favorite sites, site number 8. Arriving early gave us enough time to get the camp ready and still enjoy what Khama has to offer. Also, enough time to go and check out all the other Campsites available.
The wet season brings out an abundance of game at Khama and it is highly recommended
We once again hit the road after a good night’s rain and headed toward Letlhakane. Here we top up the cruiser and all the jerry cans with fuel.
We also do our last shopping at the Teemane Mall where there is a well-stocked pick-n-pay and all the other necessities that you will need before heading further north into Botswana.
And of course a burger for the road from Nando’s.
The Botswana clouds start to gather on our way to Rakops and it is clear that a proper storm is brewing in the distance.
Within a few minutes, the roads were flooded with water
As you turn off the main road towards CKGR, the scenery immediately changes.
The roads were flooded and very slow going. It took us more than 3 hours to reach the Matswere gate.
After all the admin at the gate, we were hopeful that the roads were going to be easier to drive. But we were wrong. The pools of water became deeper and deeper. And the clay surfaces became extremely slippery.
But finally, we made it to deception valley. And arrived at Kori Campsite 3 just before sunset.

BOTSWANA TRAVEL DOCUMENTARY | 4x4 Safari Road Trip feat. Victoria Falls

Follow us on our road trip safari through southern Africa's wildlife paradise Botswana. We drove through most of Botswana, including all the wildlife-rich areas like the Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe Nationalpark including the Chobe Riverfront and the Kalahari. We explored the Makgadikgadi salt pans in the center of the country, the Gcwihaba Caverns in the West and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the south. We also shortly ventured into Zimbabwe to marvel upon the majestic Victoria Falls. We were lucky enough to spot most of the big, and many small, animals which call Botswana home. These include elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, kudus, oryx, ostriches, honey badgers, bat-eared foxes, serval cats, warthogs, springboks, impalas and many more.

BOTSWANA Here We Come. Unforgettable journey from Nossob to Mabuasehube

The morning we had to pack up was extremely cold, so we started the day with a warm cup of coffee.

As we continued towards Mabua, taking in the never changing scenery and enjoying the freedom on the twospoor road, we can’t help but reflect back on a spectacular few days we had on the South African side of the Kgalagadi with some fantastic sightings.
A Recap of those sightings includes a fair share of leopard sightings some which made a lasting impression
Some remarkable raptors in the Auob Riverbed. If you go to the Kgalagadi for Raptors, you have to make sure to spend a lot of time in the Auob
Not a lot of lion sightings but it is still noteworthy
Fantastic next-level honey badger sightings
And one of our all-time top-of-the-list sightings was the hunting caracal.

We Stay over at Motopi Campsite 2 and then head over to Khiding Campsite 2 where we camp for four nights.

Botswana self drive guided with 4x4ventures: Stage2

#4x4ventures continues the adventure and takes you into the more wild parts of #Botswana.

Stage 2 of the adventures sees us travel from Planet Baobab to Maun, and on wards to South Gate at the entrance to the #Moremi Reserve.

We take a rest day, with some great game viewing, and a potjie (South African Beef Stew), full of the good stuff.

On wards we travel to the Magotho campsite, which is part of the Khwai Community trust. This will be the highlight to your next trip - a fantastic place. Another rest day as we soaked the wilderness in, at every corner, eyes wide open, we encounter scenes shown on post cards. A place every adventurer must experience.

Stay tuned for Stage 2 episode 2, where we pick up on day 8 and travel northwards o the wilderness that is the Linyanti.

SAFARI in BOTSWANA: Travel Guide for 4x4 camper ROAD TRIP to see ALL animals!

Welcome to Africa and welcome to wildlife paradise! Botswana is one of the best countries in the world for safari drives. In this video you'll see our little family on an adventurous road trip in a 4x4 camper. Due to bad weather we have some bad luck on the way, but in Africa help is always nearby. The heavy rainfall makes the challenge to cross Botswana a bit tougher, but we manage to find all the African animals in the National Parks.

In the previous episodes you saw how we started the road trip in Cape Town South-Africa. From there we drove the Cape Namibia Route along the West Coast to look for animals in the Kalahari Desert. After that we crossed the border into Namibia, where we drove straight through the world's highest sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. We saw all the sights in Namibia and wend on a safari in Etosha National Park. After Botswana we'll continue the road trip through Zimbabwe and the Kruger National Park, to finally deliver the camper in Johannesburg South-Africa again.

Our journey through Africa is part of a one and a half year trip around the world. We can even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Zanzibar & Tanzania, South-Africa and Namibia, Botswana is already destination number 24 on the big trip. We have also been away from home for over a year now. Follow us on this world tour, first in Botswana and then to many more beautiful destinations in Africa! We still travel non-stop all year and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or
