Snake Island | Deadliest Island in the world

A stunning island with tropical climate, lush jungles, and a fantastic shoreline lies about 90 miles off the coast of São Paulo in Brazil. Around its coastline, the light rocks are brushed by a dark blue ocean with tropical trees in the island, but you would not know that the island is infested with thousands of snakes, if you were sailing around it. Just be careful not to run up on shore and wander into the wrong jungle. It would be simple to mistake it for any other tropical island.
The island, known as Ilha da Queimada Grande, is small with only 43 hectares which is approximately 106 acres of land, but infested with thousands of snakes. One of the world's deadliest snakes, the golden lancehead viper, which is present in large numbers on the island, numbers between 2,000 and 4,000. Unfortunately, there are no known predators for the Golden Lancehead snake, so the snake population on the island surged quickly. You are most likely to come across at least one snake in every square metre, and you can’t walk out another few steps without seeing another snake, which is scary enough.

Snake Island Part 2. Exploring abandoned buildings filled with all sorts of critters. Ep126

Ep126. In this episode of Cruising Off Duty, we continue Part 2 of the Snake Island trip. We take our son Jake to an Island we have been to before, Main Duck Island. The Island is obviously a misnomer because we never see any Ducks but you can't go 10 feet without seeing a snake. That is the whole reason Jake really wanted to come sailing with us. Not because he enjoys sailing, which he doesn't, but because he loves snakes and we promised him that he would be blown away by how many snakes are on this Island. I always call this Island Snake Island and you will see why after you see this episode. In this Part 2 episode we also explore the Abandoned Lighthouse Keepers houses along with an abandoned radio or cell tower and its supporting buildings. Everything that creeps and crawls on this Island is found inside these abandoned buildings.

There is also a lot of drone footage of the Island that is quite beautiful, so if you are a fan of Drone footage, you will see plenty of that in this episode.

Ilha da Queimada Grande, also known as Snake Island, is an island off the coast of Brazil in the Atlantic Ocean. It is administered as part of the municipality of Itanhaém in the State of São Paulo. The island is small in size, only 43 hectares, and has a temperate climate.

The snakes became trapped on the island when rising sea levels covered up the land that connected it to the mainland. The ensuing selection pressure allowed the snakes to adapt to their new environment, increasing rapidly in population and rendering the island dangerous to public visitation. Queimada Grande is closed to the public in order to protect both people and the snake population; access is only available to the Brazilian Navy and selected researchers vetted by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation, the Brazilian federal conservation unit.
