Norfolk Island - Australia - There’s more to Norfolk Island...

Norfolk Island with its warm, quirky, caring and down to earth people set against the most dramatic, rugged and sensational background.

For years, travellers have escaped to this tiny volcanic outcrop in the middle of the South Pacific to savour the special subtropical blend of soaring pines, azure lagoons, brooding rainforests, dramatic coastline, scenic adventures and ever- smiling locals who open their idyllic homes to new guests.

Aside from lazing under the native cliff-top pines overlooking the dreamy blue Pacific you can snorkel in the lagoons, surf awesome breakers, hike amongst the world’s tallest tree-ferns to find the world’s rarest bird, taste Norfolk’s own cuisine using ingredients grown out of its pure soils, gallop across the evergreen hills and dales on horseback, explore World Heritage listed convict sites in Kingston and St Arthur’s Vale, play golf on one of the world’s greenest and most beautiful courses, explore the un- touched and deserted Philip Island, see vivid recreations of Norfolk’s time as a penal colony and as a postscript for history’s most famous mutiny.

There’s more to Norfolk Island...

Norfolk Island

My grandmother loved Norfolk Island and I have fond memories of a t-shirt she brought back for me which had a convict with a ball and chain that said I escaped Norfolk Island ;-). So we had to visit the island at some point and after a few years of not being able to travel, we decided that July 2022 was the time.

Norfolk Island or Burnt Pine as it is also known, is a small Australian island in the South Pacific Ocean, defined by enormous pine trees, jagged cliffs, beautiful beaches and interesting history which was also gruesome at times.

It is only a short flight from Brisbane and it does feel like you are stepping back in time. This video showcases the tourist aspect of our visit as we also did a few days fishing which we have uploaded as two separate videos that you can check out as well if you're a keen fisherman ;-)

If you haven't visited Norfolk Island - you should add it to your list and we suggest that two weeks is an ideal time period to immerse yourself in its lifestyle and you should get a few nice days out on the water as well. We stayed at Ocean Breeze Cottages and can happily recommend them with Cabins 9 - 12 offering lovely sea views towards Phillip Island ;-) Don't forget to wave to everyone while driving around the island and give way to the animals :-) #norfolk #fishing #oceanbreeze #burntpine #kingston #ptpitt

Norfolk Island History

Norfolk Island History firstly summarised by Kathleen, then humourously detailed by Kim, and then detailed by our local historian. This is the story of when #CaptainCook first discovered #NorfolkIsland and thought there would be two valuable products that the British Empire could use; pine trees and flax. Both products were for the advancement of boat-building.

History of Norfolk Island

History of Norfolk Island told by one of the most enthusiastic tour guides we have ever met.
The World Heritage listed (2010) Kingston and Arthur’s Vale Historic Area
(KAVHA) on #NorfolkIsland holds many historical treasures from Australia’s past Colonial and Penal history. It also holds Australia’s only connection to Polynesia along with a present day unique community full of its melded old English and Polynesian roots. Enjoy a short walk and immersion in the past and be surprised how close the present-day community is to the 230 year old Bounty/Pitcairn story. All of this is encapsulated in the KAVHA precinct.

We're Di and Ade, one writer, one photographer, both international tour hosts, with two backpacks full of wanderlust. We're trying to see as much of the world as possible.

Before Coronavirus turned the world upside down, we were getting ready to head off on a three-year round-the-world adventure. A Mid-life Gap Year, you might say, but spread over three because one simply isn't long enough. We'd got rid of all our stuff, rented out our home and had mapped out our first year of adventure.

But then the world went into lockdown. Time for Plan B.

We bought a 4WD Mitsubishi Delica and are now slowly making our way around Australia.

If you like meeting locals from all around the world, are inquisitive and compassionate, choose kindness and culture, adventure and experiences to live your 'best life', then you're our kind of people.

Join us as we try and figure out this video thing and experience the best of the world.

Norfolk Island Drive

Scenic Norfolk Island. In this film you travel around the side of the Airport on the right for most part of the way. You will see cows walking free on the roads. The cows have right of way!!The roads that are in use today, were originally built by convict labour. The speed limits are 40km in town and an exciting 50 on the open road!!
Norfolk Island offers a fantastic holiday. There are many great shops and cafes and also hand crafted pottery!

Air NZ A320 Landing & Takeoff from Norfolk Island Airport (4K)

This video is about my recent visit to Norfolk Island from Sydney. I was flying with Air New Zealand on one of its A320s. This is my first time taking Air NZ and I found the inflight service is really good. The view of the airport from the mountain is amazing. It would be a great place to see the plane landing or takeoff from that location. While we were waiting for our flight inside Norfolk island airport, a local dog walked in and wandered around the waiting area for us to pad...how cute!
Qantas just announced direct flights between Sydney and Norfolk Island in March 2021.
