WE TRIED TURKISH STREET FOOD IN ISTANBUL

WE TRIED TURKISH STREET FOOD IN ISTANBUL

In today’s episode we head over to the Asian side of Istanbul to try some delicious Turkish street food!

We start our street food tour with some Gözleme, Dolmas and Ayran at Bütme Evi, which honestly is the best breakfast we have had so far in Turkey. After our breakfast we head out into the streets of Moda to find some coffee, because no breakfast would be complete without coffee! We stumble upon Fazil Bey’s where we try Turkish coffee for the first time before heading back into the streets to see what else we can find!

We come across a little stall selling sweets where we purchased a sweet and crunchy baked dough, dipped in syrup. We honestly have no idea what the name is but the sign said Kesme, if you could tell it what it is be sure to share it with us in the comment section down below. The treat was only 6 Turkish Lira and absolutely delicious! Afterwards we head over for some well deserved ice cream at Ali Usta’s the perfect snack to take a break from the heat.

There is one snack left that we spotted on our way to Ali Usta’s and that is Pide! We order a cheese pide at Pide Sun, which is undeniably the best side we have ever had in Turkey. The pide is crunchy and filled with so much gooey cheese, what is not to love?! Full of all the delicious Turkish street food we decide to take a break from eating and head over to the European side!

After running to the ferry, great for burning of all those calories, we sit down at Beyzade for some baklava and Turkish tea. A small order is turned into a feast when we are served with baklava, a different type of baklava to try from the front counter, fruits, milk and nuts! After enjoying our baklava we head over to Taksim square to try the last Turkish street food that we have on our list: Dürüm!

Be sure to like and subscribe to join us on our adventures as we are heading to a new country next week!

$2 Turkish Street Food in Istanbul ????????

What started off as a doner kebab hunt ended up with us trying some completely different Turkish foods.

The popular doner restaurants in the Beyoglu area of Istanbul were too popular and we couldn't get a table. So we wandered the streets aimlessly until I found something that looked interesting, a small 'Nohutlu Pilav' restaurant on a street corner.

The massive glass box display of rice, separated by layers of chickpeas, caught my eye.

I ordered some of that along with some chicken liver and potatoes. The shop made fresh ayran, a type of yoghurt drink that's very popular in Turkey, so I chose that as my drink rather than the cans of soda in their fridge. All together it was the healthiest meal I've eaten in a long time.

@LukeDamant Was saving his appetite for the doner kebab that we were originally hunting for, so played camera man for me while I sampled the food.

The ayran tasted fresh and delicious and had some mint added to it for an extra bit of a kick.

The food tasted nice enough, but wasn't that exciting. What do you expect from healthy food? I did decide to spice it up a bit with some tomato ketchup, which went well with it.

Shout out to the staff of that shop who were super friendly and helpful in explaining what the food was. Restaurant details are down below.

The durum / doner kebab hunt continued. We tried the original place that we wanted to go to, Durumzade, but it was still packed with kebab lovers. So we continued to wander the streets.

Unfortunately my camera was on all the wrong setting for this video. I accidently changed the profile. This meant all my footage was cropped in, noisy, and with loads of motion blur that was especially awful in low light. The result is that all the footage of us wandering the streets, which was just after sunset, was completely unusable so I had to cut it from the final video.

So fast forward about 30 minutes and we found a small restaurant that had lots of tasty looking local grub on display. You see a lot of these places that have pre-made food in trays, displayed in their window, and it always looks tempting.

While I was thinking about which one I should get, the owner's nephew suggested Pide, also known as Turkish Pizza, which they make fresh in a special oven.

That sounded good to me and Luke was up for it too, despite his heart being set on a kebab. We ordered the Kuşbaşılı Pide, which has meat, cheese, tomato and peppers.

Again, the owner was very friendly and happy for us to watch him make the pide from scratch. The doughballs were rolled out into an oval shape, not round like a traditional pizza. There was no pizza sauce, instead a pre-prepared topping containing all the ingredients was added. It looked like a Mexican salsa.

Cheese was then added on top. It looked like mozzarella but I asked and was told that it was a type of Turkish cheese.

The edges of the base are rolled up and covered in egg, giving a nice crust to the pide after it cooks in the massive oven, which looks big enough to fit about 100 pizzas.

Of course the pide was delicious. The owner's nephew asked me to rate it out of 10 and I give it 11. Luke gave it a 12.

We didn't stay for dessert. Instead we decided to go back to the main street in Beyoglu and get bullied by the tricky ice cream vendors. Something you have to do at least once on a trip to Turkey.

$2 Street Food Meal in Istanbul, Turkey ????????

I found this food vendor at the corner of a street selling something called Nohutlu Pilav. I had no idea what it was but it looked tasty.

What arrived at my table, out on the street, was a plate of rice, chickpeas and chunks of chicken liver.

I washed that down with a healthy Turkish drink called Ayran, which is a type of drinking yoghurt.

Yum, yum!

We Tried Turkish Street Food in Istanbul

Trying Turkish food in Istanbul. We have just arrived in Turkey and you know how much we love finding local food, so we are heading out in Istanbul to try out some of the local Turkey food.

On our way to breakfast we had to grab a walking snack called Simet before finding Van Kahvalti to have a traditional Turkish breakfast plus menemen and free flowing Turkish tea. We were lucky enough to try a winter based drink called Salep aka warm Christmas soup.

The coffee machine was broken so we headed to Konotrop for some hipster Australian coffee and hipster Turkish coffee before having the craziest ice cream experience in our life!

After the break we head to Sutlac Nizam Pide to try what we thought was Turkish Pizza (Pide) at least we managed to have a taste of Ayran...not sure if we regret it haha!

From there we head to the Bosphorus to try Balik Ekmek and pickle juice...I have no idea where we found the room to try Borek on the way to the spice market...but not before trying some more coffee.

To end it all we went to Gullouglu to have some Baklava!

Thanks for watching everyone hope you enjoyed it :)

WE TRIED TURKISH STREET FOOD IN ISTANBUL ????????

FIRST TIME TRYING TURKISH STREET FOOD IN ISTANBUL TURKEY ???????? TURKEY TRAVEL VLOG

We've arrived in Turkey and after spending the first day getting our bearings we headed out to the streets of Istanbul to try some local Turkish street food.

We picked up a Simet and Corn before sheltering from the rain with a Kumpir in Patsosis on Istiklal Caddesi.

We then had a the famous Doner durum, followed by a fresh juice near the Galata tower. We ventured across the Galata bridge and tried some lokma - which are kind of like a Turkish donut.

We then had the most crazy ice cream experience before trying some Turkish delight.

Trying TURKISH STREET FOOD near Istanbul's top tourist attractions ????????

First time trying one of Turkey's most popular street food, balik ekmek (Turkish fish sandwich). We went to Galata bridge, located between the main tourist attractions in Istanbul. Amazing view of Galata Tower and Suleymane Mosque is visible from the bridge. It is also a short walk from Sultan Ahmed area where Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace are located. In this video, we also tried Turkish pickle juice, pide (Turkish pocket pizza?), and midye dolma (Turkish stuffed mussels). Check out our food tour vlog.

Incredible Turkish Kebabs in Istanbul ????????

On the kebab hunt, we asked the Istanbul locals where we could find the best Kebabs in the area.

A friendly man recommended a shop called Lezzet-i Şark.

I ordered 3 kebabs, thinking that would make a nice meal. But each kebab that I ordered came as a plated meal and was too much for me to eat. Thankfully @LukeDamant was there to help me, and so none of this delicious Turkish food was wasted.

Yum, yum!

Eating Turkish Street Food in Istanbul. Massive Feast! ???? Foreigners Try Street Food in Turkey ????????

This week we’re finally trying Turkish street food in Istanbul!

We start things off we something we never expected to have in Turkey - a baked potato! Kumpir is a street food in Turkey that really is a baked potato with cheese and then you choose toppings from a huge assortment.

Second on the list was a durum kebab. We got one chicken and one adana. Durum is a light flat bread that is grilled and then wrapped around the kebab meat of your choice.

Next up was a type of Turkish “pancake” or “crepe” called gözleme. You can get it with various types of fillings so we went with sausage and cheese. While here we also tried Ayran. Ayran is one of the most popular drinks in Turkey, you see everyone drinking it, and it’s made with water, yogurt and salt.

The next dish was one of our favourites! Often referred to as Turkish pizza, Lahmacun is a very thin flat bread with minced meat and spices, which you wrap up with some pickled vegetables. It’s really light and delicious.

Lastly one head to one more place to finish our DIY street food out in Istanbul. We start off with a common soup you’ll see in Turkey, spicy lentil soup. After this we had another dish that is also referred to as Turkish pizza - called pide. Pide is a flat bread that it kind of folded in boat shape, filled with various toppings, and cooked in a wood oven. Because we’d eaten so much that day we stuck with a basic cheese pide.
