We Tried Traditional Turkish Foods in Canakkale & Ayvalik

Our Turkey adventure beyond Istanbul begins as we leave the city to make our way towards Canakkale but not before stopping to pay our respect at Gallopoli for the ANZAC troops.

Our evening in Canakkale lead us to trying some traditional Turkish foods that you guys have been recommending we try since the last video.

After checking out the Trojan horse from Troy we made jumped on our first Turkish bus experience and headed out to Avyalik to find a few more dishes.

We caught a boat over to the island of Cunda, a vacation island for the Turks.

Traditional Turkish Foods we tried:
- Truck Stop Gozleme
- Midye Dolma - Stuffed Mussels
- Sardines
- Peynir Helvasi (Cheese desert)
- Lokma (Donut balls)
- Ayvalık Toast

We tried TRADITIONAL TURKISH food in ISTANBUL

ISTANBUL is foodie heaven! It’s easy to find good food in a city that is filled with endless options...⇩⇩Click ‘show more’⇩⇩

We started our day off with a classic TURKISH KAHVALTI (Breakfast) down the road at our local restaurant. You’ll be happy to know that in Turkey breakfast is a big deal, so don’t be surprised when they serve you a large spread of food. Our breakie came with Menemen a soggy egg dish, including, capsicum, tomatoes, cheese, olive oil and sausage. Alongside this dish were many others, salad with olive oil and cheese, boiled eggs, fresh bread and condiments. Oh and not to forget your Turkish tea or coffee that are always served black.

For lunch, we stumbled across a very small, local restaurant which served ADANA KEBAP and KOFTE (Turkish meatball). Both were very delicious and were accompanied by a large serving of rice and salad. We also ordered a Coban salad. The food in this restaurant was super fresh and tasty, just like home cooking.

KOKOREC: This may sound weird to some, it is either goat or lamb wrapped in intestines and cooked on a spit roast. All this slow cooking means that the meat with be tender and juicy for you to enjoy. I highly recommend you try this.

And last, but definitely not least. You need to clean your palette with some scrumptious Turkish ice cream; DONDURMA. It may be thick and sticky, but this is only because it is made with orchid flower and mastic. You may be surprised it actually tastes quite delightful!

Restaurants we visited in this video:

Breakfast: Kafkas kebap kafe:
Lunch: Had no address but close to the neighbourhood.
Kokorec:
Dondurma can be found at any convenience store.

We Tried Turkish Street Food in Istanbul

Trying Turkish food in Istanbul. We have just arrived in Turkey and you know how much we love finding local food, so we are heading out in Istanbul to try out some of the local Turkey food.

On our way to breakfast we had to grab a walking snack called Simet before finding Van Kahvalti to have a traditional Turkish breakfast plus menemen and free flowing Turkish tea. We were lucky enough to try a winter based drink called Salep aka warm Christmas soup.

The coffee machine was broken so we headed to Konotrop for some hipster Australian coffee and hipster Turkish coffee before having the craziest ice cream experience in our life!

After the break we head to Sutlac Nizam Pide to try what we thought was Turkish Pizza (Pide) at least we managed to have a taste of Ayran...not sure if we regret it haha!

From there we head to the Bosphorus to try Balik Ekmek and pickle juice...I have no idea where we found the room to try Borek on the way to the spice market...but not before trying some more coffee.

To end it all we went to Gullouglu to have some Baklava!

Thanks for watching everyone hope you enjoyed it :)

We sold all our belongings, bought an old Campervan & rented our house to travel full time. The aim is to attempt to visit every country in the world in either our van or with a backpack. AMERICAN EATS Turkish Traditional Food (first time!)

First time ever to try out the famous Turkish testi kebab. We had a chef for ourselves the whole time as he explained the tradition of the Turkish people and their food. Had probably the best kebab meal ever along with a nice performance by the Turk.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Best Turkish food in Istanbul. Unreal Food tour in Turkey. Eating Manti, Salep and Antakya Kebab ????????

This our final week in Istanbul and we couldn’t leave without trying even more food! This week’s video is all about must-eat dishes while in Istanbul, Turkey.

Our first dish is one that is often described as Turkish Ravioli. Turkish Manti are small dumplings covered in a yogurt sauce. It took us awhile to find a restaurant that serves it but finally we found one that specializes in it called Cihangir Manticisi. We tried both the meat Manti (more traditional) and a vegetarian version.

Later we made our way to a cafe that serves a traditional Turkish drink called salep. Salep is drink made from hot milk and a flour that is made from tubers from an orchid flour. This drink is normally served in the wintertime.

Our last meal was our biggest one, we found a great little spot called Asmalı Mescit Dürümcü. Here we ordered an Antakya kebab, made from ground meat and various spices and Chicken Kebab Wrap (durum) with Beğendi. Beğendi is a type of paste made of eggplant. This dish also came with four different mezzes (dips).

What to See & Eat in Canakkale, Turkey

What to See & Eat in Canakkale, Turkey

►Read the blog:

In this episode, David takes us around Turkey’s Marmara region to show us what to see and eat in Canakkale, Turkey - a beautiful city along the Dardanelles Strait. Canakkale is home to several historic monuments, beautiful streets and a plethora of amazing restaurants. It is also just a short ferry ride away from the ruins of ancient Troy! The best part is that Canakkale is only a 6.5 hour drive from Istanbul, making it a great stop-over destination for those traveling around the Marmara Region.

Canakkale's charm lies in its location. Strolling along the waterfront promenade reveals beautiful views and a much-appreciated sea breeze. David makes a quick stop at the Kale Fortress, which is open to the public and features rows upon rows of antique canons and other military memorabilia. Near the Castle is an enormous reproduction of the Trojan Horse. It was used as a prop in the 2004 movie “Troy featuring Brad Pitt. After filming, it was donated to the city of Canakkale and has been on public display ever since.

Now for the food...After an eventful first day exploring Canakkale, David goes to a popular seafood restaurant in town, Yalova Situated in the old fish market, Restaurant Yalova serves up fresh local seafood with a beautiful view of the Dardenelles Strait. Make sure you reserve a table on the rooftop to enjoy the water views with your meal.

The next day, David stops by Kavala for a casual seafood meal in this taverna-style restaurant. Kavala is located right along the main pedestrian boulevard near the ferry station. Like many local eateries, Kavala serves fresh local seafood along with traditional Turkish dishes. Another popular restaurant in town is Hangover Cafe Bar, which is always packed! Hangover serves up casual food and has a great ambiance, especially for 20 and 30-somethings. It features both indoor and outdoor dining. The terrace is especially charming if you plan to enjoy Canakkale’s balmy nights.

We hope you enjoyed our video about what to see and eat in Canakkale. If you have something to add, leave a question or comment below!

IS TURKISH FOOD GOOD? | Secret Food Tours Istanbul Kadikoy | Turkey Travel Vlog

Time for Turkish street food! We took a food tour in Kadikoy Istanbul with Secret Food Tours and the food we had was some of... ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —

Secret Food Tours Istanbul delivered because this was one of our favourite food tours ever and showed so much of Kadikoy!

Before we arrived in Istanbul, and well before we came to Turkey, we were told how good Turkish food was. It's difficult to know what the best Turkish street food to order is though, it can be a bit overwhelming in the Kadikoy district particularly because of the lack of English.. which we actually love though.

After a bit of research on the best Turkey food tours we found Secret Food Tours in Istanbul, but this one was specifically in the Kadikoy area on the Asia Side - where we're staying as we showed in our last few vlogs. Anyway, the food we tried was insanely good, so we can confirm that Turkish street food / the food of Turkey is next level. Everyone was right haha.

You can see the other food tours we've taken around the world, 15+ featured in this playlist:

We’re Marianne and Chris, a married couple from the UK. After some life changing events we decided that life was just too short. We sold all our belongings, bought an old Campervan & rented our house to travel full time. The aim is to attempt to visit every country in the world in either our van or with a backpack. We started videoing our travels for our family and then decided it was a wonderful way to document and share our adventures.

Our latest adventure started in January 2020 when we left the UK in an attempt to drive our van all the way around the world. Let the adventures continue.
