After a rough drive, we found this beautiful hidden gem in Guinea Bissau.Guinea-Bissau is a tropical country on West Africa’s Atlantic coast that’s known for national parks and wildlife. The forested, sparsely populated Bijagós archipelago is a protected biosphere reserve. Its main island, Bubaque, forms part of the Orango Islands National Park, a habitat for saltwater hippos. ????We Wandered In The Bush & Found African Animist Shrine Ceremony! #GuineaBissau Africa Ep 12.

This beach is called Piquil Beach in Biombo or Praia Piquil

I researched about the religion practiced here and found out that a good number of people practice animism. Animism is the believe that places, objects and creatures all posses a distinct spiritual essence. In this community this sprit is called ira.

This is Guinea Bissau, Africa You Don't See on TV #GuineaBissau Africa Ep. 6

Guinea-Bissau is a tropical country on West Africa’s Atlantic coast that’s known for national parks and wildlife. On the mainland, the capital, Bissau, is a port with Portuguese colonial buildings in its old city center.

The distance from Jegue border to Bissau is about 130km. It takes about 3 and half hours drive due to the poor state of the roads. Which is surprising because along the way there's about 5police stops where you will have to pay for the road at every stop. It's also advisable to have a 4 wheel drive especially during rainy season.

So let's talk a little bit about Guinea Bissau. Did you know that Guinea Bissau official language is Portuguese but is spoken by only about 11% of the population. The local dialect is creole
2. The main form of foreign exchange is Cashew nuts. Some people call it the cashew coast of Africa
3. 80% of the population is employed in Agriculture with cashewnuts be in my the major two ethnic groups being Fulani being at 28% and balanta at 23%,

Notre découverte inattendue d’une capitale africaine atypique - BISSAU - T. AFRIQUE ep.21

Broke, Stranded At Night In Africa's WORST Border Crossing! #GuineaBissau Africa Ep2

The border post to Bissau is marked by this rope with polythene bags. As much as it may look old, with polythene full of dust,is the toughest Border to cross.
Here is what happened. Remember a friend had come to pick us at the border? I was left in the car for too long. Several hours later Mansa came and told me we needed to pay some fee for the van. We did. After getting the van cleared,we walked to the other office to get our passports stamped. At this office the amount of money needed kept shifting. How much do you have? How much are you willing to pay and so on. This was too much for us and we asked they give us back our passports we go back to Gambia but they held them until when the border was closing that's when they returned them .
I feel this was deliberate so that we could be stranded. The border between Senegal and Guinea Bissau closes at about 6 or 7 pm. So driving from the Guinea Bissau to Senegal border we found it was already closed. They got us! So eventually I convinced Mansa we drive back to the Bissau border and give them the money they wanted and we cross. This time they were asking for $170.
The amount of money they demanded just kept increasing each time we would ask them. Dejected! We decided to drive back close to the Senegal side to just sleep in the van. then go to the Guinea Bissau consulate the next morning. This place is a Village. There's no hotel or any sort of accomodation. So our only option was to sleep in the van.

Remember last night we were left with only 100CFA which is about 20cents. In order to drive to Senegal we were required to pay a 3500CFA which we didn't have as there is no Forex Bureau at the border. We were literally stranded. Sometimes the Universe sends you destiny helpers when you least expected. The immigration boss sympathize with our situation and gave us his car for free to go sort ourselves in Zuiguinchor. Can you believe this?
Truly Senegal is the land of Teranga which means hospitality. There's something special about Senegalese people and I love them.Help me thank the immigration boss who saved us when we were stranded. Thank you Sir!
So we got to the Bissau immigration, they tried to come up with other costs but we told them we would go back to the consulate. They then stamped our passports and let us in.

Are We Really Welcome? Gatecrashing A Wedding In Bissau. #GuineaBissau Africa Ep.5

Bissau, Guinea Bissau Africa Ep.5. Gatecrashing A Traditional African Wedding in Guinea Bissau.

In the last episode while doing a random drive in Bissau city, we came across a group of people dancing in the streets. We later learnt that it was a wedding. In order to experience the culture and way of life we asked if we could follow them to wherever they were going. They agreed!

In this episode I'd love you to fillow us gatecrash a wedding in Bissau. ????????. What a life!

So we met them at the ministry of Justice building of which I guess the registrar of marriages is here.
The dancers were jamming to the beats as some people lay pieces of cloth at the entrance of the building for the newly Weds to walk on their way out.
The couple are escorted to their car with the dancers. Before they leave the dancers randomly sing and dance to passersby and the people around and they give the dancers some donations.
We then followed the couple to the man's house.
At the man's house there's more music dance and food. The couple get to the house where there's a full table set with food and cake. There's a few minutes of speeches before they can eat. Meanwhile on the outside the dancers and the people gathered will be eating.
Once the couple finishes eating , they leave the man's house to the woman's home. They are accompanied by the dancers and other community members.
At the woman's home, there's more dance, music and prayers. More like what happened at the man's house.I couldn't eat at the woman's home as I was already full. Eventually anyone can leave at their own pleasure.

This was definitely a beautiful experience worth following or gatecrashing. Despite the language barrier, they were extremely kind and delighted to have us.
