The Holy City of Teotihuacan ???????? Mexico Pre-Hispanic World Heritage Site

The holy city of Teotihuacan ('the place where the gods were created') is situated some 50 km north-east of Mexico City. Built between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D., it is characterized by the vast size of its monuments – in particular, the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, laid out on geometric and symbolic principles. As one of the most powerful cultural centres in Mesoamerica, Teotihuacan extended its cultural and artistic influence throughout the region, and even beyond. ( )

Teotihuacán Pyramids 2022: Best Mexico City Day Trip

Teotihuacán is the best day trip from Mexico City. We share tips and tricks to make the most of your time exploring the pyramids. Don't want to mess with the public bus? Book a private van here:

In this video, we visit the Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon, Temple of Quetzalcóatl, and everything in between along the Avenue of the Dead.

First and foremost, can you still climb the pyramids of Teotihuacán? No. They closed the pyramids during Covid and decided to keep them closed to preserve them. We visited in the end of May 2022 and we asked a few different people and they all gave us the same answer: they have no intention of opening the pyramids back up. It's disappointing, but understandable.

The pyramids of Teotihuacán are about an hour outside Mexico City and easily accessible via the metro and a bus. You don't have to speak Spanish to use public transit in Mexico City - everything is pretty easy to figure out. And it's SO cheap. If you have questions about making the trip after watching the video, ask us in the comments. We'll help you through it.

There are guides available once you enter Teotihuacán, and they may be worthwhile. However, just know that nobody, including historians, really knows much about Teotihuacán. They're all just guessing. You can learn everything anybody knows in about 30 minutes at Museo Antropología's Teotihuacán exhibit.

Here are the tips we have to make sure you have a good experience while exploring the Pyramids of Teotihuacán.

1. Bring water - you can't buy it in the park
2. Bring snacks - also not available anywhere
3. Bring sunscreen - you're completely exposed the entire time
4. Bring cash - you'll need at least 200 pesos per person ($10 USD) for the metro, bus, and admission, plus small bills if you want to buy any souvenirs
5. Wear comfortable shoes - you walk A LOT
6. Beware of open-toed shoes - there are LOTS of fire ants along the Avenue of the Dead
7. There are three bathrooms, located at the Pyramids of the Moon and Sun, and at the Temple of Quetzalcóatl
8. Be nice to the vendors. They're nice and chill. Just smile and say no thank you.
9. Be there when it opens to avoid the crowds and the heat

We definitely recommend you visit the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. They're still worth it even if you can't climb the pyramids. The site is massive, the ruins are impressive, and it's so cool to be in a place with such history (even if we don't really know what that history is - it's amazing).

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

How We Visited the Teotihuacan Pyramids from Mexico City | Teotihuacan Archeological Site

The Teotihuacan archeological site is about 50km (30 miles) north of Mexico City and is definitely worth the trip. It's the most popular attraction in Mexico and is incredibly impressive. We started by climbing the Templo de Quetzalcoatl (Temple of the Snake) when they opened at 8am and had the entire temple to ourselves. Then we walked about 3km (2 miles) from one end of the ancient city to the other exploring the ruins of the homes and admiring the stunning Primada del Sol (Pyramid of the Sun) along the way. The end of the walk brought us to the dramatic Piramida de la Luna (Pyramid of the Moon).

Climbing the Pyramid of the Sun - Teotihuacan - Mexico City Mexico - UNESCO World Heritage Site

After taking the bus from Mexico City to Teotihuacan, we walked to the Pyramid of the Sun and climbed the steps to the top. The ancient city of Teotihuacan is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the largest of the two pyramids at the site, the Pyramid of the Sun, is the 3rd largest pyramid in the world, and is believed to have been built around 200 AD.

This is video of our walk out to, and climb up the great pyramid. If you are visiting Mexico City, don't miss this on your trip, only about 25 minutes outside the city, and easily accessible by bus. Hope you enjoy, and will consider subscribing for more content on it's way!

Climbing up the Pyramid of the Sun,Teotihuacan,Mexico - Maya Trip ep53 - Travel vlog calatorie

Pyramid of the Sun, large pyramid in the ancient city of Teotihuacán, Mexico, that was built about 100 CE and is one of the largest structures of its type in the Western Hemisphere. The pyramid rises 216 feet (66 metres) above ground level, and it measures approximately 720 by 760 feet (220 by 230 metres) at its base.
The main attraction of the Sun Temple is that visitors can climb the 248 steps to the top of the 66-meter pyramid. From the summit there are wonderful views over the Avenue of the Dead, which leads to the younger Pyramid of the Moon.

Pyramids of Teotihuacan Day & Night-We Climb 3rd Tallest Pyramid in the World. Piramides Teotihuacán

A UNESCO World Heritage site near Mexico City, and home to the 3rd tallest pyramid in the world, we explore Teotihuacan above and below during the day and night! Plus a visit to La Gruta for one of the most unique places for lunch, a cave near the ruins! We also had an opportunity to place a symbolic candle deeper in a beautiful and serene section of the cave. Finally, we return to Teotihuacan in the evening for Experiencia Nocturna, an exclusive opportunity to see the Pyramid of the Sun painted with animation in its original colors.

This week, our RV Mexico adventures brought us from Valle de Bravo to the outskirts of Mexico City in the town of Teotihuacan. Apparently named after something famous nearby, the town is a great jumping off point for exploration of the area, and a 5 minute drive to the pyramids and ruins. We stayed at (again with the coincidental naming) Teotihuacan RV and Trailer Park for almost two weeks, and loved the walkable surrounding area and our gracious host, Mina. She helped us translate, get our laundry picked up, and even secured our tickets for Experiencia Nocturna (which is a “hard ticket” event normally requiring pickup of the tickets in advance of the evening). Thanks, Mina!

If not staying nearby, Teotihuacan is easily accessible from Mexico City by frequent and inexpensive direct bus service. Admission to the ruins (including two museums) is only 80 pesos per person, a great value compared to other cultural and historical sites in Mexico. We opted to download the free SmartGuide app ( which offers an audio tour that can be downloaded in advance to save your roaming data! The included map, text, and audio tour were more than helpful navigating the site, so we declined a tour guide and still felt that we could cover the major areas in a day. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, sunscreen, and a hat if a hot day on your visit. There is little shade throughout, but the museums are both very nicely air conditioned. ????

SPOILER ALERT: Experiencia Nocturna is incredible, and we should have done that BEFORE visiting Teotihuacan during the day. You learn so much about the history, pyramids, people and culture during the event. With an excellent designed app (they provide a specially configured iPod), augmented reality, and synchronized audio in a choice of several languages, Experiencia Nocturna is a can’t miss if you plan to visit Teotihuacan.

Climbing the Pyramid Teotihuacan

This pyramid is called Teotihuacan and it's located in Central Mexico. The origin of these builders are still a mystery and the identity of the builders are still in debate as the original Aztecs (Mexicas) have said that they found these structures and rebuilt them to their original shape.

Who do you think originally built Teotihuacan?

Climbing The Pyramid Of The Sun In Teotihuacán

Climbing the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacán is one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico. It's a historical wonder of Teotihuacán and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Climb the Pyramids with us at Teotihuacan, Mexico

Join us as we visit Teotihuacan and climb the massive Pyramid of the Sun (the 3rd largest Pyramid in the world) followed by the Pyramid of the Moon. Visit the interesting Museum and wander down the Avenue of the Dead until our surprising find at the Temple of the Feathered Serpent.

I've always wanted to visit the Mexican Pyramids at Teotihuacan (about 50km from Mexico City). It is an ancient Mexican site that was populated for almost 900 years from 200BC to 700AD.

You can do day tours/trips from Mexico City but we wanted to be there when the gates opened at 8am. We booked a hotel near the site and arrived at 8.05pm

Travel Mexico - Climbing the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan

Teotihuacan is one of the most amazing known ancient sites on the whole Earth. It sits in the heart of Mexico, about an hour north of Mexico City. The site is most famous for the Pyramid of the moon, and the pyramid of the sun, which rivals in size with the great pyramid in Egypt. With more than 2km of ruins to explore and pyramids to climb, its certainly an amazing and fun place to explore with so many cool sights to see. In this Video we embark on the great climb to the peak of the pyramid of the sun.

Climbing the Pyramids of Teotihuacan

Just outside of Mexico City are the amazing ruins of Teotihuacan, which features two amazing pre-Aztec Pyramids. This was our first of the many ruins we would visit on our 2-month trip to the Americas (Mexico and South America). The highlight for us was climbing to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun, which is one of the few ruins in the Americas that you can still climb.

Teotihuacan Pyramids, Mexico - POV commentary climb up & down Pyramid of the Sun

Common knowledge amongst those who know me is my fear of heights. Its not absolutely debilitating but it does greatly hinder. Having tackled the smaller Pyramid of the Moon 30 minutes prior, which was super scary as it was super steep with massive steps and small landings and no breaks, I guess the next big deal was to tackle the one everyone came here to climb - Pyramid of the Sun.

In the end the climb was OK with some scary bits where there was nothing to hang on to, but the steps were in decent state and the weather was not windy.

Make sure you climb these two amazing pyramids when you're next in Mexico City.

Exploring An Empty TEOTIHUACÁN, The Incredible Pyramids of MEXICO ????????

I explore Teotihuacán, what was Mexico’s biggest ancient city and capital of its largest pre-Hispanic empire, including the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. I then take a trip to one of Mexico and Latin America's most renowned pilgrimage sites, the Basilica de Guadalupe.
