#Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, India. It has an extent of 344.44 sq. km with four ranges namely Sulthan Bathery, Muthanga, Kurichiat, and Tholpetty. A variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer, and tiger are found there. There are also quite a few unusual birds in the sanctuary. In particular, peafowl tends to be very common in the area. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. It is bestowed with lush green forests and rich wildlife. This wildlife area houses some of the rare and endangered species of both flora and fauna.
Established in 1973, the sanctuary is now an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It is bounded by a protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka in the northeast, and on the southeast by Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is part of the #Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The Western Ghats, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster.

Muthanga wildlife sanctuary was brought under the Project Elephant in the year 1991-92. It is considered to be the second-largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and bio-geographically one of the richest tracts of peninsular India. Here you can see semi-evergreen, moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests.
Wayanad wildlife sanctuary consists of four ranges – Sulthan bathery, Kurichyad, Muthanga, and Tholpetty, of which Muthanga and Tholpetty ranges are mostly targeted by the tourists’ to Wayanad. They are separated by plantations. These are two eco-tourism centers in Wayanad wildlife sanctuary.

Muthanga wildlife Sanctuary is situated around 15 km from Bathery, Wayanad district in Kerala. This forest is connected with Nagarhole and Bandipur Tiger reserves in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu. So, the animal density is high in this forest. Today we are going for a bus safari in this forest. Then, we are staying in a lodge near to the forest. This stay facility is very unique place and much interesting for wildlife enthusiasts because, we can see wild elephants infront of the stay. The name of the property is Tusker inn lodge.

Established in 1973, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the north east and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio-diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest region. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms and has been declared a Project Elephant site.
Elephants roam freely here and tigers are sighted occasionally as well. Various species of deer, monkeys and birds also live here. The Reserve is also home to a profusion of birds, butterflies and insects. The trees and plants in the sanctuary are typical of the south Indian moist deciduous forests and semi-evergreen forests. A drive along the road to Muthanga and further offers chances to watch these roaming animals. Elephant rides can be arranged by the Forest Department.

Located around 16 km away from Sulthan Bathery, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, popularly known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is a rainforest wich connects Nagarhole and Bandipur parks in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu. Spread over an area of 345 sq km, the sanctuary is an abode of rich flora and fauna.
Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1973, the Muthanga wildlife sanctuary was brought under the Project Elephant in the year 1991-92. It is considered to be the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and bio-geographically one of the richest tracts of peninsular India. Here you can see semi-evergreen, moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests.
The moist deciduous forest of Muthanga is blessed with varieties of trees and other plants. You can sight here maruthi, karimaruthi, rosewood, venteak, vengal etc. Go and get excited with the sight of wild animal like elephant, tiger, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs etc. The sanctuary is also blessed with its endless population of birds like peacocks, babblers, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, jungle fowls etc.
Wayanad wildlife sanctuary consist of four ranges – Sulthan bathery, Kurichyad, Muthanga and Tholpetty, of which Muthanga and Tholpetty ranges are mostly targeted by the tourists’ to Wayanad. They are separated by plantations. These are two eco-tourism centres in Wayanad wildlife sanctuary. The eco-tourism in these places helps to create conservation awareness in the minds of the travellers and to well maintain the sanctuary and its premises. The eco-tourism programmes consist of elephant camp visit, jeep safari, trekking, bird watching, tribal folklore etc.

Muthanga
Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad attracts thousands of tourists round the year with its lush green forest that promises endearing views and experiences hard to forget for years. The second-largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala, Muthanga consists of tropical moist dry deciduous, evergreen forests, bamboo thickets, and plantations, and is home to many varieties of birds and animals. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms and has been declared a Project Elephant site.
Elephants roam freely here and tigers are sighted occasionally as well. Various species of deer, monkeys, and birds also live here. A drive along the road to Muthanga and further offers chances to watch these roaming animals. Best season to visit: December to May. The highlighted ecotourism programme of Wayanad is the two-hour jeep safari conducted by the forest department in the tourist zone of the jungle. With the help of an expert guide and a driver, you can take on the wild. You would not know how time flies as the jeep bumps along the forest trail, revealing stunning spectacles every now and then. Herds of elephants and gaurs are a usual sight in the trail, while the sight of big cats comes as a bonanza. Jeep safaris are conducted in the morning and evening when animal activity in the tourism zone is relatively high.
You need to hire jeeps from the entrance for the safari.
Nellarachal
Nellarachal is a village located on the banks of the Karappuzha Dam, surrounded on three sides by water. It 16KM away from Bathery town. Nellarachal is a place where many people come to enjoy their evenings. Due to the lockdown, the number of tourists is very low. The beach is bustling with children and adults alike. Nellarachal is a place where you can enjoy beautiful sunset views. There is a point of view where you can see the sunset views more clearly. But now that part is the cantonment zone. Therefore, there is no access to it now. Views from the other side of the shore. I'm waiting for the sunset to see the kids fishing.
Nellarachal village is also the catchment area of the Karappuzha Dam. The Karappuzha Dam is a combination of nature and adventure tourism. The Karappuzha Dam, which was started in 1977 and completed in 2004 for irrigation purposes, is now a tourist's paradise in Wayanad. The dam was built at Karappuzha, a tributary of the Kabini River that we saw yesterday.
There are many small islands in Dominica. Today, the islands are home to a wide variety of birds and are also a major bird sanctuary.
Nellarchala village and its surrounding areas are a part of Responsible Tourism in the Wayanad District. Wayanad has been recognized as the best Responsible Tourism destination in the country for the year 2016-17. This Wayanad Tourism Package takes visitors to tribal life. These villages are a great response to responsible tourism, which operates in such a way that tourism brings income to the villagers as well. Many ancient tools and implements used by the tribes can still be seen in the villages. Fragrant eucalyptus was once widely grown in Wayanad. There are many eucalyptus distilleries in these villages. The village of Nellarachal is also famous for its pottery and other caste-based occupations.
