NOUMEA: Abandoned historic (1870s) French Fort Tereka (New Caledonia) #travel #newcaledonia

Noumea, New Caledonia, Pacific Ocean - forgotten French Fort Tereka, the abandoned Fort Tereka in New Caledonia. Let's tour the forgotten French Fort Tereka, the abandoned Fort Tereka in New Caledonia, located just outside its capital city of Noumea. Let's look closely at the canons of Fort Tereka in Noumea, New Caledonia, from the 1870s.
Fort Tereka is a secluded spot often completely omitted from the usual tourist trail in Nouméa, New Caledonia. A trip to Tereka Fort offers the opportunity to explore an abandoned 19th century military fort of Tereka, complete with canons and tunnels, as well as stunning panoramic views. Built by the French in 1878 Tereka Fort was designed to fire upon an approaching invasion attempt during the Franco-Prussian war (although such an invasion seems very unlikely from today’s point of view). Take time to soak up the view, and explore the tunnels and gunpowder holdings. Visitors can access the fort by road, or walk up through Nouméa’s only dry forest from Keundu Beach.
