Bikini Atoll in Majuro, Marshall Islands

Bikini Atoll, sometimes known as Eschscholtz Atoll between the 1800s and 1946, is a coral reef in the Marshall Islands consisting of 23 islands surrounding a 594.1 km2 central lagoon. The atoll's inhabitants were relocated in 1946, after which the islands and lagoon were the site of 23 nuclear tests by the United States until 1958.

The atoll is at the northern end of the Ralik Chain, approximately 850 kilometres northwest of the capital Majuro. Three families were resettled on Bikini island in 1970, totaling about 100 residents. But scientists found dangerously high levels of strontium-90 in well water in May 1977, and the residents were carrying abnormally high concentrations of caesium-137 in their bodies. They were removed in 1980. The atoll is occasionally visited today by divers and a few scientists, and is occupied by a handful of caretakers.

USAG Kwajalein Atoll - A Place Like No Other || Aerial Highlights

USAG-KA is located in the Marshall Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. While being key for US national security, its remoteness and location allow for many unique times in your not-so-typical 9-5pm job. Please enjoy some of the memories that I have collected over the past couple years while living on this amazing two-mile-long piece of coral.

All drone shots of Kwaj were taken before the Army drone ban (pre-summer 2017).

2019 SHORT TRIP TO MAJURO IN THE REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS

It was a short and unexpected trip to the RMI, but we managed to get some cool footage. As we were dumping some of the footage, they were not done downloading...(sigh) long story short, we lost most of the footage. It is unfortunate, but we still plan on going back to Majuro soon. Sailing MERCY MISSION in Marshall Islands! EP76

Sailing MERCY MISSION in Marshall Islands!
While in the Marshall Islands.
Travel to the outer islands has been banned due to Covid 19 restrictions, even though the Marshall Islands has no cases of the virus.
However, a broken down ferry means an opportunity to help out the outer atolls and gives us chance to sail further afield .

????‍❤️‍????About us :
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel!

Ebeye Island Drone Tour Marshall Islands

Some aerial footage of Ebeye I got awhile back and wanted to share. Shout out to Deo Keju for finding a great Marshallese song to go with it. The beauty of this place is truly breath taking. Glad to share with you. If this country ever were to develop its tourism industry I’m sure they would have great success.

Song: Come, Come Again by Jabubu III

From my friend Deo:
Title of the song is “Come, Come Again” - it’s a song “showing off” of memories and reality of the islands/home place … “you recall the beauty of the local music,” beauty and great things of our home … “come, come again” and re-listen, re-learn, re-live.

When the tide is high...

Iokwe!

This video is meant to show some of the fun things one can do in Majuro during the high tide. Included in this video are jumping off the bridge, watching the waves from the seawall and pier, and swimming in the ocean. I've also included some clips for what happens when the tide is REALLY high.

The song used in the film is Endless Motion by bensound.com

JUMPING OFF THE MAJURO BRIDGE

Join me and the Delap SDA Gang as we push our fears aside in some spectacular jumps off of the Majuro Bridge in the Marshall Islands.

The Bridge is an iconic landmark on the Majuro Atoll for several reasons. It is the highest piece of land on the island, standing at only ~22 feet or 6.5 meters above sea level it is the furthest you can travel in a taxi before being charged more than $1 for you ride, and it is a great place for thrill seekers to let loose on this tiny island paradise.

Catamaran Sailing Shipwrecks in Majuro EP68

Catamaran Sailing Shipwrecks in Majuro
Saiing couple explore shipwrecks
This week we leave downtown Majuro and head out to explore two anchorages on the North side of the lagoon. After a quick six mile sail we stop at Enamanet where we unpack our dive gear and jump into the crystal clear lagoon waters. We enjoy our time exploring a shipwreck, a sunken plane and two helicopters.

We use our Coltri dive compressor for the first time and spend time refilling dive tanks, in between making our first batch of kambucha and taking Daisy the drone for a test flight.

After a very enjoyable few days we up-anchor and travel the additional 2 miles west to Eneko. Here we snorkel the shallow reef and spend time chilling out with a laid back octopus.
A old fishing boat was sunk near one of the moorings, so we roll in for a dive with Curtis and Julie from 'Manna' and Andrew and Alex from 'Offshore Haven'.

A traditional canoe anchors in front of us so we go and check it out and get Daisy up for a good look.

Sailing to remote Atoll and refused entry EP70

Sailing to remote Atoll and refused entry

A TRICKY Check In as The World SHUT DOWN Begins ! Majuro to Maloelap EP70
After 6 weeks in Majuro we utilise our outer atoll cruising permits and head north to Maloelap atoll to do some exploring . The journey starts out quite lively with twenty five knot winds on the beam and a confused sea state which makes life a tad uncomfortable.
We have a busy night sail with a few squalls keeping interesting and not conducive to a nights sleep for those off-watch.
Over the course of the night the wind drops off , so we motor the last couple of hours to the pass on the south side of Maloelap Atoll.

We head up to Taroa Island on the north east corner of the atoll and wait for another 35 knot squall to pass before putting the hook down in front of the village.

Later in the day we are greeted by the local policeman who comes to the back of DT in one of the villages long boats. There was an announcement from the prime minister that morning banning all international travel to the Marshall islands. Confusion abounds ... Can we stay? Do we have to turn back ?

What We Do All Day Rip Riding

On Likiep Atoll in the Marshall Islands, as at most coral atolls I imagine, the currents can really whip in and out of the lagoon between the small islands that make up the atoll. One of our fun things to do is beach the dinghy on the lee side of the island and walk around towards the windward side. Then we swim into the current in our snorkel gear and let the current push us through the pass at a screaming 2 to 4 knots kicking only to influence the direction we re swept or to temporarily hold position. One really fun thing to do is grab onto a big rock and see how long you can hold on while the current pulls at you. I hope this video gives you the sensation of traveling on. Remember, all this motion is by the force of the current.

This is a good sample of What We Do All Day

Majuro Peace Park, Marshall Islands

It is located about 5 miles from the airport in Majuro. This memorial commemorates the Japanese soldiers who fought and died in the Pacific during WWII.
