The arts and crafts of Bhutan that represents the exclusive spirit and identity of the Himalayan kingdom are defined as the art of Zorig Chosum, which means the “thirteen arts and crafts of Bhutan”; the thirteen crafts are carpentry, painting, paper making, blacksmithery, weaving, sculpting and many other crafts.

You would be able to see the various Printed shirt, Authentic handicraft product of Bhutan.

These days, with the help of the internet, we don't see people using much of the postal services instead we are more comfortable communicating via emails using different internet service providers. Bhutan has been a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) since 1969 and in 1983 they joined the Asian-Pacific Postal Union.

The internet was introduced lately after 1998 and letter system in Bhutan changed drastically.

Things to see in Thimphu Memorial Chorten, Farmers Market, Souvenir Shops & Permit Extension process

Hello travel enthusiasts, as you know I am in Thimpu, Bhutan and its my day 2. We started with our visit to Immigration office at Thimphu to get the extension of our permit and finally we got it on day two. From there we planned to visit the best places in Thimpu for tourists. Thimphu has a lot of tourists spots and we have covered Buddha Dordenma and Tashichho Dzong the two most popoular, iconic places to visit in Thimphu Bhutan in our previous video. So lets see the other famous tourist places to visit in the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu.

In this video I have shared my experience with permit extension and I have explored a local market from where you can buy great souvenirs. I also visited Memorial Chorten a place of worship where Indian PM Modi ji also visited when he was in Bhutan. So watch this video till the end and do share your views

1: The Memorial Chorten of Thimphu was conceived by Thinley Norbu Rinpoche (1931–2011),according to the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It was erected in 1974 in memory of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, 3rd Druk Gyalpo, who had died in 1972. The main patron was the Druk Gyalpo's mother, Phuntsho Choden.

2: CENTENARY FARMERS MARKET : Located below the main town, near the Wang Chhu River, Thimphu’s weekend market is by far the largest domestic market for the farmers in Bhutan.Farmers come from all over the country to sell their farm products in the market. With its wide assortment of fresh and organic produce, the Farmer’s Market has become a favorite spot for tourists and a recreational place for people from all walks of life. Across a cantilever footbridge, Kuendeyling Bazaam, to the west bank is a collection of stalls selling clothing, textiles and handicrafts.

You can contact Mr. Dorji for driving you around Bhutan if you are visiting. His number is +975 1775457 , my experience with him was extremely nice. He was a perfect gentleman who ensured my safety and also made sure my experience in Bhutan was memorable.

For Hotels in Phuntsholing you can contact Sonam at +975 17865349.

Tourists shopping at Paro Bazaar in Bhutan, Walking and Shopping Artefact shops

Paro known as the gateway to Bhutan, Paro town is home to the only international airport in Bhutan.

Paro is a beautiful town, located in the Paro valley of Bhutanese Himalayas. The two main reasons behind the Paro tourism are - it is a home to Bhutan’s only international airport and the most important monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. The international airport receives flights every day from major neighbouring cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bagdogra, Kathmandu, and Bangkok, and that’s that makes it the major reason behind the boom of Paro tourism .

Beautifully painted two storied traditional houses lined on either side along the 100 meter main street was the entirety of Paro town until the recent years. Since then the town has grown laterally with modern structures over the years but the oldest street with western inspired renovated storefronts preserving the traditional aspects of the architecture still remains the charm of Paro town. The street has a series of handicraft shops and cafes serving decent coffee and international cuisine.

A leisure walk along the main street of Paro town can be a unique experience. Without the busy schedule of the tour itinerary, travelers can either choose to step inside a café and just gaze through the window to absorb the Bhutanese way of life while sipping a hot cup of coffee or they could explore the handicraft shops which have a collection of antiques and contemporary handcrafted products.

According to the Tourism Council Report, Paro district hosts the highest number of beds for tourists travelling to Bhutan. The ‘iconic tigers nest’, one of the dangerous airports, the Paro International Airport as Also because Paro is the gateway to Bhutan by air. There are also other cultural heritages that are the most popular destination resources that attribute Paro as the heart of tourism in Bhutan.

As one walk in the street of Paro, both the sides of the road are stretched with typical Bhutanese designed building that houses handicraft products. Paro district has the highest number of handicraft shops in Bhutan. These shops have outnumbered other shops like grocery, garment, and hotels. About four to five such new shops are being established every year in Paro. Thus it is a perfect destination for a shopping spree.

As tourist strolls around the small town, handicraft shops showcase assorted products such as arts and crafts, paintings, textiles, local organic Bhutanese products such as bags of red rice, local turmeric, sesames, lemongrass fragrance (which is one of the best sold out Bhutanese products), locally produced incense powers etc..
