Ep 1 Leh, Ladakh | Leh Palace | Phyang Gompa | Sindhu Ghat | Ladakhi food | Ladakh Tourism

This video is about Places to visit in Leh, Ladakh. Leh is the largest city and the capital of Ladakh. Leh is known for its stunning scenic locales, Buddhist temples and pristine environment. Leh is also known as Little Tibet or the Land of Lamas.

Ladakh was earlier part of Jammu and kashmir but now its a UnionTerritory.

We traveled to different sightseeing locations of Leh on day 1 of our tour and this video is all about things to do in Leh, Ladakh.

This Video was shot on 15th July 2023.

Below are the activities / key destinations we visited during the journey.

Leh Palace - Leh Palace also known as Lachen Palkar Palace. Leh Palace was constructed by Sengge Namgyal, A popular king of Namgyal dynasty.

There is a museum in the Leh palace which holds a rich collection of jewelry, ceremonial dresses, crowns & Tibetan thangka or paintings, which are more than 450 years old.

You will also get to see pictures and paintings associated with Ladakh and information regarding life in ladakh.

The palace comprises nine levels with over 100 rooms.

Phyang Gompa - Phyang Monastery is a Buddhist monastery located in Fiang village. It is about 20 km away from Leh Palace. Phyang got its name from the blue mountain.

Here you can see a lot of paintings on the walls that describe the life of Lord Buddha.

Phyang Monastery is a popular tourist attraction all over the world. Especially for the tourists who seek historical places. The monastery houses 100 monks.

Biggest attraction of Phyang monastery is old paintings which depict about life of Lord Buddha.

Namza Dining - This place is famous for serving traditional food of Ladakh. We had the local Ladakh food at this restaurant. Though the taste was good but restaurant was over all expensive.

Drapu - Rs 390
Kabra & Khambir - Rs 480
Yarkhandi Pulao - Rs 700

Sindhu Ghat - This ghat is named after the Sindhu river, known as Indus river.

The Indus River, originating from the Tibetan Plateau, flows through Ladakh (Demchok). Then it flows from the Ladakh range and touches the Nimmoo after this it enters Skardu (POK).

Lena Handcrafted Ladakh Pashmina - Made from the fine wool of Himalayan goats, these shawls are incredibly soft, warm, and luxurious.
Here we learnt the different processes through which the Pashmina is made.

Hall Of Fame (Leh) - Hall of Fame is considered to be an essential place that delineates the tale of great and spectacular valor of the armies and soldiers who participated in the battle of Kargil at the time of 1999.
Here once can get all the major information on the operations that are taken up by the army in Ladakh.

We missed visiting Hall of fame during the day time, I was told that if there is a big group then there is a provision of guided tour of Hall of fame.

Ep 6 Leh to Tangtse, Near Pangong Lake | Chang La pass | Ladakh

You will see our road journey from Leh to Tangtse- 35 km short of Pangong lake,

Date of video shoot: 20th July 2023.

Our previous episode ended at Nubra valley- Sumur village, Our journey from Sumur to leh Ladakh has been recorded in BTS harish bali travels, you may have a look at it there.

Below are the activities / key destinations we visited during the journey.

Kharu - we started our journey from Kharu which is around 35 km from Leh, we stop by to see the aerial view of Sakti village, which is around km from Kharu, to our surprise there was a lot of greenery which I did not see in my entire Ladakh tour uptill now. Due to paucity of time we could not visit the village, we just got a glimpse from the hilltop.

Enroute to Chang la you would get a lot of water stream, we also took a small stop to enjoy the beauty of the water stream.

Chang la - It is one of the highest motorable roads in the world, with an elevation of approximately 5,360 meters (17,590 feet) above sea level. The pass is situated on the Leh-Manali Highway, connecting the regions of Leh and Manali. Currently this is at 5th spot in highest motorable road, Umling la is at the first spot 19024 ft.

We proceeded towards the pangong tso, we came across a beautiful lake suggested by our driver, it may have been missed by us, as there are no signboard or name of that lake. As our driver was aware about that lake, we did not see any one else there, we also find a cafe, where we had late lunch - Rs 150 Veg thali - additional charges for extra servings.
The scenic view while approaching the pangong tso was get better & better, we saw the Cloud movement from our naked eyes, Water stream flowing across the road.

Tangtse - Distance from Leh is around 125 km. We stayed at Chang la Queen Resort & Restaurant - Rs 2200 for double occupancy. In this area the light is available for limited hours.

We hope you enjoyed the video.

Ep 2 Chitrakoot to Kalinjar fort to Banda to Mahoba | Bharatkoop | Neelkanth Temple | Bundelkhand

Chitrakoot is about 225 km away from Lucknow and 295 km away from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Its one of the most famous religious place of our country.

Just in case if you have missed watching our previous episode, please check that out EP- 1- Chitrakoot tour.

In this video you will see our road journey from Chitrakoot to Kalinjar fort to Banda to Mahoba.

This video was shot on 5th April 2023, below are the activities we did throughout the day.

We started our day from Arogya Dham, Chitrakoot.
Tariff Rs 5500 with GST for double occupancy. Stay at Arogya dham was very good, though the tariff seems high but this place can easily accommodate 4 to 5 people.

Bharat Koop - It is a place known for its temple and well. According to the epic Ramayana, It is said when Shree Bharat came to know that Shree Ram had gone into exile.

He collected sacred water of all the rivers with him so that Lord Rama could become King of Ayodhya with ritual ceremony. It's also believed that taking a bath in this well is the same as taking a bath in the holiest pilgrimage destinations of India.

Kalinjar Fort - This fort was built by the Chandelas which represents a grand architecture of the reign of the Chandela dynasty. There are many buildings and temples inside this fort. One of the main attractions of this fort is the Neelkanth Temple which is built inside the fort. Statues of Lord Shiva, Kaal Bhairav, Ganesh, Nandi and other gods are carved on the stones on the way to the temple.
Ticket: Rs 25 per person

Bhuragarh Fort - We also visited this fort which is located in Banda. You will see this fort video on our 2nd channel Harish Bali Travels.

BTS Ep 3 Chitrakoot to Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh
Link:

Bode Ram Halwai & Son's - This is a 194 year old sweet shop located in Katra, Banda. We had the famous sweets here.
Sohan Halwa: Rs 540 for 1 kg

Bambeshwar Temple - The main deity of this temple is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is believed Rishi Bamdev lived and worshiped in this hill and it is believed that he established Shiva mandir on the hill.

Kolkata to Chardham by Road || part-1 || Yamunotri

October 2019

Mahaprasthaner pathe (Road to heaven)
This book I am talking about was not a mythology scripture, but a nice way of relating a place in the Himalayas with Indian mythology and created an excellent visual in a child’s mind. Then I was 12 years old. I could visualize the place, the stony pathway, the Saraswati River, Bhim pool (Bridge built by Bhima) almost all of it.Today after seeing the place I have no doubt that this novel is still one of the best travelogues. Unfortunately written in Bengali and none thought of ever translating it. Written at a time when there was no roads, helicopters, mad rush of tourists in the Himalayas. No plastic, no dust, no noise of bulldozers, trying to make road for more tourist. I read the same book again before I set my journey. It was an effort to match my childhood visualization with the realities of the Himalayas today. I always wanted to to travel to the foothills of Satopanth Glacier & Neelkanth mountain to see that “Road to Heaven”. But first thing first. Let me tell you the story from beginning.

Chardham Wiki definition
The Char Dham (four abodes) is a set of four pilgrimage sites in India. Vaishnavite Hindus believe that visiting these sites helps achieve Moksha (salvation). It comprises Badrinath, Dwaraka, Puri and Rameswaram. It is considered by Hindus that every Hindu must visit the char dhams during one's lifetime. The Char Dham as defined by Adi Shankaracharya consists of four Vaishnavite pilgrimage sites.
Another circuit of four ancient pilgrimage sites in the Indian state of Uttarakhand viz. Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath is referred to as Chota Char Dham to differentiate it from this bigger circuit of Char Dham sites.

The Plan
I have planned this journey for little over an year. Most of the itineraries in Uttarakhand starts from the holy towns of Haridwar or Rishikesh. These towns are 20 KM apart and attracts a lot of Indian and foreign tourists across the year. I had a choice to reach Haridwar or Rishikesh by train and then take a rental car to do Char Dham. Or train to Delhi and take a rental car from there. The cost would slightly vary. Delhi to Delhi can be planned for 10-11 days. Car rentals vary from 45-55 K for a comfortable 5 seater like Innova. Government is building a Char Dham highway and there is a lot of roadworks going between Rishikesh to Rudraprayag and between Rudraprayag to Uttarkashi and all the way upto Gaurikund. So if you are planning a travel in 2020, where I expect this road work to continue, keeping a day buffer is recommended. Also 10/11 days assume that you are travelling to Kedarnath shrine by helicopter from Guptakashi or Phata. If you are planning a trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath you should definitely add a day to the itinerary and it will become a 12/13 days itinerary ex Delhi or Haridwar. Car rental companies would provide you a quote based on the number of days.
For me reaching Haridwar/Rishikesh by train would have taken at least 2 nights 3 days. Unless I flew to Delhi, which I always try to avoid on a leisure trip. I have done too much flying in my life. I think flying to a new place – you miss the change. Change in landscape, vegetation profile, diversity and people. The reason it is “Incredible India” is because of its people & diversity. So there came the idea to do this whole trip (almost 5000 odd Kilometers) by car. Chandannagar to Char Dham and back. I had my mom, mother in law (i.e. both my good and bad mothers), now do not ask me which one is good or bad. That is not mannerism. Both were close to 70. And my wife and younger son (6). So total 5 members. Our car was a Mahindra XUV 500 – W10 (2013). So we could comfortably pack all our bags for this 17 nights 18 day road trip in the car boot. Didn’t need to use the carrier at all. I have a section below on Do’s and Don’ts of a long drive in India and how to prepare your car for such a long journey.

My Itinerary
Day 1: Chandannagar (Kolkata) to Varanasi(N)
Day 2: Varanasi to Agra(N)
Day 3: Agra to Haridwar(N)
Day 4: At Haridwar(N)
Day 5: Haridwar to Sayanachatti(N)
Day 6: Sayanachatti to Jankichatti (then to Yamunotri) and back to Sayanachatti(N)
Day 7: Sayanachatti to Uttarkashi(N)
Day 8: Uttarkashi to Gangotri and back to Uttarkashi(N)
Day 9: Uttarkashi to Sitapur(N)
Day 10: Sitapur to Phata (helicopter to Kedarnath) and back to Sitapur(N)
Day 11: Sitapur to Badrinath(N)
Day 12: Badrinath to Mana Village and back to Badrinath(N)
Day 13: Badrinath to Rudraprayag(N)
Day 14: Rudraprayag to Rishikesh(N)
Day 15: Rishikesh to Agra(N)
Day 16: At Agra(N)
Day 17: Agra to Varanasi(N)
Day 18: Varanasi to Chandannagar (Kolkata)
