This video was shot 3 weeks before the invasion of Ukraine. I do NOT support this war, and my thoughts go out to our friends in Ukraine. We love you.

Welcome to YAKUTSK, (SIBERIA) - AKA the WORLD'S COLDEST CITY. More than 300,000 people live here, where winter temperatures (like right now) reach as low as -55 Celsius.

I went to Yakutsk a few weeks ago with my good friend Ammar from @YesTheory. The city is so remote that we had to take a 9-hour domestic flight from Moscow to get there.

As soon as we arrived in this cold winter wonderland, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Completely frozen trees, frozen pipelines, frozen cars… frozen everything!! But underneath the layers of jackets are extremely friendly faces and warm smiles. And that’s what I came here to learn about - humanity. Who are the Yakutian people? How do they survive these brutally cold winters?

This video takes you on a 4-day journey through the world’s coldest city - Yakutsk. I think you will be quite surprised to discover that Yakutsk is actually a normal city, just like anywhere else. It just happens to be extremely cold!

Thank you to my local friends Maria #1 and Maria #2 (from @LifeinYakutia) for showing me around! And thanks to Andrey for the awesome work behind the camera. And thank YOU so much for watching — this video is really special to me and many long hours of work have gone into it.

Have a great Sunday and I’ll see you next week.

Welcome to Oymyakon, the COLDEST City in the WORLD!

Oymyakon is situated in Siberia, Russia. The settlement was started in the 1920's by reindeer herders who watered their reindeer in the thermal spring which gives the town its name, Oymyakon Water that doesn't freeze.

Around 500 people are living in Oymyakon but to be honest it's more about surviving than living.
The average temperature in the colder months is -40 degrees Fahrenheit, there are only 3 warmer months, with temperatures averaging 50 degrees Fahrenheit and the record low was recorded in 1923 when temperatures dropped to -96.

The houses don't have plumbing because the water would freeze in the pipes, so toilets are simple pits with a roof and door over them.

The village has its own heating plant that burns coal none stop to heat water, which is then pumped through the village pipework.

When outside, they have to keep their car's engine running, all the time, even when refilling at the gas station, if not, the fuel would freeze in seconds making it impossible to start again.

They have a school, to which the kids have to go every day unless temperatures drop below -58f.

Their diet is mainly meat because the ground is permanently frozen so no vegetables can be grown, this Permafrost also makes gravedigging a lengthy experience. first, they light a bonfire to defrost the ground, then dig down until the hit permafrost again, and then repeat. the process of digging a grave can take days.

There is no cell phone coverage, but that's mainly because no one has made a cell phone that can work in such a cold climate.

Even though it's the coldest town in the world and probably the hardest to live in, it is possibly the most beautiful landscape on the planet!

Welcome to Jahra, Kuwait - the city with the hottest ever recorded temperature on earth!

I went to Kuwait a few months ago, on the exact hottest day of the year, so I could see what life is like in the brutal heat!! How on earth can people survive and do their daily activities when it’s 55 degrees Celsius, or 140 degrees Fahrenheit outside? How can they eat? Sleep? Pray? Enjoy life?

I met up with my local friend, Sulaiman, and together we went on an adventure of a lifetime, from the urban city life to deep inside the desert on the Saudi border.

This is my favorite video of the year so far, and I hope you enjoy!!

Life in the coldest place on Earth - Oymyakon, Russia

I spent a week in #Oymyakon, a remote town in Russia’s Siberia which is deemed to be the world's coldest inhabited place. The lowest recorded temperature here was -72°C or -96°F. Luckily for us, when we got to Oymyakon it was only… -51°C or -60°F and I never felt THAT cold in my entire life! Watch how people brave one of the world’s most frigid and inhospitable environments as we embark on a journey to Oymyakon – the coldest place on our planet where people live all year round.

In Part 2 I explore Tomtor, the biggest village in Oymyakon region where people dig out the thick ice on a river to get drinking water. I also carried out a few experiments out in the freezing cold and turned my socks into proper boomerangs.

In Part 1 I explore Yakutsk, the capital of Yakutia and the largest city in the world built on permafrost. Here locals leave their cars in warm blankets overnight to be able to start them the next morning. After Yakuts we took the Road of Bones, a treacherous highway that leads to Oymyakon. On this road the threat of freezing to death is still real if your car breaks down. I also bumped into Brayden Drevlow and Nomad Shubnam, popular YouTubers, who’d gotten into a car accident on the Road of Bones.

THE COLDEST CITY ON EARTH | Visiting YAKUTSK - Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

We are now leaving Novosibirsk and are continuing our journey around Russia to find the ideal city where we will settle down for about a year.
We decided to fly to the city of Yakutsk, where we originally came to experience the cold, but to our surprise, there was much more than that to be seen.

As we decided to move to Russia, we chose to board the transsiberian from Moscow and visit as many cities as possible before we decide in which city we will settle down.
We will share all of our adventures throughout our videos.

Would you dare do this? (the COLDEST VILLAGE in Russia - Oymyakon)

I spent several days with the locals of a Russian village Oymyakon. Oymyakon is Russia's and World's coldest inhabited place, and I thought that the only thing people do there is survive and suffer from the Cold. I was very wrong - there's so much to do and experience!

Oymyakon (Оймякон) is a rural locality in Oymyakonsky District of the Sakha Republic, Russia, located in the Yana-Oymyakon Highlands, along the Indigirka River, 30 km northwest of Tomtor on the Kolyma Highway. By winter average temperatures, it is the coldest permanently inhabited settlement on Earth. It is named after the Oymyakon River, whose name reportedly comes from the Even word kheium, meaning unfrozen water; place where fish spend the winter.

I filmed this video when I was in Sydney in August 2014. Sydney is a spectacular city and I definitely want to go back (when I can afford it). It's very expensive but well worth a visit!

Some popular things to do in Sydney are walk the Harbour bridge, go to the Zoo and tour inside the The Sydney Opera House! Also, make sure to eat a meat pie and a sausage roll, or some kangaroo if you can handle it ;)

Read more about Sydney on my blog post here!
