Visiting Semuc Champey Guatemala | Caving (2019) Backpacking Central America

In this episode of our Backpacking Central America Series we arrive at the famous Semuc Champey in Guatemala and a short drive from the town of Lanquin.

Semuc Champey is famous for its blue natural pools, waterfalls and caves. For those feeling brave you can jump from the top of the waterfall or even the main bridge, however this is not suggested during dry season as the water levels are low.

As part of our trip we did the caving - a 1km walk & swim though pitch black caves, holding only a candle. We loved the caving but please be careful not to slip or fall from the ladders or rope climbs.

Semuc Champey means underground river in the Myan language and there is an underground river that flows under the blue natural pools. We loved this day our and would recommend this as a day trip if you are in Guatemala.

Due to the wet day - we were only able to bring our go-pro camera and apologise if some of the audio is a little quiet due to water being in the microphones.

We hope you have as much fun watching this episode at Semuc Champey as we had making it.

Thanks for watching

TRAVELLING YOGI VLOG 3: Semuc Champey, Guatemala

Join me on this surprise-filled, barefoot, map-free trek to ‘the place where the river hides under the stones’, a natural wonder in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, near the Q'eqchi' Maya town of Lanquín. 300 metres of limestone forms a naturally occurring bridge, under which the Cahabón River flows. Atop the bridge is a series of stunning, turquoise pools and natural rock slides. Way above the pools, an epic mountain-top view (Mirador). Down river, (after a tube ride through some rapids) I discover a jungle gym - in the jungle!

Feeling deep gratitude for this Path, all who have blazed these trails before me, and all the vistas yet to be discovered.

Every step, an arrival....
Breathing in, I have arrived. Breathing out, I am home.

Travelling from Antigua to Lanquin Guatemala (2019) Hostel El Retiro Lodge

In this episode we travel from the town of Antigua to Lanquin both in Guatemala. Lanquin is a wonderful village tucked in a valley in the jungles of Guatemala and is the base to visit the famous pools of Semuc Champey.

We stayed at El Retiro Lodge which is one of the best stays we have had whilst backpacking Central America. It's right on the river and there is a deep area of the river where you can swim , dive and relax next to the lodge's bar. An absolute idyllic spot. So if you fancy a beautiful spot and a reasonable price then El Retiro lodge is the place for you.
Thanks for watching and coming on this adventure with us as we TREAD the Globe.

Jungle Pools of Semuc Champey, Guatemala | Travel Video

Semuc Champey is a 300 m long limestone bridge with caves formed by series of natural pools. The Cahabon River passes under them via a tunnel. Despite the river being brown and muddy from the rain, the pools are fed by underground streams and constantly have shades of turquoise colour. I couldn’t believe such a magical place exists. A real paradise is hidden in the jungle. Because it’s so hard to get to, the pools are a quiet place, and not loud and crowded tourist attraction. It was a perfect place to relax. I was jumping from one pool to another, swimming and enjoyed every moment.

Backpacking Guatemala | Central America Travel | (Part 2) HD 1080p

Guatemala offers an incredible experience for any type of traveller. We flew into the country and began an adventure of a lifetime...

** During the trip my camera settings went all funky, which I noticed after I filmed. I am aware that some of the video footage may be over exposed, and some of the audio clips appear to sound loud, distorted, and possibly echoed. I'm fully aware of the quality of these video/audio clips, so please don't rip on me. I still wanted to share **

After our visit to Lake Atitlan, we made our way to a town called Lanquin. We then took public transit to the spectacular swimming holes known as Semuc Champey.

For our final destination on our trip, we wanted to explore the ancient mayan ruins of Tikal. Tikal is the second largest mayan city in the world, and we had a lot of fun walking the beautiful site.

Guatemala is an incredible country. I would love to revisit some day soon, and explore the many different areas and hidden gems that the country has to offer.

CENTRAL AMERICA BACKPACKING TRIP | Ep2: Belize & Guatemala

I went solo backpacking around Central America for 6 weeks, travelling through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

This 3 part documentary series shows the entire backpacking experience.

In this second video I head inland through Belize to San Ignacio, exploring the Caracol ruins by jeep. Then I crossed the border into Guatemala, staying in the beautiful town of Flores to visit the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Next stop was the beautiful Semuc Champey, stunning waterfalls in the jungle-filled mountains. I stayed at the Zephyr Lodge in Lanquin which was a fun but dangerous place for your bank account.

Backpacking Guatemala - A Couple of Travellers Episode 14

This is the penultimate episode of Andy & Steph's big adventure. Part 14 of the series brings them to Guatemala, beginning in the magnificent archaeological site of Tikal.

After visiting the Mayan ruins they head south to Rio Dulce, experiencing the worlds only hot waterfall before exploring a pirate castle and derelict hotel.

Back on the road they head to the colonial city of Antigua to climb the Acatenango volcano. Here they push themselves to reach the summit for an awe inspiring view of the exploding Volcan de Fuego (Fire Volcano). After recovering from the volcanic climb they experience a Guatemalan football match and even manage to get photographed for the local paper.

The next destination on their trip of Guatemala brings them to Semuc Champey. Plenty of adventure in store here as they explore blue lagoons, swimming through darkened caves and go on a beer fuelled tubing trip down the river.

Their final stop is a unique hostel called Free Cerverza (Free Beer) in the beautiful Lake Atitlan. Beers are a plenty at this eco-hostel before trying a cliff jump.

#Vlog Guatemala - Semuc Champey
