Visiting Semuc Champey Guatemala | Caving (2019) Backpacking Central America

In this episode of our Backpacking Central America Series we arrive at the famous Semuc Champey in Guatemala and a short drive from the town of Lanquin.

Semuc Champey is famous for its blue natural pools, waterfalls and caves. For those feeling brave you can jump from the top of the waterfall or even the main bridge, however this is not suggested during dry season as the water levels are low.

As part of our trip we did the caving - a 1km walk & swim though pitch black caves, holding only a candle. We loved the caving but please be careful not to slip or fall from the ladders or rope climbs.

Semuc Champey means underground river in the Myan language and there is an underground river that flows under the blue natural pools. We loved this day our and would recommend this as a day trip if you are in Guatemala.

Due to the wet day - we were only able to bring our go-pro camera and apologise if some of the audio is a little quiet due to water being in the microphones.

We hope you have as much fun watching this episode at Semuc Champey as we had making it.

Thanks for watching

SEMUC CHAMPEY, LANQUIN ADVENTURES (Solo Backpacking Guatemala Vlog)

Hey Friends! After a super long journey to the town of Languin in Guatemala, I made it to the famous zephyr lodge that has amazing views, great people, good parties, and fun adventure trips! I did the river tubing with the hostel the first day and a full day of exploring the caves, pools, and view point at Semuc Champey! It is totally worth the hassle to get there because it is beautiful!!
If you are following along on my route through central America, I did not make a view for the next location unfortunately. I went to Flores and tikal national park just next to the Belize border in Guatemala! It was an amazing time and I do suggest going there!

Travelling from Antigua to Lanquin Guatemala (2019) Hostel El Retiro Lodge

In this episode we travel from the town of Antigua to Lanquin both in Guatemala. Lanquin is a wonderful village tucked in a valley in the jungles of Guatemala and is the base to visit the famous pools of Semuc Champey.

We stayed at El Retiro Lodge which is one of the best stays we have had whilst backpacking Central America. It's right on the river and there is a deep area of the river where you can swim , dive and relax next to the lodge's bar. An absolute idyllic spot. So if you fancy a beautiful spot and a reasonable price then El Retiro lodge is the place for you.
Thanks for watching and coming on this adventure with us as we TREAD the Globe.

GUATEMALA | BACKPACKING TRIP 2019 ????????

Guatemala was our first country of our backpacking trip through Central America for four months. We've visited Antigua, hiked up the Acatenango vulcano, visited Lake Atitlan, learned spanish in Xela, went to Semuc Champey, Flores, Tikal and Rio Dulce. Guatemala is one of my favorite countries of Central America, the nature is beautiful!! And the hike to the Acatenango vulcano is still the best thing I've done in these four months. So if you're gonna visit Guatamala, this is a must do! We did it with the company Wicho & Charlies, a big recommendation!

In 2019, Bradley and I went on a backpacking adventure to Central America. We didn't do all the countries in the region, but we did spend 2 months exploring parts of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

This video showcases the overall itinerary we took and some individual travel itineraries for Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

All these countries were FANTASTIC!, but I think my favorite has to be Nicaragua because we LOVED the coffee, the rum, the sights, and the sunsets are the best I've experienced in the world...

CENTRAL AMERICA BACKPACKING TRIP | Mexico, Belize & Guatemala - Trailer

I went solo backpacking around Central America for 6 weeks, travelling through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

This 3 part documentary series shows the entire backpacking experience.

From the fun activities, beautiful sites, crazy parties, to the exhausting journeys and the good, bad and ugly hostels.

Flying into Cancun, Mexico, I made my way to Tulum to check out the cenotes. Then chilled out at the beautiful Lake Bacalar before crossing the border into Belize.

Caye Caulker island was a great place to chill and party, as well as do some incredible snorkelling. From here I took a 3 day island-hopping boat tour with Ragamuffin tours along the Belize Barrier Reef.

Heading inland I went to San Ignacio, exploring the Caracol ruins by jeep. Then I crossed the border into Guatemala, staying in the beautiful town of Flores to visit the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Next stop was the beautiful Semuc Champey, stunning waterfalls in the jungle-filled mountains. Then I went to Antigua and got to roast some marsh-mellows on Pacaya volcano.

I then did a 3 day trek from Xela to Lake Atitlan, hiking through cloud forests, corn fields, small villages and staying with local families.

At Lake Atitlan I got to try out horse-riding for the first time before finishing up my trip at El Paredon on the Pacific Coast.
