Our journey started from the beautiful town of Cluj-Napoca , where we caught the train IR 406 which was a 2 hour 30 minute ride (costing $26 USD for us both). Upon reaching Oradea, we had an apartment booked which was next to Kaufland shopping Centre. We recommend booking around the Kaufland because that's useful for groceries and it was a 1 minute walk from our place. The next morning, we didn't start roaming until about mid-day but when we got exploring- we were surprised.
Oradea is known for baroque and art nouveau architecture, remnants of the Austro-Hungarian empire. We really did get a feel of Hungary from this place and headed straight to the main Black Eagle Palace. This palace was beyond beautiful but sadly the main shops inside were shut due to it being Sunday.
We took a stroll around the main square where town hall, main tram and also lots of restaurants are situated. Our first main stop was at Cafe Frei where we enjoyed some specialty coffee and then headed to the park around a minute away. It took us around 20 minutes to walk from Black Eagle Palace to Oradea fortress where we spent time appreciating the architecture. Our next stop was Moskovits palace before we found our way back to the main tram and headed to Childrens town park. We ended the day with a hearty ROMANIAN dinner at Rosecas before saying good-bye to the beautiful country of Romania.

Oradea (Hungarian: Nagyvárad, German: Großwardein, Slovak: Veľký Varadín, Latin: Magnovaradinum) is the capital city of Bihor County, Crişana, Romania. It is located in western Romania, on the Crişul Repede River, in close proximity to the border with Hungary.
At the same time, Oradea is also the most important city in the historical region of Crişana. According to the 2002 census, the municipality had 206,614 inhabitants. [3] The metropolitan area, which also includes 11 neighboring communes, had, in 2002, a population of 249,746 inhabitants, of which 68.2% were Romanians, 28.7% Hungarians, etc.[4] In the interwar period, 20.6% of the city's population was made up of Jews, including communities of Germans, Slovaks, Ukrainians, etc. [5] (see Bihor County interwar).
The spa resorts Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai are located at a distance of 8 km and 4 km respectively from the city. In addition to the thermal waters internationally recognized for the therapeutic effects, in this area there is a spectacular karst formation, more precisely, an aven with a depth of 86 meters, called in the area The Crater of Betfia, as well as the Peța Stream, with a tropical vegetation unique in Europe. [6]
For centuries, Oradea has been an important reference point for the area, being the most important cultural and commercial center. In the Middle Ages, in the City of Oradea there was an astronomical observatory, and the astronomers who worked there used the meridian of Oradea as a meridian of 0°. [7]
Tourism in Oradea is beginning to develop, Oradea participating, together with Băile Felix, at the Vienna Tourism Fair in January 2015.

Oradea Is Romania's Most Underrated City!
After finishing my time in Cluj-Napoca, my plan was to head to the city of Timisoara. It seemed like a long travel day so instead I decided to stop at the city of Oradea.
I knew nothing about Oradea but online reports said that it was one of Romania's most beautiful cities, despite it being overlooked by many travellers.
The city boasts some of the most incredible architecture in the whole of Romania. Walking around the city centre felt like being in an open air museum.
I am sure that if you are planning to travel in Romania and you watch this vlog, you will be adding Oradea to your itinerary!

An estimated one-third of all thermal springs in Europe is located here, and in recent years, domestic spa resorts have started to reinvent themselves and reclaim their former prominence. Hundreds of thousands of tourists are drawn to these resorts because they want to spend time in a place of relaxation and care and reap the benefits of the thermal waters. The city has also won recognition for its historical baroque and art nouveau attractions as well as its multicultural past. This city has a lot to offer including its eclectic culture as well as its picturesque landscapes and attractions. It is regarded as the gateway to Western Europe and a hub of activity.

What's up in Oradea, Romania?
Oradea is a western city in Transylvania, Romania. I didn't know anything about this city except that it's close to the border with Hungary and a known transit point, where trains, buses, and vampires intersect in their travels.
Oradea is also known for its museums, architecture, nightlife, and proximity to thermal baths.
Today I interviewed some locals, and took in the marvels of the old town Oradea.

Oradea is one of the MOST beautiful cities in Romania (2023 ????????)
Oradea is on of the MOST beautiful cities in Romania! We arrive in our last city of our almost 3 month journey through the stunning country of Romania. Oradea dates back to the 12th century and is known for its baroque and art nouveau architecture; remnants of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was also the GPS of the Middle Ages, the first “0” meridian of mankind! On first impression, we notice an abundance of construction throughout the city. Despite that, we couldn’t believe how beautiful the city was! Oradea is home to the most palaces in Romania and over 100 churches of different denominations, even hosting the only active Jewish community in Romania and the largest Baptist church in Europe. We visit the “Moon Church” with its unique mechanism built in 1793 that rotates around every 28 days through the phases of the moon, the beautiful Greek Catholic Church and Saint Ladislaus I Church.
We visit the Black Eagle and Moskovits Palaces, cross the Crisul Repede River, and tour the phenomenal Oradea City Hall, an impressive example of Renaissance architecture. Oradea is also known for its expansive thermal baths to the south of the city, so of course we take a soak at the Apollo Felix Thermal Baths.
We always enjoy trying the local food and this time not only did the Dock Cafe impress us with it’s tasty food and views but we had an AMAZING burger at the American Burger Cafe!
We stroll down the impressive Strada Republicii pedestrian street and visit the Baroque Palace and its partner Roman Catholic Cathedral. We finish off our short week seeing the Oradea Philharmonic Orchestra and HOW impressive it was! We will forever remember our time in the gorgeous city of Oradea, Romania. Now it’s off to Hungary, our tenth country.

ROMANIA ???????? - is very UNDERRATED! (Watch This Before Visiting)
Have you ever thought of visiting Romania? Many people say it's not on their list of places to visit - but, it should be!! In this video, we share with you our Final Thoughts on Romania (covering the food, beer, transportation, and top sites) and go over the top Places to Visit. We traveled through Romania for 2 months and during that time had the opportunity to explore 8 different cities. We go through each of the cities we visited and share our final thoughts on each.
We started our journey in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Here is where we first discovered what wonderful things we had in store for us over the next two months - from the amazing food selections, numerous craft beer options, and beautiful architecture. Next, we made our way to Brasov located in the heart of Transylvania. While here we took day trips to visit both Peles Castle and Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) both wonderful day trips from this location. As we make our way through Transylvania, we discover Dracula's birthplace and his hometown of Sighisoara. Sibiu then became our home base for 2 weeks which was perfect as there was plenty to see and do here. You will find plenty to do in the old town and wonderful walking streets filled with restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and bakeries. We ended our final 2 weeks in Romania with stops in Alba Iulia, Cluj, Oradea, and Timisoara. Join us on our journey and see all there is to discover in the beautiful country of Romania!

The Black Eagle Palace the one-time hotel was built between 1907-1909 on the base of the old Eagle guesthouse. The ensemble equipped with a glass covered passage making the connection between three streets became the most important realization of the architect couple Marcell Komor and Dezso Jakab. The glass painting with the black eagle the ensemble's emblem was executed in 1909 in the Oradean Neumann workshop.
The cathedral of the orthodox episcopate of Oradea, the Church with Moon was built between 1784-1790, in baroque style with neoclassical influences after the plans of the architect Éder Jakab. The inside pictures were realized by the Teodorovici brothers and by Paul Murgu. It has a bell-tower of 55 m high.
The St. Ladisla's Square got its actual name of Union's Square between the two Word Wars. Here we may find the building of the City-hall, the Greek-Catholic Bishop Palace, the Moon Church, the Black Eagle Palace, the Greek-Catholic Church St. Ierarh Nicolae and the St. Ladisla's Church. In 1924 in the center of the square was placed the statue of king Ferdinand I the founder of Big Romania. Nowadays here is placed the statue of Mihai Viteazul, place where year to year the citizens and the authorities of the city fulfill there respect to the national heroes.
The fortress of Oradea how it is today - pentagonal, with battlements at its corners and water ditch - was built between 1570-1618 by Italian architects remained the best kept Italian renaissance fortress of central Europe. Between 1097-1557 served as residence of the Roman Catholic bishop of Oradea period when the fortress became an important religious and cultural center.In the fortress functioned a library, an astronomical observatory, a printing house and a school.In the catholic church and in its cemetery found their eternal peace not less then seven crowned person: Ladisla I (died on the 25th of July 1095 in Zvolen, taken to Oradea between 1130-1134), Andrei II (had been buried in 1235 in Oradea, later taken to the abbey of Agria), Alexander II, Ladisla IV the Cunsenian (killed in 1290 at Cheresig), queen Beatrix (wife of Carol Robert de Anjou, in 1319), queen Mary (wife of Sigismund de Luxembourg, in 1396) and king Sigismund de Luxembourg (in 1437).
