GAMBIA (AFRICA) TRAVEL TO:LAMIN
Lamin is the largest village in Kombo North Western Division of the Gambia. A village with two large clans, Bojang, and Manneh, as the founders, and all the rest are considered lountan meaning strangers in Manidinko. There is a village leader, AlKalo who is from the lineage of the Bojang. Until recently the village was divided into zones marked by tribes, the Mandinkos in Sateba, the Jolas in Sanchaba, the Manjako in Wayoto and all the other tribes in Temasu.

Una aldea con dos grandes clanes, Bojang y Manneh, como fundadores, y todos los demás se consideran lountan, que significa extraños en Manidinko. Hay un líder de la aldea, AlKalo, que es del linaje de los Bojang. The Gambia.. the smiling coast of West Africa!! What a beautiful country with very friendly people. We had a ball in The Gambia! And we're definitely returning. Initially EVERYONE was in shock after entering Terminal 2, it was being renovated but there weren’t any under construction signs displayed, and it looked like a war zone! One by one as we entered the terminal our jaws dropped as we were all stunned by its appearance & condition, myself included! But we quickly found out what was going on. As I mentioned before, we are returning, there was just too much to see and do for us not too, plus its a very relaxing place to spend a few weeks (possibly relocate). We tried to experience ALL of The Gambia: Fathala Wildlife Reserve, The Monkey Park, Makasutu at Coral Beach and The Kairaba Beach Hotel, and a visit to every adult beverage dispenser in the area including The Calypso Bar & Restaurant ????. Enjoyyyyyyy ????????????????????????????????

The Gambian women are playing simple percussion instruments, tapping out the rapid rhythm for the individual dancers to perform to. This happy event is simiilar to that which takes place at a traditional Gambian wedding. A bride-to-be from Bermuda is being entertained, along with her bridesmaids.

Wir nutzen das Angebot eines einheimischen Reiseveranstalters und unternehmen eine Exkursion ins Landesinnere. Nach längerer Fahrt erreichen wir die Lamin-Lodges. Sie liegt am mangrovengesäumten Ufer des Lamin Bolong. Der verwinkelte Bau mit seinen schief ins Wasser gerammten Pfählen gibt der Lodges ein eigenwilliges Aussehen. Und gerade deshalb wollen viele Afrika-Reisende die Pfahlbauten besichtigen. Überall wo wir vorbeifahren, erregen wir große Aufmerksamkeit. Wir lernen einen Koranlehrer kennen, der vor allem arme und mittellose Kinder betreut. Er erzieht seine Schüler nach den Glaubensregeln des Koran. Neugierig werden wir von den Kindern begutachtet. Hinter Bäumen versteckt, erregt eine Siedlung unsere Aufmerksamkeit. Wir nehmen Kontakt auf und erfahren viel über den beschwerlichen Alltag der Bewohner.

Gambian village boy pulling a cardboard box car
It's amazing how the world over children love to play with cardboard boxes to use their imagination, creating cars or aeroplanes or even a boat. Here this like boy is in a very remote, dusty African village, called Jallow Kunda, so while the women are busy doing their washing and carrying water from the communal tap, he plays with his pretend car!
