University of the South Pacific Open Day 2022. Kiribati students dance.

Every year, the University of the South Pacific at its Laucala Bay campus in Suva hosts an annual Open Day where school students from around the country with an interest in furthering their education at the university level visit the USP and are given guided tours. The highlight of the day happens around 2pm with students from various Pacific nations performing dance routines from their respective nation's traditions. Although the performances were still limited after Covid, I felt the students from Kiribati stole the show.

In this video Chef Austin Green demonstrate how to clean and prepare fresh sea urchin (uni). Austin is using sea urchin freshly harvested from the waters around Ketchikan, in Southeast Alaska.

Do you want to go fishing in beautiful Ketchikan, Alaska and then have Chef Austin prepare the freshest seafood in a rustic dining room overlooking Thomas Basin, the heart of historic downtown? Go to learn more: or call us at: (907) 617-9579

Baranof was conceived by AJ and Chuck Slagle, while overnighting on the beach at Slate Island in the year 2000. Having grown-up hunting and fishing in Southeast Alaska and passionate about the multitude of wilderness experiences available they believed a family looking for the true Alaskan experience should be introduced to not only sport fishing but offered the simple Alaskan pleasures, especially eating a selection of fresh Alaskan seafood, beach combing, and the enjoyment of campfires on a remote Alaskan beach. The Slagle's believe a personal introduction to the southeast Alaska lifestyle is more than a box of fish.
