Scotland's Islands

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2018 | We'll begin on the tranquil Isle of Iona, where Christianity first reached the shores of Scotland. Then we'll visit another of the Inner Hebrides, road-tripping across the Isle of Skye, where we'll explore Iron Age forts, peat fields, a venerable distillery, thatched crofter huts, and the dramatic Trotternish Peninsula. Finally, we'll sail to Orkney — more Nordic than Celtic — with its stony remnants of a thriving Iron Age civilization and evocative reminders of the 20th-century wartime harbor at Scapa Flow. Tahiti: Where Land And Sea Live In Harmony | TRACKS

An epic human adventure, this documentary introduces us to the artisans who cultivate, transform, and work with Tiaré flowers and black pearls. It's an opportunity to take a different look at these icons of Tahitian culture of which the public at large has not yet discovered all the secrets.

Beyond the picture-postcard setting, behind the strings of flowers and pearl jewellery, the Tiaré flower and black pearls are victims of pollution and human greed. Specialists are worried by their decrease in productivity.

But that's without taking into account the amazing energy of those who protect them, who endlessly manage to renew their image, diversify what's on offer, and maintain the cleanest environment possible in order to ensure the development of these veritable treasures of Polynesian heritage.

Full movie - The Water is Wide - The Viking Route #3

Adventure meets history - The Finale!

In „The Water is Wide“ my journey alone on my sailboat along an old route through Scandinavia’s gorgeous nature comes to an end. Part#3 of the docutainment trilogy The Viking Route goes from the Åland-Islands deep inside the Finnish archipelagos and in the Viking museum in Rosala. After 4 weeks of touring with my band at the Baltic coast, my journey on the old route continues to Tallinn. Here, the long and exiting way home begins and leads me through Estonia, Latvia and Gotland. On the way I found many more traces of the Vikings. The movie again shows, beside the travel itself, the emotions of a long time-out and the ingenious navigational methods and the epic mythology of the Vikings. With circumnavigator and Viking expert Burghard Pieske I could get another very interesting person in front of the camera.

In the Danish National Archives, the description of this old sea route is kept like a treasure. By coincidence Claus Aktoprak got aware of this itinerary and curiosity kicked in. This document, written by monks in Latin script, is one of the oldest and exiting sources about navigating the Baltic sea. It mentions many places which together forming - mostly sheltered by skerries - a sea route along the east coast of Sweden, over the Åland-islands and Southern-Finland to Reval (todays Tallinn). This sailing route, already used by Vikings, the 40-year-old sailboat LA MER auctioned at eBay and a kayak are the ingredients of this new Baltic sea adventure from Claus Aktoprak through the dreamlike archipelagos of Scandinavia.

Length of movie: 95 minutes
Language: English
Subtitles: English available

AFRICA | All countries of Africa | Continent

Africa contains a total of 54 independent countries, 3 dependencies, and one disputed territory. The United Nations divides Africa into five subregions for statistical purposes. They are Northern Africa, Eastern Africa, Western Africa, Middle Africa, and Southern Africa. The borders of Africa were largely drawn up by former European colonial powers, and for the most part do not reflect the ethnic, linguistic, or religious divisions of the continent.

Antarctic Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Antarctic.
The Antarctic lies far away from the civilised world and is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, a spectacular wilderness of snow, ice and rock: the last, large eco system on the planet. In Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, we begin our expedition by cruise ship to some of the most remote locations in the Antarctic. The boat makes its way along the coastline of a land of icebergs, glaciers and snow covered islands on the coldest, driest and most deserted continent on Earth. The journey through the Lemaire Channel is one of the most spectacular maritime passages one could ever experience. Everything looks absolutely newly-created. The channel is about fifteen kilometres long and up to a hundred metres wide, with snow covered islands and icebergs. Well sheltered between huge icebergs and the immense glaciers of the high mainland mountains, is Paradise Bay that, as its name suggests, is a place of calm as well as being a natural harbour. Elephant Island is the northernmost of the South Shetland Islands, the last bastion of the Antarctic that towers majestically from amid the Antarctic Ocean and is inhabited by penguins and seals. Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands, a far-flung outpost of the former British Empire. The region contains seven hundred islands of which twenty nine are inhabited. The ship’s passengers are mesmerised by the spell of the Arctic Circle, by its wildlife, its unique beauty and dramatic landscapes. The grand adventure comes to an end. Long live Antarctica!

Island Vacation Spots You Should NEVER Visit... Here's Why!

Island Vacation Spots You Should NEVER Visit... Here's Why!

Welcome back to Around The Globe, today on the channel we are going to check out the WORST ISLAND VACATION SPOTS RANKED (warning: gross). There's nothing more relaxing and therapeutic than the sound of crashing waves and sand on our feet. This is why beach destinations are at the top of our list whenever we want to get away for a bit of R&R. The peaceful view of the sunrise or sunset, the smell of salty sea wind makes us want to breathe deeper and take it all in. What if instead of that, we smell something a little funky, see floating trash on the water and more washed up on the shore? Our vacation just turned into a nightmare. Here are the 10 worst island vacation spots to travel.

1) Phu Quoc, Vietnam. This country rounds up the list of Southeast Asian countries with at least one dirty beach. Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Vietnam is a country located between Thailand and Malaysia. It is surrounded by the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. One island west of Ho Chi Minh City is also surrounded with rubbish, Phu Quoc. In most pictures, the beaches here are immaculate, but if we search further we'll see how all of them have some level of trash hidden someplace away from the wandering tourist. Some places are worse than others, but we can't say there's zero trash on even a single beach. 2) Maya Bay, Thailand. Maya Bay is being healed as we read this article. It's been closed for more than a year and will remain closed until the better part of 2021. This may just be the most beautiful beach on this list, and definitely the most popular. This was partly the fault of Leo DiCaprio and Danny Boyle. Danny Boyle directed the film The Beach and Leonardo DiCaprio starred in it. The beach, which was portrayed as THE beach in the movie, was actually Thailand's Maya Bay. It is truly a paradise. But since that film's release, tourists came in the hundreds, then thousands, until the visitors left more trash than the locals could take out. Finish this video for more on the WORST ISLAND VACATION SPOTS RANKED (warning: gross).

Animal life in North Iceland

North Iceland is rich in animal life. Whales, fish, and seals swim in the ocean, birds fly freely and enjoy their lives on islands, cliffs, and lakes. The Icelandic horse can be found on farms, and it is interesting to see how its fur changes when the weather gets colder. And then there is the Icelandic sheep, which has kept the nation alive during trying times in the past. It’s possible to go on tours to experience all these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. There are also plenty of fascinating museums in North Iceland that tell the history of these animals and how they have shaped the Icelandic culture and livelihood through the years.

Galapagos Islands - Pacific Ocean, Ecuador | Facts, History & Travel Guide | UNESCO | Urdu / Hindi

Amazing facts and travel guide about world's famous tourist attraction Galapagos Islands in Pacific Ocean, Ecuador.
#GalapagosIslands #PasificOcean #Ecuador #UrduTravel

The Galápagos Islands are a part of the Republic of Ecuador, archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the equator in the Pacific Ocean surrounding the centre of the Western Hemisphere. Located 906 km / 563 miles west of continental Ecuador, the islands are known for their large number of endemic species that were studied by Charles Darwin during the second voyage of HMS Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by means of natural selection. The Galápagos Islands and their surrounding waters form the Galápagos Province of Ecuador, the Galápagos National Park, and the Galápagos Marine Reserve. The principal language on the islands is Spanish. The islands have a population of slightly over 25,000.
The first recorded visit to the islands happened by chance in 1535, when Fray Tomás de Berlanga, the Bishop of Panamá, was surprised with this undiscovered land during a voyage to Peru to arbitrate in a dispute between Francisco Pizarro and Diego de Almagro. De Berlanga eventually returned to the Spanish Empire and described the conditions of the islands and the animals that inhabited them. The group of islands was shown and named Insulae de los Galopegos Islands of the Tortoises in Abraham Ortelius's atlas published in 1570. The first crude map of the islands was made in 1684 by the buccaneer Ambrose Cowley, who named the individual islands after some of his fellow pirates or after British royalty and noblemen. These names were used in the authoritative navigation charts of the islands prepared during the Beagle survey under captain Robert FitzRoy, and in Darwin's popular book The Voyage of the Beagle. The newly independent Republic of Ecuador took the islands from Spanish ownership in 1832, and subsequently gave them official Spanish names. The older names remained in use in English-language publications, including Herman Melville's The Encantadas of 1854. Administratively, Galapagos constitutes one of the provinces of Ecuador, made up of three cantons that bear the names of its most populated islands, San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz and Isabela
