Giant Stairs Hike (Palisades Interstate Park)

In December 2020, we tackled the Giant Stairs in Palisades Interstate Park! This was NOT your average trail… we saw a waterfall, hiked right next to (and sometimes OVER) the Hudson River, and rock scrambled for over a mile up some slick boulders! We did this trail on a day after it rained which made it much more challenging but definitely fun. The trail also starts and finishes at the State Line Lookout so the views of New York, the Tappan Zee Bridge, and the George Washington Bridge are pretty awesome. We hope you enjoy this video, please subscribe to our YouTube Channel if you haven’t already! :)

HIKING The GIANT Stairs In Palisades Of NEW JERSEY (Won't DO IT Again)

#tough #hiking #newjersey
Ever wondered what its like hopping across huge boulders on path that can barely be called as a trail? Then watch this video as I hike along the Giant Stairs trail in the Palisades Interstate Park located near the NY/NJ state line.

Welcome to the Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey
Administered by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, the Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey is about twelve miles long and half a mile wide, with 2,500 acres of wild Hudson River shorefront, uplands, and cliffs — just minutes from midtown Manhattan!

The hike is made of two different trails - The Long Path and the Shoreline Trail. The Giant Stairs is a labyrinth of huge boulders randomly strewn at the bottom of the Palisades and it takes careful navigation to go across. Make sure you carry enough water, snacks and sturdy footwear (no sneakers !!)

Thanks for watching!

Giant Stairs Trail at Palisades Interstate Park - ROCK SCRAMBLE!

Giant Stairs, the top rock scramble trail in New Jersey and one of the premiere hikes in the entire state. The hike starts at State line Lookout 520 feet above the mighty Hudson River, and drops sharply down to the river's edge. The actual Giant Stairs portion is a roughly 1 mile scramble over and through huge boulders that tumble from the base of the sheer cliffs into the Hudson below. Waterfalls, ruins, historic structures, and amazing views all combine for an action packed must do 4.5 mile circuit hike, mere miles from downtown Manhattan.

We chose to do an easy hike, but the hard part was finding our starting point. It didn't go as planned, but we still had a lot of fun in Palisades Park New Jersey.

Palisades Interstate Park - Killer Hike! (Vlog)

I spent a day at Palisades Interstate Park hiking the beautiful trails that mingle among the rock bluffs and banks of the Hudson River on the New Jersey side. The hike was over 9 miles and consisted of much rock scrambling and significant elevation changes.

So...it's a beautiful Saturday in New Jersey...60 degrees...partly cloudy...great day for a little hike I say to myself...I'll find something close...something simple I say...I will head to the Palisades...maybe do the Giant Stairs trail...how hard could it be? Judge for yourself. It was challenging and fun, what more can you ask for in a trail.

The Giant Stairs on Hudson River - Palisades Parkway, New Jersey

The Giant Stairs loop hike, which begins at the State Line Lookout on the Palisades Parkway, must surely have the distinction of “Best Hike With its Own Exit off the Highway” in the Hudson Valley.
