8 Best Hikes in Cyprus ???????? Hiking Road Trip
Hiking in Cyprus. I traveled to the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and went on a solo hiking road trip in order to explore its beautiful nature by hiking 8 trails. They were selected to get the greatest diversity, so all of them are up to 10 km in length and each one is unique in its way, so each trail is the best of its category. They showcase the wild and naked nature of the Greek island. Some of them are little known so can be considered hidden gems. But all of them are must-see places in Cyprus if you love nature. And my conclusion is this — Cyprus is a very fitting place for hiking alone.
The trails are spread out to the whole of Cyprus, so this list is perfect for a round a week long roundtrip (the hikes can be done in 4 days, if you do 2 per day). Two of them are in the Turkish part of Northern Cyprus. So this video will serve as a hiking guide for both North and South Cyprus. It also includes some travel tips and where to park your car at the trailheads.
A small self-correction: The Aphrodite trail is actually the full loop that I did as the Adonis trail turns to a different direction at one point early into the Aphrodite trail. But my advice to do the trail clockwise remains — this way you'll get the mind-blowing effect of seeing the view at once, not gradually.

Welcome to Cyprus!
On this road trip across the south coast of Cyprus, I’m exploring Cyprus’ most amazing destinations. I’ve done the research, and chosen these must-do activities that will help you plan the perfect trip. Right! It’s time to share with you 9 of the most fantastic things to do on this beautiful island.
The awesome power of nature is everywhere in Cyprus, and my first fantastic thing to do illustrates that perfectly - Avakas Gorge. Be sure to bring some comfortable shoes - there’s a short but lovely hike on the way to the gorge.
Okay, so this is the Avakas Gorge trail that we're going to follow. It's very hot, it’s very dry, we’ve dosed up on sun cream, got tonnes of water in the bag and got about a 2-3km trek to go and find the Gorge. So yeah, let’s get walking!
Like I said, it’s a popular tourist destination, so you can expect to see some tour groups on your walk. The tourist presence doesn’t ruin the appeal. A lot has been done to protect the area. It’s prohibited to pick any plants here, and animals roam freely. You’re completely surrounded by natural beauty.
The walk to the gorge sort of serves a double purpose. The blue sky, the lush green foliage - it sets you up for the shock of finally turning that corner and seeing the walls of the gorge.
The gorge is 3km long, and the walls reach up to 30 metres high. These sheer rock walls are so tall that you’re completely protected from the sun, and the cool breeze blowing through the gorge is so nice after a warm and sticky hike.
The river is low and calm under foot - but during the winter month, the river levels rise and the small stream becomes a torrent. This sense of danger isn’t just under foot- it’s also overhead.
So there's a rock here which is wedged between the cliff faces and it looks pretty ominous! Looks like it’s about to drop.
Beware that some of the mountain roads to get here can be quite tight and get busier as the day goes on. Something to note if you’re a nervous driver.
So here’s a bonus tip for you - right next to wonderful thing to do number 3 is a fantastic restaurant called Oniro By The Sea.
Fantastic food, refreshing cocktails, sea views - Oniro has everything, and I can’t recommend enough that you make it a stop on your trip and it’s just a stone’s throw away from our next destination. In fact, you can probably see it from your table.
It’s just a 5 minute walk from the restaurant at most - the shipwreck of the Edro III.
So that the Shipwreck behind me is quite a sight and it’s been here for just under 10 years now. So apparently back in 2011 it embarked for Rhodes, one of the Greek Islands.
But never made it, because it hit a freak storm and ended up being caught up on the rocks here just off the coastline.
So apparently people fled there, they made it safe, they took out the fuel as soon as they could, so that the oceans weren’t polluted and now? It makes for a rather nice photo opportunity as you can see down there.
I couldn’t help myself - I had to get closer to the ship. The rocks are very rough in places, but I’m so glad I did - getting just that little bit closer to the shipwreck was so awe-inspiring.
The clear water and crashing waves were hypnotising. But if you want even more bang for your buck, just 200 metres from the wreck are sea caves carved into the cliffs.
A great opportunity to walk down the lunch, take some gorgeous holiday pictures, and get one last look at the shipwreck before heading to your next destination.
Coral Bay Beach is widely regarded as one of the best beaches on the island. That’s right, it only took me three Things To Do until I wanted to hit the beach, and it’s the most visited beach on Cyprus’ West Coast.
It’s easy to see why - it’s got fine, white sand, calm, clear water - everything you’d want for a day in the sun. If you’re put off by seeing so many people here, don’t worry. I found an easy solution.
So yes, Coral Beach is a fairly obvious beach to come to, you’ve got your parasols your water sports, your deckchairs.

11 countries in 14 days - the ULTIMATE BALKAN ROADTRIP 2022
11 countries in 2 weeks - over 5000 kilometres by car - that was the massive trip we went on in May 2022.
This beautiful region in south-eastern Europe is absolutely underestimated - I hope to inspire one or the other for the Balkans with this cinematic video.
We started early in the morning in Bavaria and drove via AUSTRIA to SLOVENIA for a short stop at Lake Bled. From there we continued to CROATIA, just after the border there is a ruin of a castle to admire in the village of Novigrad na Drobi. Afterwards we continued to BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA, more precisely to the town of Bihac, from where we had a good starting position for the following day.
Then we went back to CROATIA, to the abandoned Željava Airbase, once the largest aircraft cavern in Europe & then to the border river Una, where you can visit beautiful waterfalls.The final destination of this second day was the city of Zadar. The following two days we spent in Split, from where we made excursions to Knin and Trogir.
Afterwards we drove back to BOSNIA in the direction of Sarajevo, but before that we stopped at the abandoned Hotel Igman and the also abandoned ski jumping arena of the 1984 Olympic Games.
After a night in the beautiful capital of Bosnia, our route took us via Nikšić to one of our favourite places in MONTENEGRO: Budva. But before that, we visited THURMFORT GORADZA, a fortress complex from Austro-Hungarian times, situated in an absolute dream location on top of a mountain, from where you can wonderfully overlook the Bay of Kotor.
Next came the country that surprised us the most and above all the most positively: ALBANIA. After a short detour to the castle in Lezhë, we drove to Tirana, the capital, where you can find really wonderful nightlife. Then we went to Ksamil, where you can enjoy wonderful beaches. Here we were already halfway through the trip - next stop: GREECE and the Meteora monasteries in Kalambaka.
The next day we headed north to Skopje, the capital of MACEDONIA, always worth seeing & nice to go out & dine. Our second-to-last stop was Belgrade in SERBIA, where we were also very positively surprised by the lively nightlife and definitely have to go there again. Our last night was spent in Timișoara, ROMANIA, before a nearly 12-hour drive back home through HUNGARY & AUSTRIA.
It was fascinating and as already mentioned, the region is absolutely worth seeing and even in this time we could only scratch the facade that there was still so much to discover.
