Lake Bunyonyi is the Most Beautiful lake in Africa and its located in south western uganda, about 450kms from kampala in Kabale district. Lake bunyonyi is the second deepest Lake in Africa.
One of the best places to visit in Uganda. Lake Bunyonyi is popular for its green and lush terraced hills that are punctuated with a plethora of over 200 birds.

Lake Bunyonyi is in south-western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale, and it is close to the border with Rwanda. The lake appeared from 2004 to 2009 on the 5,000 Ugandan shilling note under the title Lake Bunyonyi and terraces

Uganda - Market day at Lake Bunyonyi
On market day at Lake Bunyonyi in southwest Uganda bags with charcoal are brought in by boat for trade. Also people from villages at the lake arrive in large groups, packed in small boats. They trade their goods and take the opportunity to grab a lift with a car to Kabale, the nearest town, as market day is the day with most cars going to the city and because public transport is non-existent.
But also normal daily life goes on: early in the morning singing schoolkids arrive by boat for their lessons.
We visited Lake Bunyoni on our overland trip from the Netherlands to South Africa.
The Ugandan Tourist Visits Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi also known as the ‘place of many little birds’ is undoubtedly the loveliest lake in Uganda. Its stunning shoreline engulfs 29 islands, surrounded by steep terraced hillsides that will blow your mind away as they did mine.
Journey with me by boat to this lake that's known to be free of bilharzia, inspired shots in the famed Black Panther Movie (Wakanda Forever) and is ideal for swimming.
This was part of our #RediscoveringWakanda trip in which we sought to visit and also discover a few things that maintain the avowal #UgandaIsLit.

Believed to be the second deepest lake in Africa, Lake Bunyonyi is a body of water in southwestern Uganda near the Rwandan border, and one of the country’s top natural treasures. And, at 1,962m above sea level, the lake enjoys moderate temperatures year round, cool in both the mornings and evenings.
Lake Bunyonyi is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of 2,200-2,478m, but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — we could’ve admired them all day. It’s a sight that reinvents itself every hour or two with the ever-changing climate and direction of the sun. In the early morning, the islands weave through cotton candy-like streams of mist and, in the afternoon, they’re bathed in the warm glow of the sun. Later, they’re silhouetted against a dim sky as evening approaches. One day the islands vanished from sight completely, hidden under a blanket of clouds, but it only took an hour to see them emerge once more.

This makes it a perfect ideal for many bird enthusiasts. A dive into the Nyombi swamp reveals a variety of assorted birds. Apart from birdwatching, the place also present perfect. These include sports like swimming as well as boat cruising and riding.
