Exploring the salt flats in Bolivia. We ventured across beautiful desert landscapes whilst crossing from Chile into Bolivia.

3 DAYS IN THE SALT FLATS, BOLIVIA - Salar de Uyuni Travel Vlog
During our travels in South America, there was one place we kept hearing about - The Salt Flats in Bolivia. Everybody that we met who had been here said it was one of their highlights, so when there's no way we were going to miss them.
Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flats in the world and is incredibly beautiful. The best way to explore them is to sign up for a Uyuni Salt Flats tour, which includes your transport, guide, food and accommodation. We joined the company Red Planet Expeditions, and the cost was only USD$210 per person for the 3 days, which was a bargain considering what you get to see and do.
During our time in the Uyuni salt flats we visited the train cemetery, a salt-processing village, Cactus Island, the Eduardo Avaroa National Park and some volcanic geysers. We stayed in salt hotels, swam in hot springs and saw plenty of flamingos and llamas too.
This Salt Flats Bolivia tour was definitely worth the trip when travelling around the country. Salar de Uyuni blew our minds, and we can't wait to come back again at a different time of year when the salt flats are flooded, making what is known as the world's largest mirror.

Visiting San Pedro de Atacama, Chile - How to spend 3 days in San Pedro de Atacama?
You should definitely add San Pedro de Atacama to your Chilean bucket list if it’s not included already! Watch this travel video, where I show you the beauty of San Pedro and its surroundings with mountains, volcanos, lagoons, geysers and salt flats. And you can even see flamingos and vicuñas.
DAY 0 - TRAVELLING TO CHILE
Flying from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Santiago and then to Calama airport, which is the closest airport to San Pedro de Atacama.
We spent one night in Calama, though if I'd plan this trip again, I'd go straight to San Pedro!
DAY 1 - TRAVELLING TO SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA + VALLE DE LA LUNA
Travelling by bus from Calama to San Pedro de Atacama (1,5-2 hours by bus).
Checking into our hostel, Hostal Nuevo Amanecer.
Discovering Caracoles street, the centre of San Pedro and its tourist agencies.
Booking a tour to Valle de La Luna (Moon Valley)
Tour agency: Tani Tani Traveller agency
Price: 12.000 CLP/person
Additional entrance fee: 3.000 CLP/person
Duration: from 4 pm to 8 pm
The tour had 3 main stops in the valley: the salt sculptures of Tres Marias and 2 viewpoints with panorama to fascinating mountains and valleys. We finished the tour by watching the sunset from the Coyote viewpoint.
DAY 2 - LAGUNA CEJAR, OJOS DEL SALAR AND LAGUNA TEBINQUICHE TOUR
Tour agency: White & Green International Travel
Price: 23.000 CLP/ person (instead of 25.000 CLP)
Additional entrance fee: 15.500 CLP/person
Duration: from 4 pm to 9 pm
The 1st stop was Laguna Cejar, where 3 lagoons are situated: Laguna Cejar, Piedra and Baltinache. Piedra Lagoon has high salt concentration and that's the only one where you can bath and float on the surface.
Ojos del Salar (Salt Flat Eyes) are two blue lagoons located close to each other.
The highlight of the tour was Laguna Tebinquiche. The few centimetres shallow lagoon is partly covered with salt and we could also see some flamingos in the middle of it.
Finally, the bus stopped in the desert and we had some snacks and drinks. And most importantly, we watched the sunset.
DAY 3 - PIEDRAS ROJAS, LAGUNAS ALTIPLANICAS & SALAR TOUR
Tour agency: White & Green International Travel
Price: 45.000 CLP/ person (instead of 50.000 CLP)
Additional entrance fee: 3.000 CLP/person
Duration: from 7 am to 5 pm
Breakfast in Socaire.
Laguna Tuyajto was the farthest point we travelled, that lagoon was super beautiful with its bright blue colour and the snow-peaked mountains in the background.
We turned back and stopped at the viewpoint of Mirador de Salar de Aguas Calientes overlooking Aguas Calientes Salt Flats and mountains.
Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons (Altiplanic Lagoons) are 2 hidden blue lagoons located between mountains and volcanoes.

Laguna Chaxa was our first stop which is a huge salt flat region surrounded by the Andes Mountains and filled with flamingos! Next were two gorgeous blue lakes - Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Miniques where we had a picnic with a view!

Bolivia Salt Flats | What To Expect On Salar De Uyuni Tour | Unbelievably Beautiful Experience
Welcome to our 2 part series of our journey from Uyuni in Bolivia to San Pedro de Atacama, through the World's Largest Salt Flats, the Bolivian Salt Flats of Uyuni or Salar de Uyuni.
The first part (this video) is about exploring the Uyuni Salt Flats and staying overnight at a Salt Hotel.
The second part (next video) will be about our travel through desert landscapes from the Salt Flats to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.
On the first day, we explore the vast Uyuni Salt Flats starting in the small town of Uyuni.
We start with the train cemetery, followed by our lunch at a restaurant made of salt. In fact, almost whatever we saw on the day was made of salt :-)
Our next stop was the mark of Dakar, Bolivia, and the first salt hotel in Bolivia, with flags from all over the world from travelers who have been here before. This is where the Salt Flats start.
As we go deeper into the Salt Flats, the Salt created interesting geometric shapes, hexagons, or polygonal shapes making for an interesting structure that looks like a beehive.
Our guide made us do odd poses, which resulted in hilarious perspective photos. As the salt flats have an unending horizon, these perspective photos are possible and one of the most fun parts of the Salar de Uyuni trip.
Our next stop was at the Incahuasi Island which stands tall amidst the salt desert and is home to giant cacti, which are said to be over 1000 years old. We explored the island's rocky terrain and admired incredible views of the salt flats from the top of the island.
Finally, we experienced the most magical moment of the day, the sunset on the Bolivia Salt Flats. As the sun descended, the sky turned into a canvas of hues of pink and orange, complementing the white expanse below. It was a moment that left us in absolute awe and brought a perfect ending to our Day 1 of Salar de Uyuni tour, before we checked in to a hotel for the night, a hotel made of salt!

Our 4-Day Tour of Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia and the Atacama Desert in 2020
In this video, we will show you how to travel through the salt flats in Bolivia.

In this video, we take you through the lagoons and view some beautiful Flamingos, Lamas, Fox, and beautiful landscapes. We have a 4-day tour through the salt flat's and the desert before we arrive in San Pedro, Atacama, Chile.
The elevation on our second day increased and we slept at 4,000 meters. Both Meghan and I were starting to feel sick by the end of the day. We stayed hydrated and we're eating, however, one critical mistake we made was using too much energy. We didn't know that at high elevations you should take it slow and conserve your energy, unfortunately, we learned this the hard way.

BOLIVIA: Salar de Uyuni | 3 Day Tour of the Salt Flats
A 3 Day/2 Night Salar de Uyuni Tour in Bolivia. I booked with Salty Desert Adventures (the Spanish Tour cuz it’s cheaper than English) in the small town of Uyuni. Day 1 and 2 are incredible and full of adventures. Day 3 consists of a couple lakes and then crossing the border into Chile and a bus to San Pedro de Atacama.
I 100% recommend this tour for anyone visiting Bolivia. It was one of my highlights of all of South America.
