Korean Supermarket Tour and food prices: Grocery Shopping in Seoul, Korea at Lotte Mart Department Store plus cost of Korean food items (롯데마트 서울역점) Travel Food Video Transcript:

Well good morning. For today's video we are going to take you inside a Korean supermarket. So exciting stuff guys. Yeah, we're going to give you a complete tour of one of the most popular supermarkets (슈퍼) in all of Korea. The chain is called Lotte Mart (롯데마트) and we're visiting the one at the Seoul station (서울역) branch. And it is especially big so we're going to give you a full tour show you what you can buy inside of there.

So I know going inside a Korean supermarket (한국 슈퍼마켓) may seem like a bit of an unusual video but the reason we wanted to do this is because they carry a lot of products that you wouldn't normally find in a North American supermarket so we just want to show you guys those differences in case you're thinking of visiting or thinking of moving here. We're going to show you what you can expect to find in a Korean supermarket.

So we have come to my favorite aisle. We are in the tuna (참치) and spam (스팸) aisle. And this is super popular in Korea. I remember when I taught English here one year for Christmas I got this giant case of canned tuna and canned spam. So apparently it makes for a pretty cool gift.

So there is also an entire aisle dedicated to kimchi (김치). An entire aisle section just for Korean fermented cabbage. Kimchi (김치) products.

And out of all noodle cups you can get Shin Ramyun (신라면) is probably my favorite and that is right here. Yeah. Eight hundred Won (원) for a giant bowl there.

We are now in the frozen aisle. Yeah, and what you can get at the frozen aisle are Korean mandu (만두) so that is Korean style dumplings. I'll open that up in here. Here is an example of a value pack. You can get three of them in one. Pretty cool. And they come with different fillings. You can get kimchi (김치), you can get gogi (고기) ones which are meat and you can get a whole bunch of different flavors too.

So that concludes the shopping excursion. Yeah, we gave you guys a pretty good of the food section. Now there is especially in that department store there is actually a lot more you can buy. There is clothes. The entire second floor. There is a whole second level that we didn't even go to. There is electronics and things like that. We just showed you guys the food and this is one of the big three grocery department stores you can find in Seoul, Korea.

So there is this one Lotte Mart (롯데마트). There is also E-Mart (이마트) and there is also Homeplus (홈플러스).

This is part of our Travel in South Korea video series showcasing Korean food, Korean culture and Korean cuisine.

Eating at Lotte Department Store [[CC/ Subs]]

We moved to Seoul for the next 3 months

Lotte Department Store is always bustling, but this time we sat down for a bite.

Full KOREAN BREAKFAST + World’s BIGGEST Department Store in Centum City | Busan, South Korea

On our eighth day in South Korea, my boy Sam and I made the best of a rainy day by getting up early to have a full Korean breakfast and exploring the world’s biggest department store! Come join us on our indoor adventures in Busan, South Korea!

FEATURED TRAVELER:

Sam:

It was pouring rain outside and we found a cozy place with wooden tables in Centum City that served a pork, vegetable, and soup feast! I couldn’t wait to get out of the rain and give them a try!

Inside, our breakfast spread included 10 amazing items, including fish cakes, lettuce, spicy pork with spring onions, spicy kimchi, soybean paste, herbs, egg souffle, veggies, and a tofu soup with soybean base. This was perfect for me because I love vegetables and pork!

The utensils were stored in a drawer in our table, which is super convenient. Before I started eating, I cleaned my hands with a wet wipe.

I started with a fish cake, which was super thick and not too spicy. There was a little bit of chilies in there, but the sauce was more like a tasty sweet and sour sauce. Then I moved on to the kimchi, which was really spicy. There are 200 varieties of kimchi in South Korea. Some are hotter, some have more sourness, but they’re all phenomenal!

Next was the soybean paste, which was really potent but nice. It was like a thick soybean jam. I couldn’t wait to mix it with something! Then I went with a spicy-looking herb that was actually a seaweed mixed with chilies and spices. Then I tried the egg souffle, which was like a soft, gelatin-like flan. It was kind of bland, but still pretty good.

I moved on to the vegetables, which looked like spinach. They were nice and crunch, and super fresh. Then I tried the pork alone, which wasn’t spicy at all but super tender and fatty with some spring onions.

Next, I added some to some lettuce and rolled it up. The crunchy, fresh lettuce provided a nice contrast to the rich, flavorful pork. I added some soybean paste to my next roll, which took the flavors to a whole new level!

The tofu soup with soybean base, onions, mushrooms, and greens had a little kick. The tofu was really soft and the broth was nice but not fishy. It had some spice to it, though!

Sam and I both really loved the pork lettuce wraps with the soybean paste. It added a saltiness and so much flavor!

After our meal, we headed underground to the metro station because it was still pouring outside. There, we found an underground entrance to the world’s biggest department store! We headed up the escalators, where we saw some food as well as shoes, cakes, and so much more!

I had never seen cakes like this. There were over nine floors in the department store and so many different vendors. On the fourth floor was an ice skating rink! It was kind of empty because it had only just opened, but it had everything from an arcade to fast food, as well as stores like The Gap and more luxurious brands like Prada. I highly recommend visiting it if you’re ever in Busan!

I hope you enjoyed coming with us to breakfast and the world’s biggest department store! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures.

24 Hour Korean BREAKFAST Restaurant 14 Items! + Busan Tower | Busan, South Korea

Day 7 in South Korea began with an incredible breakfast spread in the city of Busan, which my boy Sam and I followed with a trip to Busan Tower. Come along with us as we continue exploring this incredible coastal city!

FEATURED TRAVELER:

Sam:

On Sunday morning, we got up to get something to eat, but most places are closed on Sunday mornings, so we found a 24-hour breakfast spot that serves bapsang, which is a huge spread of food that centers around meat, vegetables, soups, and sides.

Our feast looked insane! There were over a dozen items in total, with 3 main dishes in the middle. It included glass noodles, seaweed soup, rice, fish cakes with spicy sauce, a rice drink, creamy roots with mushrooms, vegetables, tofu soup with mushrooms and herbs, fish with squash, spicy pork with onions, a spring onion pancake, spicy kimchi, salad with black sesame sauce, and lettuce. The best thing is, the entire spread came to only 9,000 won, or about $7.41 USD!

I started with the glass noodles, which were slippery but very nice and greasy. They contained a bit of veg. Next, were the fish cakes, which were tender and not too spicy. They were fantastic and I loved the sauce!

Next, I tried the seaweed soup, which was cloudy and lukewarm. I loved the seaweed! There were also noodles in it and it was very light and refreshing. It would be perfect after a hangover.

Then I tried the creamy roots and mushrooms. They were amazing! I loved the creaminess and the crunchiness of the roots. Next was the veg, which was like greens and very healthy. Then I dug into the kimchi, my favorite thing in South Korea. It was so spicy and had some real heat to it!

Next up was the salad with black sesame dressing. It was super sweet and the black sesame reminded me of chocolate. It was an overload of sauce but really good!

The spring onion pancake had a really nice batter and was delicious and a little cold. Then I went for the main dishes. I started with the spicy pork, which you dip into some sauce and wrap in a piece of lettuce. The pork was so buttery and wasn’t spicy at all. Then I had it with some seaweed, which was like surf and turf with the contrast of flavors!

The fish was next, which had tons of bones in it. I tried the squash alone, which fell apart in my mouth. The fish was salty and had a light sauce. I was lucky to not get any bones.

The crab and tofu soup was next. I grabbed some tofu and mushrooms first, which was dense and had absorbed the flavor of the broth. It was a little hot and the mushrooms and vegetables were outstanding!

I finished up with the rice drink, which had some grains in it. It wasn’t my favorite!

Then Sam went for the glass noodles and some pork. They were his two favorites!

Then, we headed to Busan Tower, which is an observation deck where you can get epic views of the city. I was loving this city. It had a different vibe from Seoul and the people were friendlier.

When I arrived at the tower, I found some traditional masks. I bought two! Right across from it is where you head up to the tower, which is located in Yongdusan Park, or Dragonhead Park. It was a hike to get to the top. It cost 8,000 won/$6.59 USD each for us to go up to the top.

Sam and I seemed to be the only two people heading up! There were huge windows in the circular observation deck. We could see the entire, sprawling city below. The sun was out and the views were beautiful! I could see skyscrapers, boats, the port, the nearby mountains, and so much more. It kind of reminded me of Rio!

What a morning!

I hope you enjoyed coming with us on our Korean breakfast feast and trip to Busan Tower! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up, leave a comment, and please subscribe so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!

Since starting David’s Been Here in 2008, I have traveled to over 1,000 destinations in 73 countries, which I welcome you to check out on my YouTube channel, travel blog, and social media sites.

I focus a great deal on food and historical sites, as you probably have seen! I love to experience the different flavors that each destination has to offer, from casual street food to gourmet restaurant dining. I’m also passionate about learning about the local history and culture.

P.S. Thank you for watching my videos and subscribing!
