In today's episode Anubhav is out in the city of Udaipur with host Rajat Mogra, a food blogger, to unravel the breakfast scene on the streets of the City of Lakes. Being a serene and beautiful historical city, Udaipur is a tourist hotspot as a result of which it has many big and small eateries, posh and old fashioned eateries. But they were in lookout for the snacks available on the streets that are commonly consumed by the general populace on a regular basis. This also includes some old iconic joints. Let's see what all we tried.

The first thing they tried was Pohe from Jagdish Shri Restaurant at Jagdish Chowk. This light breakfast dish made with pre soaked flattened rice, some basic spices and seasonings makes for a healthy snack. It was mildly savoury, sweet and tangy.

Then they headed to Nani Gali to have some rabri from Raju Bhai's Milk Shop. This small unassuming shop sells milk and just a few traditional milk products like paneer and rabri or fresh malai. It is the dense and sweet milk fat that appears on the top on simmering milk. For those of you who love malai should definitely check it out during your visit.

From there they reached Paliwal restaurant that is famous for crisp, flaky and spicy kachoris. Apart from the distinct hing flavour, the own garam masala added a zing to these kachoris. Kachori is the most ubiquitous snack in Rajasthan.

Next destination was Lala Mishtan Bhandar. Here they enjoyed the unique wintertime special sweet treat called lilwa burfi and the interesting sounding Jodhpuri pasa. The first one was a luscious burfi made with green chickpeas paste while the second one was a khoya based glazed sweet.

Then they went to Roop Ji Nashta Center near Ghanta Ghar, that is known for its humble papad masala. It is a combination of crisp flatbread and a spicy and flavourful potato masala. The old world charm of the place enhanced the eating experience.

After that hearty treat it was time to try methi ke gote, a traditional Gujarati snack from Gayatri restaurant. It is a crisp and soft fritter made with dried fenugreek, besan and some other spices. Here they serve it with a sweet and savoury kadhi.

The penultimate food stop was Trivedi Uphar Grah, a very old sweet shop that has existed since the time of Independence. After a brief chat with the owner they settled down to try doodh jalebi, urad and saunth ladoo and moong dal ladoo. All of them had a decent homely taste. What was intriguing is amidst all the competition, the place still conserved the traditions.

Overall it was a nice experience and they realized that the breakfast scene is dominated by fried snacks or ghee and mava based sweets that were filling and tasty.

UDAIPUR (MEWAR) Food Tour: MILLET Tikki & Pancake + Dhokla, PANIYE, BAATI + Makki ki RAABDI + Thali

► Subscribe to Delhi Food Walks:

► More street food from Rajasthan:

With all the grand palaces, other architecture and lakes, Udaipur is a beautiful city located in the southernmost part of Rajasthan. Also known as the 'White City' is the historical capital of the Mewar kingdom. Along with our amazing host Rajat, we have set out to discover the healthy, rustic and spicy flavours from this region. Come lets see what all did we try.

We commenced the food tour from Millets of Mewar, an Indian fusion restaurant that serves healthy and wholesome, less oil mostly millet based gluten foods. Founded by a team of three friends, it aims to bring back the glory and demand of the ancient native grains other than wheat and rice. From their fascinating menu we tried the millet aloo tikki and bajra pancake. The first one was a low oil zesty snack consisting of a potato and barnyard millet based tikki while the second was optimally sweet and yummy pearl millet flour pancake. The awesome food and the conversation with the passionate come owners of the place widened our perception towards the vibrant delicious world of ancient native grains.
From there moved to Sai Baba Paratha Center which had earned the reputation for serving the most delectable stuffed parathas in the city. On reaching there, the sight and aroma of thick stuffed parathas made us restless. Soon we got our serving of aloo parathas. They came with a blob of butter and a spicy dal. With all the goodness of spicy potato stuffing, ghee and butter, every morsel was truly captivating.

The next destination was a quirky place called Dhabalogy that serves rural traditional cuisine in a contemporary setting. Here we first saw the preparation and then savoured some classic Mewari delicacies like dal bati, paniya, dhokla, bajre ki roti and lahsun mirch chutney and til gur ladoo. The rustic cooking processes were very fascinating. The kitchen is primarily run by a genial and diligent team of womenfolk from the nearby villages whose warm smiles and courteous nature made us feel at home.
After that delicious traditional Mewari meal we drove to the place in the vicinity of Eklingji Mandir near Siyol. The lane opposite to the temple is famous for mirchi vadas. We tried some fresh ones from Sheetal restaurant. Made with a big sized less spicy variety of chilles, these potato stuffed fritters were spicy yet delicious.
Our next destination was the Shilpgram Mela which is a famous annual arts and craft fair that happens around the month of December. It showcases the traditional arts, craft and lifestyle of Rajasthan and is a huge crowd puller. Here we tried some healthy and tangy makki ki raab, budhiya ke baal and ghani ki jaglani. With all the colourful arts, craft and other fascinating activities, this place was quite a fun space.
The last food destination in this tour was Hotel Brahma Nivas. We were there to try a traditional Rajasthani thali that had a representative dish from different parts of the state. There was gatte ki sabzi, khurma roti, kadhi, dal, aloo meethi, churma etc. of which the most fascinating one was the chakki ki sabzi from jodhpur that had a taste and texture similar to malai kofta.

It was super gratifying food journey that acquainted us with some amazing aspects of the Mewari cuisine. Heartfelt thanks to Rajat for his insights and support.

Udaipur STREET FOOD Tour: Pandit Ji LEMON Tea + MASTERCHEF Egg BHURJI + Chapli KEBAB + TILAPIA Fish

► Subscribe to Delhi Food Walks:

► More street food from Rajasthan:

Today's episode features a general food tour in the city of Udaipur. In this gastronomic sojourn, Anubhav is joined by our gracious host Dr. Akansha Bhatia who is a doctor by profession and a foodie at heart. Together they are visiting some popular destinations to try their best selling or unique fares. Let's see what's in store.

They started with a cup of lemon tea from Pandit Ji ki Lemon Tea shop. This invigorating hot beverage was infused with numerous healthy ingredients like tulsi, mint, warming spices etc. True to its popularity,it was so refreshing that we ended up having two cups of it. Pandit ji enthusiastically shared some anecdotes about the place and particularly the tea that is loved by both young and old.

Next they went to Natraj Hotel to try a quintessential thali. The one that is available here is a potpourri of both Rajasthani and Gujarati flavours. What's fascinating about this place is that the celebrated food explorer and storyteller Anthony Bourdain who is Anubhav's idol had visited it in the year 2006. Thus it was very much on Anubhav's wish list. The thali was adorned with simple yet delicious homestyle flavours. Apart from the tasty food it was lovely interacting with the warm hospitable owner.

From there we went to The Egg World which is a hugely famous eatery that serves a delectable range of unique egg dishes. It is run by the genial and humble Jay who with his creativity and diligence has led the eatery to such heights of fame. Under his recommendation, we tried the boiled egg bhurji and tandoori omelette. With its spicy, quintessential Rajasthani flavours, the first dish was simply amazing.

Akansha then took us to Dawat Restaurant whose non veg snacks are super popular because of their fresh and balanced taste. They had an elaborate mouth watering menu. We went for some crisp and juicy chicken dana or nuggets, flavourful chapli kebab and crisp and hearty tilapia fish fry. Each of these three snacks were tasty but with the amazing texture and flavours coming from the chicken mince, eggs, veggies, butter, spices etc, the chapli kebabs were the best among the equal.

After those wonderful non veg treats we reached our last destination, Sai Sagar coffee shop. They serve a wide range of both hot and cold coffee blends along with the classic stuff. We settled for a frothy hot coffee that was strong, smooth and invigorating. The place was busing with an eclectic crowd of locals and tourists.

Heartfelt thanks to Akansha for acquainting us with some of the amazing flavours of her city.

KOTA BREAKFAST FOOD TOUR I Kachori + Samosa + Ghewar + Doodh Jalebi

Situated along the bank of river Chambal in Rajasthan, Kota is a growing city widely known for its industries and for being the coaching hub of India because of the huge concentration of engineering and medical coaching institutes.

In today's episode we are out on a breakfast tour with our young and dynamic host Saransh from Parindon Ka Safar, a youth centric community involved in travel, culture, heritage and arts based activities. With great enthusiasm we had set out to explore some old and famous places with someone who knows the city very closely. Let's take you through the breakfast scene in the streets of Kota.

Our first stop was Ratan Sweets and Namkeen. It's undoubtedly the most popular namkeen shop whose fans are from far and near. We tried some of their wide range of sev and nylon khaman. Their freshness and well balanced flavours came through well.

The second stop was Lalchand Agarwal Samose Wale. Locals swear by the fresh samosa and kachoris sold over here and one morsel of a hot samosa was enough for us to understand why it's so.

The third stop was Mohan Lal Sev Wale which is reportedly an over 100 years old establishment. We tried some kadke and water chestnut burfi at this nondescript place. Both of them were quite decent in taste.

The fourth stop was Sharda Mishtan Bhandar whose ghewar are much loved by the locals. They have a wide range of ghewar available all throughout the year. We tried the dried one with mawa and to our surprise it was delightful.

The fourth stop was Shambhu Mishtan Bhandar where we polished off a serving of doodh jalebi in a tall steel tumbler. The crisp and luscious crushed jalebis mixed with reduced milk was a brilliant combination.

The fifth stop was Suvalal Namkeen which is again a famous name for kachori and namkeen. The genial owner sweetly asks his customers how many kachoris they would want to have in one go. We found them to be decent ones in terms of taste.

The sixth stop was Agarwal Petha Bhandar. The petha workshop in their shop doles out fresh batches of this ash gourd based sweet daily. We loved the rose flavoured crunchy shahi petha that had just been prepared minutes ago.

The seventh stop was another busy kachori place Shyam Ji Kachoriwale, whose owner is known for being reticent and not very approachable. But his kachori served with chutney and curd are a hot selling thing.

The final stop of this charming food tour was Hari Om chai stall. This old tea stall seems like a slice from the past. The old furniture and ambience will take you back in time.

HUGE Jodhpuri Kachori Making in Kota I Dal Pakwan + Chota Ballu + Gupchup + Thakur Chai + Sweet Poha

After the breakfast and non veg food tour in Kota we are out for a brunch tour with our host Saransh from Parindon Ka Safar, a youth centric group that is engaged in travel, tours and arts based activities in the city. This gastronomic journey was an opportunity to explore some more favourite eateries in the city that caters to the common masses.

The first place was Babu Bhai Poha, a small food cart that is ever crowded during breakfast hours. Prepared in a simple manner, their poha is a filling, tasty and pocket friendly option for breakfast.

From there we went to Babu Tea Stall, a contemporary tea cafe that serves a wide range of traditional and new age tea. The latter category includes some mind boggling entries like kaju chai etc. We settled for the jaggery and ginger chai. It was pretty decent yet a little overpriced because of the set up.

The third stop was a 70 plus year old Sangam restaurant whose dal pakwaan has a loyal fan base. So we had to try it. The dal was creamy and mildly spiced. While departing we chanced upon mawa mishri which is a sweet very similar to kalakand.

Next stop was Jodhpur Namkeens whose pyaz kachori are super famous. The potato-tomato stuffing was well spiced and slightly tangy while the outer covering was crisp and flaky.

After this brilliant kachori, we went to SS Dairy for some sweetmeat. Their chhena based sweets looked quite tempting so we tried a gupchup, rasgulla and kheer mohan. Among these, we liked rasgulla the most because it was optimally sweet, soft and spongy.

Next was the turn of some South Indian flavours at New Madras Hotel which dates back to 1985. This place has a homelike ambience and at one time it was bustling with diners because it was the only spacious eatery in the city and the food too was amazing. We loved their crisp plain paper dosa that was served with smabar and chutney.

The penultimate stop was Amar Punjabi Dhaba, a iconic family restaurant serving North Indian food. They have an elaborate menu with amusing dish names. Our choice was the chota ballu which was Manchurian balls in makhni gravy and sev tamatar which was a spicy and tangy sev based curry. The former one was quite satisfying.

We ended the tour with a strong cutting tea from Thakur tea stall. The vibe of this place was quite a things.

Best ever JAIPUR Food TOUR I Kachori (Aloo, Heeng, Dal) Kesar Pista Makhan + Dal Pakwan + Gulab Chai

The historical lanes and streets of Jaipur are imbued with imprints of gastronomic glory. On this food tour, we are visiting some of the iconic street food places in the Old city which entail fascinating
legacy. The first stop was Gulab Chai Wale. This small shop is a hit with chai lovers from all walks of life. On our host Vinayak’s recommendation we tried the bun maska and masala chai combo.

The second stop was Shree Shyam Dal Pakwan Center where we tried the famous Sindhi dish called dal pakwan with mirchi ke tapore. The dal mixed with chutneys and spices was quite delicious and zesty.

The third stop was Sampat Kachori Bhandar whose potato masala stuffed kachori are the talk of the town. Contrary to our anticipation, the masala was quite mild and flavoursome. This was followed by two remarkable hing kachori from two renowned places named Sampat Kachori Bhandar and Puran Kachori Bhandar. At the first place it was served with yogurt while at the second it was served a spicy green chutney.

The penultimate stop was Gulab Chand Dairy where we tried a unique dessert called kesar pista makhan. This inhouse pistachio and saffron flavoured butter was simply divine. The last stop of this tour was Bhawar Lal Kailash Chand Halwai which is an over a century old establishment. Here we had moongthal and gulab kesari. Both these sweets were masterpieces because of their incredible taste and forms.

Bikaner Old City Food Walk | Kesariya FENI + Dal Kachori + GUJIYA Dahi Vada + GHAAL ke Laddoo

► Subscribe to Delhi Food Walks:

Chai Patti/Satta Bazar in Bikaner is an old locality where one can get some best traditional snacks mostly till afternoon. So during our food tour in this city, we decided to venture out on the old lanes of this busy center that is home to many brilliant stories and flavours.

Being a commercial area in the city, Chapatti is renowned for being one of the city's best snack points. Again it is one of the most popular places where people especially business men gather to unwind themselves over tea, snacks, casual chattings and satta which is a form of betting game. The last one is the most interesting feature of this place. The locals gather in groups to predict rains and commodity prices. It was a means of entertainment and camaraderie between the residents.

So our first stop in this old locality was Juniya Maharaj's ki Dukan that is said to serve the best dal kachoris. These spicy, crisp and flaky dal stuffed pastry are served with a tangy and spicy potato curry. The effortless combo of hearty kachoris and spicy curry can seldom fail to impress people.

Next we went to the opposite tea stop for a cup of strongly brewed chai as it is undoubtedly one of the effective means to rejuvenate oneself. The strong cardamom flavoured tea relieved all the lethargy. We loved the unassuming old ambiance of the place. The long benches brought floods of memories of old tea stalls.

Next with the help of a local we reached the very popular Brija Maharaj sweet shop. People are super fond of their desi ghee jalebis. During the pre covid era this stall would be bursting till seams with locals eager to relish some luscious jalebis along with kachoris samosa and a variety of traditional sweets. Despite the footfall they still remain the top sweet and snack shop in the vicinity. Here we also tried the healthy pandhari ke ladoo, soft and golden motipak and crisp balushahi ka petha.

After that we headed to this interesting shop called Graduate Kanji Vada. They specialise in kanji vada and dahi vada. We decided to try the later one because we had already tried kanji vada at one of our previous expeditions. With dry fruits stuffed lentil fritters, smooth beaten curd and roasted ground spices, the dahi vadas were quite toothsome.

From there we reached Laal Chand Roop Chand feniwale whose fenis are a wondrous stuff. First we tried the mishri rotis and loved it and next we relished the saffron flavoured fenis. The delicate nest-like structure made of super fine sweetened strands of maida was a culinary masterpiece because although it looked fragile, it was not. To everyone's surprise, the nest-like sweet treat regained its shape even after being squeezed tightly. It was here that Amit ji, our host had joined us.

Our last stop in this breakfast food walk was Jeshraj Shivraj sweet. You will find several sweet delights, especially some amazing so called nutritious ladoos. We tried the ghal ke ladoo, kitti laddo and gondpak. The way they transform milk and wheat flour into such brilliant sweets is a wondrous feat.

The old city food tour was a delight especially due to the stories and delicious snacks pervading the old nooks and crannies.
