Funafuti Airport Runway in Tuvalu ..... Feb 2003
During my 12 day Holiday in Funafuti the capital of Tuvalu, I couldn't help noticing the local young people using the airport runway for sport activities, of course this would never happen in the larger cities due to security at major airports, however it was nice to see the young people out & about exercising !!! unfortunately this doesn't happen much these days in many westernised countries due to being distracted with electronic devices PC's & Mobile phones, they have a lot to answer for !!!!

Part #4 of the Tuvalu by Bicycle series sees us trundling along the road towards Vaiaku town from the end of Fongafale Island, with Funafuti Lagoon on the left.

The 5th instalment of the Tuvalu by Bicycle series sees us starting in downtown Vaiaku (if you can call it that...) near the government office and airport terminal, and heading along Tuvalu Road north, finishing at the Niua Uta cafe for lunch. Got to earn a meal after riding around in the tropical heat.

Number 7 in the Tuvalu by bicycle series starts at the Vaiaku town office, and trundles along past the hospital and around the corner north towards (but not as far as) the port. All this on Fongafale Island, Funafuti Atoll, on a rusty old bicycle with no brakes.

Funafuti atoll, Tuvalu
This video shows the narrowest point of the island where Vaiaku (capital of Tuvalu) is, at Funafuti atoll.
I was there in 2004 for about 1 week, running a ham radio expedition with the callsign T20DX.

At left, the Pacific Ocean. At right, Funafuti lagoon. This just shows how vulnerable to sea-level rise Tuvalu is.
