The Best Views in Tuscany: Montepulciano & Pienza (Tuscany is Pretty Cheesy) | Italy Road Trip Ep. 5

Italy Vlog episode 5: In the fifth episode from our road trip through Italy we explore two great towns in Tuscany that offer some of the best views that we have seen on our trip: Montepulciano and Pienza. Montepulciano is famous for its wine production, but the town of Montepulciano itself is a fantastic sight. Renaissance buildings, great restaurants and beautiful views over the Val d'Orcia made us fall in love with Montepulciano. We also have an overly long discussion of signposts that lead to viewpoints.

We then leave Montepulciano to visit the town of Pienza, which is nearby. It’s a smaller town, but equally as beautiful and with almost even more stunning views over the Tuscan countryside. Pienza is also home to the famous cheese Pecorino di Pienza. The cheese has a distinctive flavour and comes in a broad variety of ages and varieties. Of course we had to give it a taste! We tried a really nice cheese platter and also Cacio e pepe with Pici (thick, hand-rolled pasta, like fat spaghetti).

In the previous episodes we spent some days eating and sightseeing in Rome, rented a classic Fiat 500 and drove to the Le Marche region in Italy, before heading off to Tuscany.

➡️ Subscribe if you want to come along for the journey!

????????
In Tuscany we’re staying close to Montepulciano and San Gimignano, but we’ll also explore many more towns from there, such as Siena, Pienza and Volterra. Our road trip ends in Florence, where we’ll also spend a few days sightseeing and trying out food specialities.

What way to better enjoy a European summer than a one week stint in the Tuscan countryside basking under the sun and sipping on vino? That’s exactly what we did! Follow us during this wonderful week, discover the hidden gems of Tuscany and perhaps plan your next road trip around this stunning region!

Breakdown of each location on the trip:

0:50 - San Gimignano
1:50 - Florence
4:38 - Montepulciano
7:41 - Siena

A Tour Of Tuscany - Florence & Montalcino

Things to do on a trip to Tuscany - art, food, and wine.
A great place to start your visit to the region of Tuscany is Florence.
The airport is about 30 minutes outside of the city.
Florence is home to many masterpieces of renaissance art and architecture. One of the main attractions for art lovers is The Uffizi Gallery. It's a world famous art museum located in the historic center of Florence. One of my favorites pieces was the Birth of Venus, a painting by the Italian artist Sandro Botticelli.

After taking in the art and architecture of the city, you can head to the countryside.
We went to Montalcino, about an hour and a half from Florence.
We toured Castiglion del Bosco winery, went truffle hunting at Podere Poggio a Campoli, and rode horses.
We ended our trip at the thermal baths of Saturnia.

Have you been to Tuscany? Let me know where you went!

Tuscany - Road trip - Travel memory

This trip captures the essence of Tuscany, Italy.

A road trip through Tuscany traveling through dramatic landscapes, and historic landmarks while enjoying good food and wine.

The shots are from the lavish countryside around the areas of Siena and quaint locations that we stumbled upon.

We travelled with two cars going around historical attractions such as Siena, Monteriggioni, Pitigliano, San Gimignano, Abbazia di San Galgano and the capital of Tuscany, the city of Florence.

During the journey, we encountered several vineyards and did a tour of a wine estate in the region of Orvieto which is a known region for its good wines.
