5-Hour IST Istanbul INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LAYOVER Guide!!

???????? LEARN MORE ABOUT TURKEY:

After flying 10 hours from my hometown of Miami to IST International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, I had a five-hour layover before my next flight to my 84th country, Georgia! Join me as I experience an epic 5 hours in Istanbul, Turkey!

I’ve been wanting to visit Georgia for the past two years, ever since I visited Armenia, their neighbor to the south. I’d be traveling through the country for 11 full days, which would take me all over the country. I’d start in the capital, Tbilisi, and end in the city of Batumi on the Black Sea.

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

But while I was at IST Airport, I decided to give you guys a full breakdown of everything you can do there! It’s one of the best airports on the planet and only opened in 2018. The airport has, among other things, over 30 restaurants, luxury shopping, a 24-hour pharmacy, a library, a spa, and the YotelAir hotel, along with a huge duty-free area!

On a layover, you can head up to their Business Class lounge, where you can chill out and eat some delicious foods like pide, salads, breads, and minced meat. The pide is fantastic! It’s like a Turkish pizza and comes topped with cheese, fresh vegetables, and more!

In the lounge, I met a fan before heading down to the bazaar, where you can buy some Turkish delights, which are dense, jelly-like sweets covered in powdered sugar. The woman selling them let me have as many as I wanted! The finger Turkish delights were the best!

The bazaar is also a great place to buy souvenirs. There’s also a Lego store, a Shake Shack, and a couple of food courts. One of them is Anatolia Cuisine, where they have several spots selling everything from pide to kebabs to baklava. The pistachios in the baklava were amazing.

Next to the baklava vendors is a guy serving Turkish ice cream. The vendors love to play with you by taking the cone and ice cream away from you! They’re too funny and so fast! It was so silky. I’m not a sweets guy but the ice cream was awesome!

Then, I headed to the only spot in the airport where you could get a drink and got some yeni raki. You mix it with some water and it turns milky. One drink costs about $10 USD!

If you have a long layover, you can stay at the YotelAir hotel in the duty-free area. It has 174 cabins that offer free WiFi, mini-fridges, flatscreen TVs, rainfall showers, a breakfast buffet, and a fitness center.

Above Anatolia Cuisine is a second food court, which offers lots of Western food like Subway, Sbarro, Popeyes, and Carl Jr’s. I headed to the international terminal and headed to Gate B1B to board my Business Class flight.

The flight would only be about 2 hours. I enjoyed some champagne before we took off.

The flight was on an Airbus 321, which had a 2-2 configuration. They had a TV and reclining seats. I watched a movie and then went with hummus, lamb chops, cheese, and French Syrah wine. I also got salmon, shrimp, and rice pudding.

The salmon and creamy shrimp salad were super fresh. I also liked the gouda cheese and the smoked fish. The hummus was also fantastic! I also had a nice piece of parmesan, which I loved! I also loved the French Syrah wine, which was bold and super high quality.

My lamb chop was cooked so well. I enjoyed it with some Ancyra Cabernet Cauvignon-Syrah from the Cappadocia region. It also came with potatoes with cheese and herbs. I also liked the creamy rice pudding, which was almost like a crème brulee. Turkish food is so underrated!

And after 19 hours of travel, I arrived in Tbilisi, Georgia. I couldn’t wait to start my adventure!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

ISTANBUL, TURKEY | 7 INCREDIBLE Things To Do In Istanbul!

Istanbul is located in the northwest of Turkey and is the largest city in the country. It’s not the capital city of Turkey, but is known as the country’s economic, cultural and historic center. There are many historical places to visit as well as lots of interesting art, architecture, culinary heritage, and a vibrant local atmosphere. Try to stay at least 3 to 5 days in this bustling city to be able to enjoy the many things to do. In this video we'll highlight 7 INCREDIBLE things to do in Istanbul, Turkey!

7. Istiklal Street
The 7th best thing to do in Istanbul is to explore the vibrant Istiklal Street. Istiklal is the busiest street in the city, comparable to Oxford Street in London or Fifth Avenue in New York City. This long stretch has a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and much more.

✅Istanbul Food Tour:

6. “Relax” at a Hamam
The Turkish bath, or hamam, is an important part of Turkish culture. It’s a type of steam bath and also a place of public bathing that was used primarily within the Ottoman Empire starting in the 16th century. There are about 60 baths in Istanbul, offering just the traditional bath or including massages. The price can range from $15 to $50.

5. Galata Bridge & Bosphorus
The 5th best thing to do in Istanbul is to walk the Galata Bridge in the heart of Istanbul. This bridge spans the Golden Horn and stretches between modern Istanbul on the north and the Old Town of Istanbul on the south. The Golden Horn is actually an inlet of the Bosphorus river, which forms the border between the European and the Asian continent.

4. Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace is an architectural highlight in Istanbul and therefore ranks at number 4. Home to the Ottoman sultans for nearly 400 years, this palace was the heart of the vast Ottoman Empire. The palace has hundreds of rooms decorated with beautiful tiles, gold, and other decorations.

3. Galata Tower
The 3rd best thing to do in Istanbul is to visit the Galata Tower. This historic tower sits high above the city and is visible from all angles. It was once used as a watchtower, but is now converted into a museum. It offers the best view of Istanbul!

2. Shop at the Grand & Spice Bazaar
The runner-up activity is to shop at the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar. Both are located in the old town of Istanbul, near the Galata Bridge. The Spice Bazaar is a giant covered market with the majority of shops selling food. The market is also close to the Grand Bazaar, which is the true centre of hustle and bustle. With over 4,000 shops, the Grand Bazaar has a little bit of everything.

Hagia Sophia + Free Walking Tour
The best thing to do in Istanbul is to visit the Hagia Sophia. Located in the heart of Sultanahmet, this is one of the most impressive and important buildings ever constructed. It’s now free to enter, but to fully understand the importance of this building we encourage you to go on a “free walking tour”. Free walking tours run daily at 10:30AM.

Turkish Food Tour in Istanbul - BEST Kebabs of My Life, AMAZING Seafood, and Turkish Ice Cream!

►Check out my Istanbul Travel Food Guide:
►Subscribe to my videos:
►Camera gear I use:

The first thing we did in the morning in Istanbul was drive over to Beşiktaş to eat an amazing Turkish food breakfast at a restaurant called Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu. From there we took the ferry across the Bosphorus to Kadiköy, where we had an incredible Turkish seafood meal for lunch. Finally, we enjoyed some Turkish ice cream, and the show, and had the most incredible kebab I’ve ever had in my life at Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. It was an amazing day of Turkish food in Istanbul!

1:27 Turkish breakfast at Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu - For breakfast we headed to Beşiktaş, one of my favorite areas of Istanbul, and went to a restaurant known for serving breakfast. The breakfast was amazing, and I ate a dish of eggs with beef and butter. The side dishes were also fantastic. Total price - 29 TL ($9.73)

7:40 Boat to Kadiköy and Kadiköy Market - During our trip so far to Istanbul, we hadn’t had a chance to go to the Asian side of Istanbul. So today, we took the ferry over to Kadiköy pier on the Asian side across the Bosphorus. The views of Istanbul from the Bosphorus were stunning. On the other side, the main thing I wanted to do was explore Kadiköy Market, which was every bit as colorful as I had imagined. The fresh vegetables and seafood were fantastic, and I tried a cup of pickle juice.

1 Week Ago in Mumbai:

12:45 Seafood lunch at Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant - Of all the meals I ate in Istanbul, this was one of my personal favorites, being a seafood lover. Not a far walk from the market, we went to a local family run seafood restaurant called Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant. The owners were really friendly, and I ordered a plate of hamsi (which are anchovies), and I’m not sure of the name of the other dish, but I got Black Sea salmon braised in olive oil and butter I think with herbs and spices. It was one of the best Turkish foods I ate the entire trip to Istanbul. Wow, it was amazing.

20:50 Turkish Ice Cream - After spending some time exploring the Asian side of Istanbul, we took the ferry back to the European side, and since Istiklal Street was on our route, we stopped to have Turkish ice cream. You also see Turkish ice cream vendors playing with their customers, but when you’re the victim, it’s so confusing and funny. They have some serious skills playing with Turkish ice cream. Do you like Turkish ice cream?

23:49 Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant - For our final Turkish food meal of the day, we headed over to Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. Ocakbaşı is a type of Turkish grill, and they served all sorts of different meat included kebabs and lamb chops in particular. We also got a bunch of side dishes and they cooked the kebabs and lamb chops right in front of us within the center of the restaurant. The kebab was the best I’ve ever had in my mouth, with an amazing mixture of minced meat and spices. Total price - 100 TL ($33.55). Thank you to David from for the recommendation.

12 Hour LAYOVER in ISTANBUL AIRPORT!! Turkish Kebabs + YOTELAIR Room Tour | IST Airport, Turkey

???? YOTELAIR:
???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE KOSOVO & ALBANIA SHIRTS:

After my epic, 9-day road trip through Kosovo, I had a 12-hour layover in Istanbul, Turkey, on my way back home to Miami. Come along with me as I explore Istanbul Airport, enjoy some delicious Turkish kebabs, and give you a tour of my YOTELAIR room!

This leg of my travel experience began at Istanbul International Airport, one of the biggest airports in the world! It opened in 2018 and over 52 million people passed through it in 2019. It’s massive! They even have a barbershop and a hotel called YOTELAIR in the duty-free area.

Because of the complexities of the times, I decided to book a room there. It costs $176 for the room, and I paid an extra $30 to get breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks included. This hotel is the best option if you’re transiting through the airport.

I masked up and headed up to my room in the hotel. During COVID times, only 2 people can be in the elevator at a time. My room, 1002, was on the first floor. It was a small room with colorful mood lighting. You can only stay here if you’re connecting and have a boarding pass for the next day.

There’s a reclining queen-sized bed, a mirror, a space for clothes and luggage, a TV, a fold-out table, wall outlets for plugs and USBs, a bathroom, and some water! It’s nice and easy, but it is expensive. But it’s less tiring than the alternative!

I didn’t have to leave until noon the next day, so I relaxed and took it easy until the morning. The bed was amazing! I slept for nine straight hours.

It was 9:30 a.m., so I had 2.5 hours until boarding. I wanted to find some good Turkish food. There are a lot of shops and stores there. I headed to Cuisine Anatolia, a food court where there were several restaurants selling Turkish food. I was hoping for some kebabs!

I decided on Ocakbasi, where they had a kebab wrap and more. I ordered some spicy kebabs, but they weren’t ready yet, so I went to get buy some things for my kids! I saw some beautiful silk rugs, cured meats, tea sets, and lots of other local products like chocolate, coffee, tea, and candies. There was a huge stand of Turkish delights! They had pomegranate, chocolate, honey, and rose flavors!

I also found some Nakkas slippers and some gorgeous lamps. I spent about 75 Euros on chocolates, Turkish delights, and slippers and bags for my kids. Then, it was time to eat!

I got some spicy kebabs and red wine. Overall, it cost 29 Euros. The wine was fruity and dry! I accidentally ordered two kebabs, so I would take the second on the plane.

The kebab was wrapped up like a burrito. The meat inside was nice and spicy, with lots of herbs and thin, delicious bread. It was super tasty and wasn’t too spicy, but was rich in spices. It also contained tomatoes and onions. Turkish cuisine is so unique and diverse. It was easily one of the best kebab wraps I’ve ever had!

This food court is amazing! I loved eating something traditional and Turkish there.

After I ate, I explored more of the airport. There’s an area with luxury shops like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, and Fendi.

Then, my gate opened, so I went back to the hotel to get my things and headed to my gate in Terminal A. The airport is super easy to navigate. I was ready to get home!

They checked all my bags as I went through three security checkpoints. Then, I boarded my plane: a 787 with a 3-3-3 configuration. I had a 12-hour flight ahead of me!

After 12 hours, I landed back in Miami! I was so excited to be home!

Istanbul Street Food - DELICIOUS Turkish Kofte and Breakfast on Turkish Airlines!

Day 8: Istanbul, Turkey - On Day 8, we flew on Turkish Airlines and from Muscat to Istanbul. The flight on Turkish Airlines was fantastic, and I had my first ever Turkish breakfast while in the sky. We then checked into The Ritz-Carlton hotel, and had some amazing Istanbul street food kofte for lunch. Istanbul is a city that I’ve always wanted to visit, and I can’t wait to explore and eat more Turkish food!

0:15 Turkish Breakfast on Turkish Airlines - To begin this day and video my wife and I were on a flight with Turkish Airlines (member of Star Alliance) from Muscat, Oman to Istanbul, Turkey. Turkish Airlines is an amazing airlines, and on business class they served us Turkish breakfast since we happen to fly into Istanbul early in the morning. Bread, olives, cheese, honey, and then the main dish included eggs and vegetables. Great flight with Turkish Airlines!

2:42 Istanbul Atatürk Airport - We arrived to Istanbul very early in the morning and after grabbing our bag, we found the bus outside the terminal to go to Taksim Square. The bus cost 11 TL ($3.73) per person.

4:57 The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul - Marriott Hotels sponsored my stay in Istanbul, and it was an honor to have the opportunity to stay at the The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul, which is located just a 5 minute walk from Taksim Square, with a fantastic view of the Bosphorus. We got all checked in, and the room was fantastic.

7:44 Istanbul Street Food - Kofte Sandwich Stall - After taking a little rest in the hotel and drinking some coffee, Ying and I were both pretty hungry. There’s a small Istanbul street food stall that serves amazing grilled kofte, just down the street from The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul, and that’s exactly where we headed, right at lunch time. Before ever arriving I could smell the aroma of the meat on the grill and then I could see the colorful display of peppers and parsley surrounding the grill as well. I ordered a kofte sandwich, and after toasting the bread, he added in a bunch of little meat kofte patties, some tomatoes and onions and peppers, seasoned with some spices and chili powder and handed it to me. For 10 TL ($3.40) for sandwich and drink, this was about as good as it could possibly get for Istanbul street food! Wow it was so good.

12:17 Taksim Square and Turkish Coffee at Mandabatmaz (Istiklal Street) - After that amazing kofte sandwich, we continued walking through Taksim Square, one of the most famous landmarks of Istanbul and then on to the walking Istiklal street. The highlight for me was stopping at Mandabatmaz for a cup of the most amazing Turkish coffee I’ve ever had. Turkish coffee - 5 TL ($1.70).

17:04 Fish and Meat House - At this point Ying and I were starting to get really sleepy - we hadn’t really slept the night before. So we stopped for an early dinner at Fish and Meat House to have some grilled fish. I had the grilled sea bream, which was simple and plain but excellently fresh and cooked perfectly. The salad was also delicious. Total price for everything - 74 TL ($25.12).
