Trying Must-Eat Dishes in Taipei! Featuring $10,000 Beef Noodle Soup!

Taipei has one of the best food scenes in Asia and in this video, we try some of the must-eat dishes in the city. We start the day off at Soy Milk King, a small hole in the wall eatery popular with the locals for a carb overload breakfast before washing it down with salty soy bean soup. Next up, we make our way to bustling Wanhua to try a steaming bowl of Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodles, a rich bonito flake base broth filled with silky smooth noodles. For lunch, we visit Jin Feng, a Taiwanese staple when it comes to their famous Braised Pork Rice. Similar to Shanghainese Hong Shao Rou, Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice is a decadent mixture of fatty pork stewed with an assortment of sauces and spices poured over a steaming bowl of white rice. Next up, $10,000TWD beef noodles at Niu Ba Ba before settling down with a delicious bubble pearl milk tea at one of Chun Shui Tang’s many stores. Finally, to end the night, we head to the famous Tonghua Night Market to try out some of their delicious snacks. We spend the rest of the evening chowing down on everything from Da Chang Bao Xiao Chang, to Peanut Brittle Ice Cream Spring Rolls! It’s all here in our latest episode of Hawker Style, our original videos series exploring street food from across the globe.

The Chef Obsessed With Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup (Chef’s Plate Ep. 15)

Taiwanese beef noodle soup is a complex dish. There is no one set recipe, and it can take days just to make one bowl. The soup can take on many different flavor profiles depending on how people choose to cook it. At Ho Foods in New York, Taiwanese-American chef Richard Ho believes he’s landed on the recipe that best replicates the homemade beef noodle soup he had growing up in Los Angeles.

I'm a Taiwanese American that grew up in Southern California and have moved back to Taiwan to Taipei in 2012. Join me and my wife as we explore Taiwan's night markets, popular and hidden destinations.

We'll explore Taiwan's Night Markets, street foods and travel scene. Along with the popular places in Taiwan, over time we'll go in depth to many places other youtubers never visit since we know most of the local and hidden spots and are able to explore smaller towns and far away villages that need a car to reach. Taiwan is a magical island with tens of thousands of temples, shrines, amazing food, endless 7-11s and boba shops and vending machines.

I'll give you my perspective having lived in both countries for many years.

TAIWAN V.8: December 30, 2016

Day 8 was spent traveling from Hualien to Taipei, where we visit the Chiang Kai-shek memorial, and then head to Yong Kang for some Beef Noodle Soup.

After lunch, we walk around 228 Peace Park, and play with some native squirrels.

Our next stop is Longshan Temple, and we pass by the Presidential Office Building where an important ceremony is taking place.

After we check into our Airbnb, we head back out to see the Sun Yat-sen memorial, go up to the top of Taipei 101, eat braised pork rice bowl, and finally end the night with a bowl of mango shaved ice.

By now you’ve realized we suck at ending our vlogs, but you still love us, right? Right.

Thanks for sticking around!

The Best Snacks in Shanghai! Featuring Xiao Long Bao and Stinky Tofu! (Part 1)

You may know Shanghai as the home of xiao long bao, king of all dumplings, but the city definitely has a lot more to offer if you know where to look. Join us for Part 1 of our Shanghai Snacks series as we spend the entire day zipping through the city to try some of the best snacks in town. We started the day early with some crispy fried dough and sweet soy bean milk before hitting up the best xiao long bao joints in the city for lunch. Afterwards, we stopped to try the infamous stinky tofu and the subtly sweet osmanthus rice cake. Last but not least, we finished the night off with a big platter of Shanghai Fried Noodles, a staple of any night out. It’s all in our latest episode of Hawker Style, our original videos series exploring street food from across the globe.
