Truk Lagoon Micronesia (Chuuk) Ghost Fleet Wreck Diving 2017

Footage is available for license contact Becky@LiquidProductions.com - (Chuuk) is known as one of the best shipwreck diving locations on the planet due to the large number of sunken ships and planes in a sheltered area. In February 1944 the United States Navy launched a large surface and air attack for 3 days called Operation Hailstone sinking over 40 ships, and destroying more than 275 planes. Truk was the Japanese anchorage during WWII and the USA took out merchant ships, battleships, destroyers, tankers, minesweepers, and gunboats making this area the largest shipwreck graveyard in the world. This video was shot in December 2017.

I lived in Chuuk for two years. I went to many remote islands and did a lot of diving. I communicated with the local people and had invaluable experiences. This video is a compilation of my photos and videos. Micronesia is consisted with Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae.

Scuba Diving on the wreck of the San Francisco Maru, Truk Lagoon
Scuba Diving on the wreck of the San Francisco Maru, aka the “Million Dollar Wreck”, in Truk Lagoon, Chuuk, Micronesia.
San Francisco Maru is a Japanese merchant ship that was sunk by American carrier aircraft during WWII as part of Operation Hailstone on February 18, 1944. It currently lies in approximately 200ft of water with its decks at around 160ft and holds around 180ft putting this wreck solidly in the technical diving territory. Its bow deck gun remains in place. Much of its cargo, including mines, trucks, and tanks, remains intact on its decks and in its holds.

Located in Micronesia, and the resting ground for numerous Japanese ships from the the WWII battle Hailstorm, Truk (or Chuuk) Lagoon is a wreck divers paradise. The Truk Odyssey was our home for the week, and this boat does everything right. The crew was amazing, and we enjoyed a perfect week of diving.

St Albans Sub-Aqua Club visit the shipwrecks of Truk Lagoon. In 1944 the US navy sunk about 45 ships of the Japanese merchant fleet. It is now one of the major scuba diving destinations in the world.
