We had a special day out from Marrakesh, Morocco today with Hassan from Morhara Morocco Tours. Our first stop was on the way to the Ourika Valley where we visited a traditional family home and we were able to experience inside the home and how they cook, eat, host people and live day to day.
Then we headed up towards the mountains for a great short hike to the beautiful waterfalls with local guide Mohammed.
Thank you to Hassan for a fantastic day tour which we can highly recommend as a must-do when visiting Marrakesh!

Day trip to Ourika Valley | Morocco | Atlas Mountain
The High Atlas, North Africa’s greatest mountain range, contains some of the most intriguing and beautiful regions of Morocco.
Ourika Valley is a valley in the Moroccan High Atlas along the Ourika River. It is a popular day-trip destination of Marrakech. It is located around 30 km from Marrakech, and is essentially populated by Berber people speaking Shilha. Despite its proximity to Marrakech, it is still considered a relatively well-preserved valley, by its very nature a and traditional mountain way of life. The Ourika falls at Setti Fatma are a popular day trip.
Setti-Fatma is the last small town which is accessible by the paved route. It is the departure point for many excursions to the nearby mountains. The most prized and most easy hike consists of mounting the length of a mountain torrent in order to discover the cascades.

Less than 60 km. from city of Marrakech in Morocco is Fatima Village in the Ourika Valley where the High Atlas of the Atlas Mountains of North Africa is majestically located.
Wife surprised me with a day tour that includes a short hike that goes up to a stunning view from the mountain.
We met local folks and visited a typical Berber house. Berbers are the native people of Morocco.
A quick lunch then we headed back to the city to our beautiful Riad, Riad Azra, Marrakech.

OURIKA VALLEY [MOROCCO] - High Atlas Mountains Adventure!
Day trip to Ourika Valley in the High Atlas mountain range of Morocco! Waterfall hike from Setti Fatma, we drove out of Marrakech to escape the hustle and bustle. Enjoying a day out in nature and learning some of the Berber culture, Mint Tea, tagine by the river and Argan oil. We then hiked up the 7 waterfalls hike although we only saw 1 main waterfall before heading back down, our trail guide told us the other waterfalls were much further and more like a multi day hike. Make sure you bring some sturdy shoes if you're heading this way as the waterfall hike is quite slippery.
