Things to Know Before Visiting Rio de Janeiro

Things to Know Before Visiting Rio de Janeiro

Is Rio de Janeiro safe is one of the most common questions i get asked. We always hear on the news that these countries are dangerous and that there are a lot of political issues. As long as you are careful, and don’t do anything that you shouldn’t do. Technically it is not as safe as Europe, Australia, United States or other first world countries, but it’s just about being street smart.

In Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana is the most famous place in Rio de Janeiro, but I don’t necessarily recommend that you stay here. Overall don’t walk around with expensive stuff on you and don’t walk on the streets at night.

Today it’s quite easy to get a visa to visit Brasil. Uber is legal here and is widely used in Brasil which cost me approximately 40 usd to get from the airport to the beach.

If you want to have internet or a phone while you travel in Brasil or Rio de Janeiro, I recommend that you buy a sim card at the airport, it’s easier than to do that in any kind of store.

The most popular time to visit Brasil is in February, when the biggest carnaval takes place in Rio de Janeiro. During high season, prices are much higher and everything is more complicated. Brasil is south of the equator so it’s summer there during the “normal” winter. Which means that high season is from December - March. It gets really hot during summer here so ensure you get a room with AC as it get way too hot otherwise.

Let me know if there is any other countries or cities you wanna hear about, I have travelled to most countries in the world and keep doing so, so you can just comment below if you have any questions concerning any country or city in the world. I am happy to share some of my life as a wandering trader.

Historic Centre of Salvador de Bahia - Brazil ???????? Travel & Discover

Salvador de Bahia was the first capital of Brazil, from 1549 to 1763, witnessed the fusion of European, African and American cultures. It was also, from 1558, the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on sugar plantations. The city has managed to preserve many exceptional Renaissance buildings. A special feature of the historic center are the brightly colored houses, often decorated with refined stuccos. (

CONVERSATIONS IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

This is a trip I filmed two years in the beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I wanted to explore the beaches, the hiking, the food but also understand the culture and the coexistence of the favelas and the more developed areas we know as tourists, like Ipanema and Copacabana. I tried to get this understanding by speaking with two local Brazilians who live and work in Rio. I rented a room in Santa Teresa from a local Brazilian/American woman, Theresa, who is head of a great NGO call Catalytic Communities I then rented an apartment from Fabio, whose work you can find here
To help support my production expenses and keep me uploading more videos more often any kind of donation would be amazing! Here is the link to my crowdfunding page:
I film and edit alone, travelling the world as a one-girl production company with tripods, drones and multiple cameras. Ultimate Rio de Janeiro experience

Rio wasn't love at first site. First it felt like yet another huge city filled with traffic, poverty and pollution. But on the second sight we started to see through the mist of a metropole and discovered lives of real people and their stories both in favelas and in some fancy neighbourhoods and that’s what've made all the difference.

Staying in favela was definitely once in a lifetime experience :)

Time Travel to Salvador | BRAZIL

The city of Salvador has been on my bucket list every since Black in Latin America Documentary aired on PBS. Salvador is incredible city with major afro influence as it was the first slave port in the America. The scenery is amazing, whether we were on the Porto da Barra Beach or in the colonial and historic town of Pelourinho.
