Would you ride a train from San Francisco to Los Angeles??! Losing my AMTRAK virginity

My FIRST TIME riding an Amtrak ever!! Might even be the first time I've ever ridden a train in the US!!

I've always been a train riding enthusiast, because you can just chill and enjoy the views. The train also takes you through paths only assessible by train, which gives you more unique sceneries than if you drive. Since I've driven and flown between San Francisco and Los Angeles numerous times, why not try the Amtrak?!

How does it feel like to lose my Amtrak virginity?? Please watch the video and enjoy!!!

I will update my blog to give a more personal touch to my experience.

In this video, I boarded the Coast Starlight which services between Seattle and Los Angeles, and I hopped on from Emeryville Station. The entire trip took about 12 hours, making stops at San Jose, Salinas, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and finally at the Union Station in Los Angeles. You can choose different types of seating:
- Sleeper (wasn't available for our leg of the trip, but available if you start your journey from Seattle)
- Roomette $307 (we paid $392 total for 2 passengers, meals included)
- Business $99
- Coach $67
*prices may vary depending on the date of departure

Amtrak California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco

Amtrak’s California Zephyr will blow your mind. If you’re thinking of taking the ultimate Amtrak train journey, watch this!

With its unmatched scenery, Amtrak’s California Zephyr should top not just your train trip list, but your entire travel bucket list.

In this video, we’ll travel from Chicago to San Francisco onboard Amtrak’s California Zephyr in a luxurious Bedroom, the ultimate Amtrak Train accommodation. We’ll also explore the California Zephyr Roomette to see how big that train accommodation really is!

And, for the first time ever, I’ll even show you the shower on the California Zephyr.

You’ll see the sights, the food, and gain insight into what it’s like to travel on Amtrak’s most scenic train: The California Zephyr.

Amtrak’s California Zephyr train was named for the original train operated jointly by the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad; the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad; and the Western Pacific Railroad. It was inaugurated March 19, 1949.

From its earliest days, the marketing and advertising for the California Zephyr train route has focused on the spectacular views along the way. And, in this video, you will see why!

This video started with five and a half hours of raw California Zephyr footage, distilled down to the best. That was a tough task because nearly every mile of the California Zephyr’s 2,438 mile journey was spectacular.

Yeah, I could've flown from Los Angeles to San Francisco, but where's the fun in that? In this video, I arrive in Los Angeles, pick up the Amtrak Coastal Starlight from Los Angeles' Union Station, show you what it's like to travel in business class, with exceptional views as we head up the central coast of California, before arriving late, in San Francisco.

Series: South West America | Episode: 1 / 18

52 hrs on Amtrak Sleeper Train - Chicago to San Francisco

Head to to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code TREKTRENDY

Join me on the California Zephyr sleeper train for 52 hours across America. Starting in Chicago and travelling over 2,500 miles and various states to San Francisco. This has to be one of the world's most epic train journeys, and I'll show you every detail of the experience. From a tour of the three classes of travel... Coach, Roomettes ( Business Class ) all the way to Amtrak Bedrooms which come with ensuite bathrooms ( First Class ). Oh and what's more there's even showers onboard!
I'll try the various food options available in the dining car.. hint, they have my favourite... steak!

I'll get the chance to briefly get off the train at some of the stations along the way such as in Denver's Union Station, Grand Junction and Sacramento California.

My aim is to give you an insight into this experience, what it's really like to spend three days on a sleeper train. You'll see pretty soon why Amtraks California Zephyr is named the most scenic route in the USA and also why the railroad itself is such an engineering achievement.

Hope you enjoy the video, it took many days to edit after going through hours upon hours of footage.

Today I’m taking this Amtrak sleeper train across the USA from New York to Los Angeles. The journey will take around 62 hours, passing through 12 states and 3,000 miles. I’m actually taking my Dad along with me today so let’s see how we get on in a roomette, and then for the longer stage of the journey the Amtrak Bedroom. I’ll show you what the dining options are like for each meal, the variety of classes, from First Class to coach and how you shower onboard. This is one of the longest train journeys I’ve taken to date and I can’t wait to share with you each step of the way.

Now this is a little different to many of my other train adventures, you can't exactly call this luxury but it's iconic and showcases the excitement of travelling across the entire continent of North America by train. You see things differently when crossing by rail.
