Nel contesto storico precedente alla liberalizzazione dei servizi ferroviari internazionali, l'assetto dei collegamenti passeggeri lungo l'asse del Frejus era stato definito nel 1996 con un accordo fra FS e SNCF che prevedeva la commercializzazione congiunta di tali servizi da parte di un Gruppo Europeo di Interesse Economico (GEIE) denominato Artesia. In luogo del materiale ordinario tradizionalmente utilizzato era invalso l'uso di una flotta mista di elettrotreni politensione costituita da cinque TGV e da tre ETR 460 Pendolino appositamente attrezzati per tali servizi.
L'affacciarsi sul mercato di soggetti privati potenzialmente concorrenti e soprattutto la possibilità da parte dei singoli operatori nazionali storici di effettuare i servizi in regime di autoproduzione e concorrenza spinse SNCF e Trenitalia, nel frattempo subentrata alle FS, ad attuare una differente politica di alleanze preludio allo svolgimento in proprio di alcuni servizi.
Dopo l'attrezzaggio del parco veicoli dedicato per la circolazione sulla rete italiana con l'adozione del Sistema Controllo Marcia Treno (SCMT) nel dicembre 2011 i servizi viaggiatori internazionali sulla linea del Frejus furono presi formalmente in carico dalla nuova Società Viaggiatori Italia.
Dall'11 dicembre di tale anno, l'orario venne dunque rimodulato con tre coppie di TGV attestate a Milano Porta Garibaldi, dov'è allestita apposita biglietteria personale di macchina e viaggiante in Italia alle dipendenze di SVI. L'attrezzaggio con i sistemi di sicurezza italiani di tali treni e la scarsa affidabilità mostrata dagli ETR 460 aveva precedentemente comportato una diminuzione complessiva dell'offerta e, fra il 2009 e il 2011, la parziale indisponibilità degli stessi TGV, con il ritorno di alcuni servizi al materiale ordinario.
Per l'espletamento dei servizi Italia-Francia viene utilizzato il sottogruppo di elettrotreni TGV Reseau numerati 4501-4505, appositamente attrezzati per l'esercizio sulla rete italiana ma dotati del solo SCMT, non in grado dunque percorrere la linea ad alta velocità Torino-Milano.

My first TS video for a while - after an update some time ago Windows 10 had decided it wanted to show the taskbar when running the Train Maps Live plugin by Ben Hayward (link below) - it seems to be a problem when running TS in windowed mode as required by TML, however I just found a fix in Windows settings so I'm back recording some of my gameplay.
This is a short tutorial run on the new route produced by G-Trax and sold by DTG via the Steam client. I fired up the route and recorded my first run 'straight out of the box' as it were. Based in 1939 it seems to be a well made route with lots of atmosphere and the SN 1003 unit is fun to drive, with an interesting early form of in-cab signalling. I'll try the other loco later but for now it's time to run the first 'tour' scenario.....

The TGV (French: TurboTrain à Grande Vitesse and then Train à Grande Vitesse, high-speed train) is France's intercity high-speed rail service, operated by SNCF. SNCF worked on a high-speed rail network from 1966 to 1974 and presented the project to President Georges Pompidou who approved it. Originally designed as turbotrains to be powered by gas turbines, TGV prototypes evolved into electric trains with the 1973 oil crisis. In 1976 the SNCF ordered 87 high-speed trains from Alstom. Following the inaugural service between Paris and Lyon in 1981 on the LGV Sud-Est (LGV for Ligne à Grande Vitesse; high-speed line), the network, centered on Paris, has expanded to connect major cities across France (including Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Rennes, and Montpellier) and in neighboring countries on a combination of high-speed and conventional lines. The TGV network in France carries about 110 million passengers a year.
