Snow in Julian. San Diego's Favorite Mountain Town
Is there snow in Julian??!! As a big winter storm moved into Southern California, I kept my eyes glued to the Julian weather forecast starting on a Thursday night in March 2012.
I kept waiting for the latest update from the National Weather Service to see if there would be plenty of falling snow in Julian, California for my wife and I to enjoy for the weekend.
I didn't want to book an expensive hotel room in Julian (it's only expensive during fall weekends and whenever it snows) only to find the weather changed and brought rain instead of snow to Julian and the surrounding mountains.
Friday passes and I'm still not convinced.
Finally, Saturday morning, the NWS updates its forecast to say it's highly probably several inches of snow would fall in Julian!
Oooh. Was everyone else having the same idea as me to make the hour's drive from coastal San Diego into our local mountains to enjoy the snow? Would that mean there would be no more hotel rooms available in Julian?
Ahhh. I found one Julian Bed & Breakfast that had one room left. I snatched it, told my wife it was time to pack, and off we went...hoping to beat the storm so we could get through before any possible road closures and to enjoy the watching the snowflakes fall over Julian and collect on the branches of pine trees.
